Technology #1

This year is my first year in SMS (Scarsdale Middle School). I am taking multiple different classes but one that I am very excited for is technology. Before I loved making rube goldbergs, engineering, and just making stuff in general. When I was told we were going to be doing soldering I just imagined how much fun I am going to have in this class.

My teacher Mr.Calvert is awesome. He is fun, exited and like us ready to learn. I have been in the technology room now twice and I am excited to be working with all the machines that are available to us to use. I can’t wait to start doing experiments and more. I know that this year is going to be an awesome year!

Capstone Presentation

For my capstone I studied the science of golf and yesterday on 6/19/18 we got to present our capstone project to out parents. Over this entire project I have gotten the experience to be able to have an interview, to find facts on my topic and even get to share my work with other people.

I thought this project was a great project for kids to learn to be able to speak out loud to an audience and get to show them the magnificent work that they put in to this project. I was very thankful that we did this because I got to learn more about my topic and the other things that I am now capable of doing. Over the 2 month period I had some successes and some failures. For example one of my successes was being able to get an interview with a golf pro a failure was maybe not knowing when a blog post needs to be done or when I was behind on knowing my script. When I noticed that I was behind in knowing my script I practiced every day until 11:00 but then I went to sleep and a boy named Arav could tell you all about how important it is to get some rest. In the end I learned about the physic concepts in golf, how weather and science effects golf and how technology is being used to study and test clubs and the balls to make golf an easier or just always changing and evolving..

Answering My Main Inquiry Question

My main inquiry question was “how does science effect golf and how does it benefit the golfer.” Over the amount of time that I had to find the answer to this question I came out with a exceptional answer. Science effects golf by how technology is used to make the golf course and different club designs. Science also effects golf in a way of how the scientists are using science to learn more about how different weathers effect the course and how they study different science concepts such as lift, drag and much more. Science also is used to study the swig so the pro’s can benefit of of learning about their mistake.

Graphic Novel Refelxion

Over the month our class spent on reading and writing graphic novels I learned that I had become a different kind of writer and reader. I learned about myself as a writer realizing I had gotten into more details in my story telling and letting the reader to understand what is going on in this story.

I learned about myself as a reader realizing I had been able to focus more on the book and not wander off and I was able to understand and use my imagination as I go through reading the panels. In the end I became a better reader and writer from this graphic novel experience.

Capstone Interview 2

On 5/24/18 I had my second interview for my capstone project. I interview the Fairveiw Counry Club course manager whose name is Jim. I asked him about different ways the course is taken care of to make the levels of difficulty change. I learned multiple new facts from him and can’t wait to have my presentation in about 3 weeks. Here is one short clip of my interview with Jim.

Capstone Interview 2

Today on 5/24/18 I interviewed Fairview Country Club course manager named Jim. He is the one whomoves the grass measures the amount of water thats going to go into the grass he also chose’s where the hole location will be. Jim also takes into acknowledgment of how the grass grows how much should he cut the grass should he make the ball roll further of shorter and so much more. I learned from him about water conservation how the rain affect different grasses, water hazards and sand traps. Jim taught me a lot about how to go out onto the course and not just try to hit a ball far and straight but to plan for what lies ahead and not to worry about getting par or getting a bad score. Now when I go out on the course I have better rounds because I can plan ahead.

Peruvian Resturaunt

On Tuesday 4/15/18 our class and the other fifth grade classes. We went to a local peruvian resturaunt in westchester where we spoke spanish and learned different vocabulary to comunacate with waiters. We tried a few dishes from the menu such as pollo satado, lomo saltado, pescado and lomo de carne. The drink that we all got to try was called chicha morada. It is a non achaholic drink that is made from corn, cinnamon and more we had a fun time at the resturaunt and it was an amazing experience.

Capstone Interview

For my capstone I interviewed Kevin Ausserlechner, Fairview Country Club Golf Pro. We talked about different ways that science has an effect on golf and different ways science is used and technology is used to make golf an easier game to play. I got the chance to learn new things I didn’t know before while talking with Kevin. I took notes on what he was saying and what he was showing me. Kevin when he was a kid also did a project sort of like this. He made a video of him playing a hole and then kneeling down into the camera to tell what was going on. Now that we have great technology the final product looks a bit more professional. My site visit was Fairview Country Club, Greenwich Connecticut, founded 1904. For only the first three weeks of this project it has been an awesome experience and should be a great journey of learning all about the science of golf. Here is one part of the interview that I had on 5/8/18.
