Capstone Post (Final Product) #6

I am now done with my presentation and my script. We first needed to finish our script to do our presentation, to know if you were done you would write your name the whiteboard, then Mrs.Robert would call you up to revise your script and change it. Mrs.Robert mostly just checked my grammar and punctuation but sometimes she would add more slides and split up my past slides. Now I feel like my script is more organized.

Capstone Post (Answering my Main Inquiry Question) #5

We answered our main inquiry question, how? well we first answered all our sub questions, then we used the answers to make our answer. So our  answers are a combination of all our 5 sub-questions

My answer summarized is,  First I said we need to know what life is, then what life is made of then what how we look for what is needed, then if we found what is needed, and finally what would happen if we found ET? I made my answer like this because I listed my sub-questions in order. So the summary I listed are my sub-questions. Because that is what my answer is about. Then I color coded my answer so for example, green is my sub-question What is life, then blue is my question, what is needed for life. So this is how I answered my main inquiry question and what my answer is about.

Capstone Post (Site Visit) #4

On Sunday (5/25/19) I had my site visit. I went to the science museum in queens. The exhibit I went to was focusing on the question, is there life on other planets? It showed different weird environments microbes live in, for example, it said that microbes were found living in acidic pools of water. This is crazy because it changes what scientists look for. So the site visit was really surprising. I took lots and lots of pictures of the writing and also the pictures. I went with my Dad, Mom, and my younger brother. The exhibit was pretty short but was full with new information.  This information changed my sub question how do scientists look for life?

From this site visit i got new information and lots and lots of pictures to put in my TED talk. So this site visit was really helpful to my research. Now I am done with most of my research because of the site visit.

Capstone Post (Interview) #3

On 5/23/19 I got the results to my interview back. If you are wondering what do you mean by getting results back? I did my interview over email because the person I was interviewing, Jill Tarter who is a retired engineer and astronomer for the SETI program was traveling a lot so we did it over gmail.

First we asked if she could answer my questions for the interview, and she said yes. Then I sent the questions, but I had to wait a few days but I understood why because she was busy. Then I sent a thank you to her after. The answers were about a paragraph long each which was very helpful. Also I changed my last sub question to what would happen if we found extraterrestrial life?  and it mostly relied on the interview but I still got some information. My last sub-question mostly relied on the interview because I need someone’s opinion. Also she told me the tools she used and what the tools did. So this interview was really really helpful because without it I wouldn’t be able to put much for my last question.

Capstone Post (Choosing Inquiry Questions and Sub Questions) #2

So far we have chosen our topics, mine is life on other planets. I met with my teacher Mrs.Robert and we came up with a question based on my topic. My question is how do scientists look for life on other planets? But this took a lot of  work to find a good researchable inquiry question.  Also we came up with sub-questions that we would answer smaller topics while we are presenting. For example your first sub-question would be what is ____ and you would talk about that then you would talk about another.

Capstone Post (Choosing Topic) #1

We just started a new project, capstone! We are chose our top 2 topics, mine are space as number one and robotics as number 2.  We made a chart with our whole class where it shows everyone’s topic 1 and topic 2. I think I chose topics that really interest me but to choose these topics we did an inquiry packet with questions like what interests you or what are you and expert on and more, so you can choose a topic that you really like. I am thinking of doing life outside of Earth for my project. Continue reading Capstone Post (Choosing Topic) #1
