Tech Post 8: Vectornator pen stuff

I made a really nice thing with vectornator. It’s a turtle keychain. I think it came out really good. The first thing I did was use a piece of paper to draw out a diagram. The next step was to take a picture of it, and put it in vectornator. I then used the pen tool, and traced around it. Lastly I imported it into gmail and emailed it to mr.Calvert.

Tech Post 7: Flashlight designing

In tech, we designed a flashlight. We first took a cheat sheet, to copy out of. We then then measured everything in boxes, and used a ruler to make lines on a paper. We also used a circle tray to make the curves of the flashlight. After, we drew the circuit for the flashlight. We drew a light, switch, and battery.  We then connected it all with wires. We made sure we made extra wire so that we could pull out the battery to change it. We also put invisible lines aka dashed lines for the things inside of the flashlight.

Tech Post 6: Switches game

In this class we played a game involving cards and the 3 switches we made. The rules are simple. When there is an obstacle one way, we have to press the switch to turn on that light. If there are 2 obstacles, we have to stop.

After I connected all of my switches to the breadboard, the timer started and people started laying out cards in front of me. I made about 2 or 3 mistakes in total, but I think I did a pretty good job. It was really fun!

Tech Post 5: Making Pendant frames

In this class we made the circle things that are supposed to be the frame for our pendants. We first took a 6 inch wire and then curled it on a circle wood thing to get the perfect size. We then used pliers to bend the two ends straight up. Next, we took pliers and bent one of the wires down, and then used looping pliers to krimp it and make a perfect loop. Then we snipped the excess off. Lastly we took pliers again and then bent the other wire to loop it around the bottom of the circle, to make it stay.

Tech Post 4: Pendent Ideating

In tech we found out that we were going to make bracelets out of metal. I thought we would just go right into making it and soldering, but instead Mr.Calvert handed out papers with 15 circles to help us brainstorm what we wanted on our pendant.

I filled out my paper and I made some pokeballs because I thought I was making it for my friend Jieting. Instead though, I found out my sisters birthday was coming up, so I also made some flower and heart designs for her.

Next time we will probably start to actually build it! I’m so excited to get my hands dirty and actually create something!

Tech Post 3: Atoms And The Universe

So far, this has been my favorite lesson of the course so far. We learned about things like how big we’d have to make atoms to see them with the human eye.

First we discussed about atoms. Mr.Calvert said that if we put atoms into a ball the size of a grapefruit, we’d have to enlarge it to the size of the earth to see them. Then, the atoms would be the size of a blueberry. However, we could not see the nucleus yet so in order to see that, we would have to make a blueberry sized atom the size of a professional football stadium. Then, and only then, could you see the nucleus, which would be the size of a marble. Then Mr.Calvert told us something mind blowing. He said that in between the electrons and the nucleus, there would be nothing. He said it couldn’t be air, because air is a molecule, so the electrons would just be clinging on to nothing.

Next Mr.Calvert told us about how big the universe was. He said that the universe is 200,000 light years in diameter, and its 1000 light years wide. If you consider this, Our solar system would probably just be less then a speck in the whole galaxy. Mr.Calvert also showed us a photo taken by a space telescope that showed a ton of swirling stars. He told us that those weren’t stars, they were galaxy’s!

At the end, I was just thinking how big, yet small the earth is. Compared to a atom, it was bigger then big. Compared to the Milky Way,  it was almost non-existent. I was just really interested by this lesson, and I loved it.

Tech Post 2: Breakout

A couple days ago, we did a fun game called Breakout. It was a strategy game, but it also had some things to familiarize ourselves with the safety rules.

If you don’t know what breakout is, its a game where you have to find clues to unlock the box. For us, there was also a bonus box. Both teams were also allowed 2 hints each.

When we first started out, everyone was looking for clues, I didn’t find any, but some other people on my team did. 3 of them, in fact. One of them was a path to safety clue, the other was some story about a person in the tech lab and showing what he did right or wrong, and I think the last one was something telling us to do or not do something.

I helped solve one of the clues and crack the first lock. I also helped a little to solve another, and for the third lock we got the combo right, it was just that we didn’t know which way the numbers went, so we got it wrong and had to ask for a hint. We solved all 3 locks before the other team even solved 2.

After that, we tried to get the bonus box. As we were trying to get it, the other team finished their locks and started on the bonus box as well. We all got pretty close, but in the end we ran out of time and we both lost.

Overall, Breakout was a very fun game and I hope to do more. Attached are the pictures of some of the box we had to crack, and the bonus box.

Tech post 1: Thoughts on The Future (and present)

So far, tech has been very pleasant. I learned about many things such as what is technology and atoms. We have also done a fun activity together called Breakout. Although the present has been quite smooth, I don’t know about the FUTURE! I think that in the future we will build many cool things, and I’m planing to 3D print something like a nyan turtle. Hopefully Mr.Calvert has all the colors of the rainbow cause I need that.

I’m sure that tech this year will be very productive and fun. I’m looking forward to this year!

Why turtles are the best things ever

Turtles, sweet, smooth, and dynamic. They do many things like sun themselves. They are also popular. They are on shirts, theyre tv shows about them, and there are books about them. These cool creatues have been around for millions of years. The first turtle lived called eunotosaurus africanus lived 260 million years ago.
