Final Post

I just wanted to say that this is not what I expected this year to turn out like at all. Since it was the beginning of a new decade I thought everything would be fine but turns out it wasn’t. I just wish we could’ve gone back to school for only one day to say goodbye for the year since right now it just doesn’t feel right to just end the year like this. I really hope this year gets better.

I personally think I use materials 2 and 5 because 2 has the contents of milk jugs, water bottles and other plastics that are made for one time use and daily needs and are very soft plastics. I also use material 5 since it include things like plastic utensils, food containers and all things that are also one time use and can easily be disposed of. They both are made with soft plastics that can be disfigured or bent very easily. These items could be reused but only a select few and it still wouldn’t be very good for reusability since they are all made with soft plastics. I believe that they use soft plastics instead of hard plastics for these materials since they are one time use and need to be thrown out easily.

I think that other land owners might use their land for farms since they can cut down all their trees and after they are gone, you can use the land for farming since it would just be a big plain. I would personally use it for building houses, or developing a town their with maybe all the wood I’ve gathered from the forest since I would be left with open land. I think that it would be very dangerous to work in the lumber industry before, since you would have to manually cut down the trees which is first of all a lot of work, and it is also very dangerous since the lumberjacks could be killed by the trees falling on top of them. They would also probably have to use either axes, or chainsaws. I would personally invent something that wouldn’t require any manual labor, and wouldn’t be dangerous for people. I think that the Oregon forest law is perfect and should never be repealed since protecting the environment is very important.

I personally think that this was a coincidence and just down to personalities. I’m just guessing that more boys in this class are less shy and willing to answer more in front of people and the girls in this class are maybe more shy and just want to communicate through email instead of in class. This could also not be the case, and as class goes on, maybe more girls will speak up, and more boys will email.

I believe that “building something” means that you are creating a new, physical structure from either a thought or someone telling you to. When building something you take ideas and put them into physical form and make it available to touch, and access throughout reality, and not just your mind. Buildings, or structures can look like anything from a home made table, to a skyscraper, which really goes to show you how big the variety is.

Yes I have built plenty of things before such as a fooseball table, or a flashight which I built in tech last year. When I was building the flashlight I was feeling very excited because I was building something from act ratchet and using so many different materials from which on their own, can’t really do anything, but when put together can make something amazing. When I finished building it, I got this sense of accomplishment that I never really felt before from anything ive done.I didnt work with anyone on this project, and I still have the flashlight to this day but sadly it doesn’t really work anymore since the batteries ran out, and I screwed the top on extremely tight so it would be almost impossible to break it off.

Tests Confirm source of Coronavirus outbreak In China.

Experts from China’s Center For disease Control believe that the virus started in Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market in which is located in the heart of Wuhan. The market sold live animals including wolf pups, foxes, rats, and peacocks. These animals were apparently the source of the outbreak after being slaughtered and delivered  freshly to your door. The meat and animal section of the market was said to be separate from the vegetable and produce section of the market. The experts also believe that the virus is highly relevant to the trading of wild animals. Schools will be closed until further notice, and lunar new year has been extended due to the outbreak.

i personally believe that in order to fix this outbreak or really, how it came to is a matter of the market. This market in Wuhan was selling live and freshly slaughtered animals outside, in winter while it’s cold outside. Winter is the season where anything is prone to bacterial infections or diseases at its highest. This means that if the people who ran the market were being a little more conscious of their surroundings, and health conditions of the animals they were selling, there never would’ve been and outbreak in the first place. I believe that the market should still be able to run after the virus is over but only at warmer times of year where disease is less common to get, and if they can do inspections on the health of their animals and meat before selling it to people for money.

Flashlight Process part 2

So when we cut our pipes out, we had to make sure that they were measured exactly to scale on our diagrams. After we cut our pipes, we would attach them to other pipes to create our outer flashlight. After, we created this, it was time to make our circuits to put inside of our outer layer. First we had to cut 3 wires to scale like our diagram. Next we needed to get an led light, a battery, and a battery holder. After all this we had to solder our pieces together and put them inside our flashlight’s exoskeleton. Finally we were finished with our flahslights.

Flashlight: Process

Over the course of 2 weeks, we have been working on designing , and engineering our very own flashlights. We started off by talking about the accident that happened in thailand last summer, where a soccer team got trapped in a cave with no light, and which got flooded by monsoon season. Our task was to create a flashlight that we could use to save the kids who were trapped in the cave. The flashlight had to fit in  a 7 3/4  by 6 1/4 box though. We started by creating our diagrams. This is where we would design the exact picture for our flashlight. If it was wrong, then we had to restart. After we created out diagrams, we would have to get them approved by Mr Calvert, and then we could cut out our pipes.

Switches

In technology over the past week, we have been making our own switches, and engineering them too. We had to make 3 switches in total, and engineered them too. My first switch that i made was a completely new idea, but it was still just a prototype. It was a sling switch that had a piece of cardboard attached to a piece of rubber. You would pull it, and it would attach to a piece of aluminium  foil. My second switch was a very simple push switch that had a popsicle stick with foil on it, and you would just push it down onto another piece of foil which would activate the light. My third and final switch was a knob switch which means that you would turn it onto a piece of foil with foil on the knob, and it would activate the light. Overall i really enjoyed this activity, and would love to do it again in the future

Self Driving Cars

Yesterday we were talking about self driving cars, and what the  benefits of them being legalized would be. They would take away most accidents, and would probably completely get rid of human error in driving. They would also help blind people in driving, without having someone else always drive for them. Unfortunately, a problem that might arise when it comes to self driving cars, there might be a defect in the programming, which could cause a very fatal accident. We also watched a video on self driving cars, and how one of them helped a blind man throughout his day. After that, we saw a video on the very first self driving car race, in 2004, which was administered by DARPA. They gave people the opportunity to build their own self driving car, and race it in a race, to see whoever had engineered the best one.
