Box Project Update #1

Hi guys, and welcome back to my third technology blog post of this year! I’m now ending my fourth week of technology, and I have six weeks left to go! Like I said on my last post, I have finished my cardboard prototype box. Here is a photo of it:

This cardboard model helped me by giving me me a heads up of what my wooden box will look like and what the size and measurements of the box will be like. After I completed this, I moved on to starting my actual box. I completed a survey on my measurements and had a conference with my teacher about those measurements. Then, I got my wood and started measuring it. I used a tool called a try-square, which is used to make sure that your measurements are parallel, and I drew lines on the wood using this try-square in order to create my measurements. I faced some challenges while measuring my wood though. For example, some of the lines that I drew on my wood were not straight, so I had to erase them and start over. Also, it was challenging to create the correct measurements because of the thickness of the wood. I persisted through these challenges though, and I moved on to cutting my wood with a band saw, which I’m still doing currently! I also faced some challenges in cutting the wood so far. For example, it is tough to set up my wood for cutting, like using the clamp and pushing the wood all the way to the back of the saw, but when I figured out how to do these 2 things correctly, it much of a problem anymore Also, it is tough to cut with the band saw, but just like the other challenge, once you get into a rhythm, it isn’t much of a problem. I also cut the bottom piece of wood a bit too small. Here is a picture of that piece of wood, my other pieces of wood, and my new and unfinished bottom piece of wood to replace my bottom piece of wood that is too small:

In my next post, I will talk about my progress since this post! Until then, see you later! Bye!
