Chicken Sunday and Thank you Mr.Falker
Be kind in the world and you might get kindness in return. In both books Chicken Sunday and Thank you Mr.Falker characters in the story learn what happens when you are kind to others.
In the beginning of Chicken Sunday there are three children who live with their grandma. One day the children were in the wrong place at the wrong time and were accused of throwing eggs at his shop which they didn’t. They brought colorful eggs to Mr.Kodinsky to show that they were not the ones who throw eggs at his hat shop. This was a sign of kindness and in return Mr.Kodinsky invited them in for tea. He now understood that these were good kids and their relationship had changed. They were now kind to each other. In Thank you Mr.Falker when Trisha’s grandpa showed Trisha a great family tradition of dipping honey on the book. In return Trisha later in life even after her grandpa died held up the tradition and dipped honey on her book. This shows kindness and respect for her grandpa.
In the middle of both books, there were more signs of kindness shown by the characters in the books. One example of kindness in Chicken Sunday is, the children had the idea of bringing the colorful eggs to Mr.Kodinsky and in return Mr.Kodinsky was so happy that they brought the eggs to him he let them sell more of the eggs in his store to get more money to buy the hat they wanted. This would affect what happens later in the story. In Thank You Mr.Falker an example of kindness is, Trisha tried to read in front of the class but mumbled the words and the class laughed at her. In return Mr.Falker said “Are you all so perfect that you can look at another person and find fault with her”. That was the last time anyone laughed at her except Eric.
In the end of both books there will still more signs of kindness shown by the main and not main characters. One example of kindness in the end of the story in Chicken Sunday is, Mr.Kodinsky was so proud of the children as a sign of kindness when the children brought him the eggs and was proud for them of being brave and selling them in his store, in return when the kids went to go buy the hat Mr.Kodinsky already had the hat in a gift bag for them to take to their grandma. In the end of the book in Thank You Mr.Falker an example of kindness is, Mr.Falker allowed Trisha to have a special class at the end of the school days and play a reading game with her and teach her how to read. In return Mr.Falker got to have a fun time with Trisha and taught her how to read and Trisha had fun and was happy that she could now read better.
In both books, Thank You Mr. Falker and Chicken Sunday, the main character(s) had a problem that needed to be fixed. The problems were fixed through kindness and a helpful heart. This can happen in books as well as in life, so in life, be kind to others and kindness will come back to you.
