Lost & Found

11/29/18

Hi SUPER PENGUINS!

Point of View Statement:  All students need a way to efficiently find their item in the lost and found in a way that makes them happy and less stressed because it is less of a hassle

Our Solution Ideas:

  1. A pinwheel with shelves that never goes upside down that spin on an axis would spin similar to a ferris wheel. (shelves do not go upside down)

  1. Cubies are attached to a large wheel that can spin (can go upside down)

Questions:

Which do you think is more important: easy visibility or stuff not falling?

Do you think a wheel would be helpful, or would it be a distraction?

How do you feel about the fact that the items will spin? Why?

Do these solutions address your primary concerns regarding the lost and found?

Is there anything you would like to change about these ideas?

We hope that you like our ideas!

Best,

  1. I think that having a ferris wheel thingy would be good for storing trinkets rather than cloth attire. sweaters are heavy and are not easy to spin on a wheel. Also, different things have different weights, so having a “lock” feature ( some sort of wood stick ) would probably be essential.

    • Since trinkets are small objects and there were not a lot present at the lost and found, we don’t think that designating a large space, such as a wheel, would be the best use of the space. What are your opinions on making a smaller version of this prototype fro trinkets, or perhaps making an immobile box?

  2. Having a magnetic chalkboard would not be ideal. I hope you are aware of the fact that the students can write anything that they desire on this board, such as insults, secrets, and private opinions. It would probably cause the problem of “chalk dust “. Some younger kids think that it is okay to wipe the board with their hands ( I should know) and believe me when I say this, but they still have the habit of putting their hands inside their mouths when something unknown is on them. Chalk dust would also raise the problems of allergies. some kids are allergic to chalk dust (believe me) and sneeze their heads off when they encounter it. ( Just saying ) anyway, the rest of your prototype fits everything we discussed on our last appointment. Thank You!

    • We hear your concerns about inappropriate comments on the chalkboard. In our prototype, the goal of the chalkboard was to attract attention to the lost and found and encourage students to visit. Do you have a different idea that would serve the same purpose we intended?

    • I think that is a very good idea. How many trinkets are usually in the lost and found at one time? Would a section labeled coats with hooks be more helpful given the amount that are in the lost and found. How do you think we can make the lost and found more invisible? Lights? Neon Colors? Big lost and found sign? Organizing the items lost by color?

  3. easy visibility because sometime the front looks the same but back is not same.Wheel is a distraction for little kid they keep spinning and its helpful to see the back, the front and the sides. The primary concerns is that it’s very messy like for example all the jackets are in one space.I don’t have any ideas.

    • Thanks for the input! It would also be helpful if you could ask the woman who organizes the lost and found and find out what she thinks would be most helpful as she is the person who spends the most time there and therefore would know what needs to be improved. You might have to ask your teacher how to get in touch with her. Let us know what you find out.

    • Hi Jay!
Thank you for your input, we were thinking of having magnetic hooks for jackets so that you can place them and take them off easily. Do you like this idea, would it be helpful on showing everything off? Do you like the idea of having the chalkboard, do you think it could work for outlining and labeling different sections? It would also be very helpful if you could measure the height of the lost and found area. Thank you!

  4. I’m not sure I follow you on the idea of “shelves”. Would the items fall out of the sides? How do you plan on taking your belongings out of the shelves? Would the they be sealed? These were some of the questions I had in mind while watching your video.

  5. Hi Catherine,

Thanks for the feedback! We were thinking of making a cupcake display like structure, like the one in Sabrina’s drawing, for holding trinkets. Would you be able to measure the height of the wall, the width of the wall, and the length from the wall to the edge of the bottom step?

    Thanks!
