Genre Reflection

In 3M we read many different types of books. However, we have concentrated this fall on two specific genres.

mysterynonfiction2

Thinking about the two different genres, Mystery (fiction) and Non-Fiction, I want you to write a paragraph answering the following:

  • Which genre do you enjoy reading more?
  • Why? Include examples from your experiences.

Write your answer in complete sentences.

I like nonfiction because you can skip to different parts of the book. For example if I was reading a book called Mummies & Pyramids than there would be a bunch of chapters. I could skip to a chapter called unwrapping a mummy and it will be on the last page. Then When I want to read the princess mummy then I’ll just go back whenever I want. I also like nonfiction because they tell you true facts.
When you’re reading nonfiction you’ll see the title and say the tittle was Earth And Space than I’ll be like wow I want to learn about earth and space. So what i’m trying to say is that just by the title you can tell what it’s going to be about.
For now on I think that i’m going to read much much more nonfiction!!!!!

I like nonfiction because you don’t have to read it in order. For example, I read this book called Gorilla, Monkey and Ape. I could skip to a chapter called New World Monkeys even if it was not the first chapter. You can also learn a lot of things from nonfiction books. Nonfiction books are also true. Those are the reasons why I like nonfiction better.

I agree because nonfictoin it really doesn’t matter how you read it inless you read it upside down.

JR I agree because if you read a nonfiction book in order it will be really boring. – JA

I like nonfiction better because I like to learn a lot .I like to learn about sports facts and lots more. I am reading this book called Top 10 of Everything in Sports. I like it because I am a big sports fan and my favorite thing to learn is sports. In school I am reading about warriors I think it is very interesting because I also like to read about warriors. I also like reading about famous people because it is very interesting. I also like reading about animals because when I finish the book I am like that was crazy. I like reading about sad books because once in awhile it is fun to read sad books. That is why I like nonfiction books. better then mystery.`

I like mysteries better because you get to solve them.

  4. BZ December 22, 2016 / 1:48 pm

I think Mystery is better because it has a lot for surprises and twists and turns. It also has risks and adventures. For example when I read the talking T Rex I thought that that the theft was one of the suspects but it was actually the other one! But Nonfiction is not to exciting. u do is learn stuff and it’s so boring. But Mystery is more exciting. For example when I read Mystery I get so intense. Those are all the reasons I think Mystery is better.

    • ck December 22, 2016 / 2:06 pm

I like how you said twists and turns. You also had a good ending.

    • jr December 22, 2016 / 2:08 pm

I disagree because you can learn new things by reading nonfiction. I also think nonfiction is interesting.

I like reading mysteries more than nonfiction. I like reading mysteries because they are fiction and l do not like nonfiction. Mysteries are fun because you have to figure out who did the crime. For example in the big bad detective agency I figured out mama pig did the crime. That is why I like mysteries more.

    • GF December 22, 2016 / 2:09 pm

I agree because I do have fun chasing the clues and figuring it out. I recommend Museum Mysteries The Missing Space Suit its a great book and I figured out who did it before them.

We have studied two different genres, non-fiction and mysteries. Out of both of them I liked mysteries the most. Once I was so engaged in a book called, Museum Mysteries that I read for almost two hours. I just love all mystery books they are really good because you get to figure it out before the detective does and clues help you along the way. You really need to think about the suspects and which one of them would have the opportunity and the motive to do it. I really want to read more mysteries in the future!

    • sk December 22, 2016 / 2:13 pm

I like mysteries too, I love to figure out who did the crime because they are so much fun to read and I like that they give clues too.

I like mysteries better than nonfiction because when I read mysteries I like how they have a lot of action and I like the series A to Z mysteries a lot and I also like Cam Jansen. I think Mysteries have a lot of interesting parts. I like how authors put in a lot of action. I think authors want the readers to get excited when they read mysteries. My favorite part of mysteries are they have twists and I like twists a lot!!!! I recommend mysteries.

  8. sl December 22, 2016 / 1:49 pm

In our genre study we have to pick a genre Non fiction or mystery. My favorite is mystery because it is fun reading if something is missing. I also like how you never know when and why something happens. And from my experience I have been very sad sometimes I am happy and sometimes I am interested. And it is exciting how you find out how really was the crime. For example when I read absent author I was surprised that Wallace wallace was with them the whole time. I was pretty impressed that wallace was with them the whole time.I hope that I will read more mystery.

My favorite genre is mysteries because once I read a book that was a mystery and the book was so good I couldn’t stop reading it. I wanted to know who were the suspects and I wanted to find more clues. The book I was reading was Absent Author. I really like that book because Wallace Wallis was pretending to be kidnapped and she was pretending to be Mavis Green. I also knew that she was Wallace Wallis because she also lived in Main. W.W. and M.G. both like the color green and Mavis Greens last name is green. Reading mysteries are really fun!

    • sl December 22, 2016 / 2:10 pm

JA I really agree that mystery are exciting and I also enjoyed absent author because it was pretty fun finding those clues

    • LP December 22, 2016 / 2:11 pm

I love mysteries, but I would rather nonfiction because it tells you things about the world.

  11. AH December 22, 2016 / 1:51 pm

My favorite genre is nonfiction because you learn so much. And I love how you are always so engaged with the book. For example I read a book called Germs Make me Sick and I learned that one thousand germs can fit on the top of a pencil. Did you know that? And I learned so much more. And that’s why I love nonfiction books so much.[Because you learn so much.]

  12. CM December 22, 2016 / 1:51 pm

I like mysteries because you can’t stop reading. You want to find out who comitted the crime. Most of the time it is unexpected. You end up reading more then you have to. Some people like that. I know I do. My favorite kind of mystery is when you have to find a criminal instead of any old mystery. I get excited when I solve the mystery before the detective.

  13. at December 22, 2016 / 1:51 pm

So far this year we have been reading mysteries and nonfiction. My favorite genre is nonfiction. Nonfiction is my favorite genre because it can be like a graphic novel. I could have a lot of pictures. But you can learn a lot. It could also be a little cartoony. You could also learn about for example Derek Jeter’s childhood. It’s almost like a how to but, it’s teaching you not how to do something. It’s like a how to because it is teaching you. That’s why nonfiction is my favorite.

  14. lfr December 22, 2016 / 1:52 pm

I enjoy Reading mysteries because it is interesting because you don’t know who did the crime. For example in cam jansen the wedding cake mystery the wedding cake got lost, but cam still found the wedding cake. I like finding out the mystery before the detective. That is why I like mysteries.
