My Maglev Train reflection

In this post I will explain how my group struggled to create my train to levitate, my final working levitating track, and what I learned from the process of creating a maglev train with a group.

When we first got our materials for the maglev train, our original plan was to put all the magnets in line one next to the others in line but the problem with that was that the sides of the magnets are also magnetic, causing the magnetic poles (north and north)  to repel against each other move around when they are all facing the same way as the magnets on the bottom of the car to levitate.

Then an idea shot to my head. If we only used 2 magnets on the sides they could face the same way because the magnetic forces are not strong enough to push away each other and it will be able to hold the piece of styrofoam. This worked successfully because not only were  the long magnets able to stay in place, but the magnetic forces were still strong enough to hold the piece of styrofoam in the air with a cup and marbles on it.

A couple of  things that I have learned through the engineer design process is to work with a group and let everybody share their ideas, how magnets work and how they attract to each other and levitate against each other, and how magnetic fields work, And lastly I learned other uses for magnets then just magnet tiles and magnets that go on cars and refrigerator. Doctors also use magnets to take a look inside a persons body without having to do any surgery!

I`m Grateful for …

My family helps me be happy and they give with everything I need to live. I`m grateful for my family because they let me have delicious food that I love, they make sure that I`m happy, and they help me. The first reason that I’m grateful for my family is because that they get me food that I love. For example every 2 or 3 weeks my family takes me to the grocery store and gets all the food we need for a month. They let me pick out things like pancakes, fruit, taco shells, cheese, meat, waffles, and my favorite bread. The second reason I am grateful for my family is that they make me happy every day. For example when I`m sick they stay home and drive me to the doctor, and stay home and not go to work for however long I don`t go to school. My third reason why I’m grateful for my family is because they help me. For example, when I am reading and can’t figure out what a word means and if they don`t know, they’ll look it up on their phones and tell me. Or they will sit with me at my desk in my room or downstairs in the kitchen at the desk there and helps me with my test and homework assessments. My fourth reason why I’m grateful for my parents is because they keep me company and answer all of my questions. For example, last night I was having a football catch with my dad and asking him questions about how you become left handed and right handed when you’re born. I was also asking about left handed and right handed tennis players. My fifth reason why I’m thankful for my parents is that they take me on road trips and plane trips everywhere. For example 2 or 3 years ago they took me and my sister on a on a 21 hour drive to Florida and surprised us  by going to Disneyland. We also fly to Seattle and Mexico a lot.  To conclude, my family feeds me, helps me with so much, and make sure that I stay happy. I am very thankful for them.

  The end

Halloween

Today was the day the day of Halloween. I raced to my classroom, in my basketball player costume, like a cheetah. As I walked into my classroom I heard over the announcements:

“The Halloween parade will begin at 9:15am,” I was putting my morning work in the tray when the announcements went on again:

“All classes please start to line up,” As we approached the front were the Halloween parade there were hundreds of people outside with their cameras out. I only had taken a few steps when my grandparents showed up so I smiled the as the camera flashed as bright as the sun. Next I saw my mom and she took about 10 pictures.

“Smile for the camera” she yelled over all the people at the parade. Finally after all of the pictures and cameras we had a assembly  where all the the classes k-5 come and sing songs about Halloween and some of the 5th graders were playing instruments.

After we came back from the assembly we listen and wrote a Halloween story.  At the end of the day another class came into our room to watch Halloween videos.

Word Study Cutouts

This year every week we cut out a word sort . We get words that we sort in a category like the word skate where we drop the e and add ing so skating goes in the e-drop category, or the word yell goes in (vcc) because yell has -ell. Then we look at our spelling menu and find an activity, like for example, write each of your 23 words in your neatest handwriting 3x. Another activity that helps us learn our words and patterns is writing 10 words with a line in the vowels place that’s called missing vowels, and then filling in the vowels. At the end of each week we get a quiz sheet and go in a quiet place in the room, we write down categories and partners read each other’s words . After if we want extra credit we write 3 sentences and each of them has to have 1 or more spelling words in each sentence like I was waving my hand to signal the taxi   Without a spelling mistake.
