“The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” #2

So far in the book ā€œThe Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobeā€, by C.S Lewis, Edmund has joined the White Witch on her journey to escape. She has turned a group of innocent animals to stone and Edmund suddenly has a feeling of regret that he ever supported the White Witch. Since this regret is starting to take over his brain, he tries to pretend this is a dream. I think Aslan has the power. Aslan is a great lion who fights evil and is supposed to meet all four siblings and the beavers at the ā€œStone Tableā€™ā€.

One reason why Aslan is powerful is that he is described as powerful by the inhabitants of Narnia. The beavers describe him as unsafe yet good. This shows that Aslan is unsafe but he has to be unsafe in order to fight the evil, otherwise the evil would win over the good.

Another reason why Aslan has the power is because the witch is scared of him. Mr. Beaver says that if the witch can stand up and look him in the eye, heā€™d be surprised she can do that. Meanwhile, the witch is escaping on her sled with Edmund to somewhere. I think itā€™s because of Aslan. It is clear that Aslan makes everyone scared, even the good people, but the good people are scared in a way that Aslan is scary, but heā€™s going to save them, so there is not to fear unless they are evil. The evil people, on the other hand, wonā€™t really end up in a good place if they run into himā€¦

These reasons that Aslan is described as powerful by everyone and that the witch is scared of him, are to support the claim that Aslan has power. Additionally, I hope the reader knows that people on the good side of a battle must use fearlessness and bravery to fight the evil.

“Readers Response – ā€œThe Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobeā€

So far in the book ā€œThe Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobeā€, all four of the siblings have found out that the country called Narnia is not just a make believe story of Lucyā€™s, it is real. All four siblings walked into the wardrobe and found Narnia. Lucy made a friend there called Mr.Tumnus before this. However, when they went there, his house was destroyed by the White Witch, an evil woman who calls herself ā€œThe Queen of Narniaā€. I think that Narnia is dangerous to everyone because of the White Witchā€™s actions.

The White Witch forced Mr.Tumnus to be on her side. She told him that if any little girl came to his house, he has to kidnap her. Mr.Tumnus didnā€™t want to do this. This shows that the White Witch is very forceful and threatening. She has taken over the whole of Narnia and even though a lot of creatures are on her side, the whole of Narnia is in a lot of danger because of her abilities and the fact that she is taking advantage of those powers and abilities.

When the White Witch found out that Mr.Tumnus didnā€™t kidnap Lucy, she destroyed his house. I think that she is not only forceful but when she threatens, she means it, not just that she is thinking about doing it. I MEAN, WHAT IS WRONG WITH HER? This means that the White Witch will do anything to make people feel bad about themselves and she sure likes doing it. This puts Lucy, Edmund, Peter and Susan in great danger if they run into herā€¦

All of these reasons are to state that the whole of Narnia is in great danger all because of the White Witch because she forced Mr.Tumnus to do something he didnā€™t want to o and when she found out that he didnā€™t do it, she destroyed his home and took him to her castle (known as very scary so Mr.Tumnus will probably not survive unless Lucy and the others save him)…

Social Issues

One of the most common social issues is bullying. One of the social issues that matters to me most is bullying from popular groups. In a grade or school, some people tend to want to become the boss of the place. That is when they get the idea that they should start a group of popular kids (themselves and their friends most of the time). I think that the worst type of bullying comes from the popular group because they are considered as the people who own the school or grade and if people insult them or do something they don’t like, it will backfire badly.

What are my thoughts on this issue? I hate it. I just hate it.Ā  Imagine you are at school and you know that the popular group in your grade doesn’t like you for no reason, just that you’re there. Then, imagine you get picked on because you go to that school and they can’t accept that you are allowed to go to that school, make friends at that school, have fun at that school. I find it sad that people just can’t accept that in life, even though you may not like it, some things or people are going to be with you and you just need to learn to live with it or try to think on the bright side. I know that I would never want to have that social issue to haunt me.

This issue is a problem today. I know this because popular groups form in lots of schools. If you think about it, a lot of schools have categories that people put each other in – nerds, artsy people and even just plain old weird people! – but in my opinion, the popular kids affect people the most. This can be in a good way or a bad way (mostly in a bad way). Often, some of my friends from outside of school say things about how the popular group in their school affects people or how they just have a popular group in their school. I’ve learned that if popular people or even people outside of popular groups bully you, always make sure you know not to make the mistake of joining them.

Book Clubs: “Catch You Later, Traitor” Long and strong

I think that by what has happened so far, Pete is confused about what all of these clues are leading to. One example is on page eight, where Pete does not know what just happened when he got a mysterious phone call. This is one of the clues. Another example is on page four,Ā when Pete is confused about why Kat’s mother did not say hello to him, just hauled away as if Pete had had the chicken pox. This is also one of the clues. These examples show that I think that by what has happened so far, Pete is confused about what all these clues are leading to.

“Stargirl” Short Response By: Jerry Spinelli

Stargirl, in “Stargirl”, by Jerry Spinelli has struggles but they are not exactly HERĀ struggles. They are more of what I would struggle with. For example, when Stargirl went to school at the beginning of the year, everyone stared at her. She did not care the way I would. In fact, she acted like nobody was staring at her. She just moved on with life. An example from the text is that at lunch, everyone stared at her because she was singing and dancing and twirling along the cafeteria with a ukelele. These examples show that Stargirl has struggles but they are not exactly HER struggles.

Independant Reading Jot: “Vanished” By: Sheela Chari

I think that Amanda does not mind her own business. One example from chapter 19 of the book is “‘Is it true?’ Amanda said to Lynne. ‘Did you take Neela’s veena?'”. This example shows that Amanda was squeezing her way into Lynne’s business and asking her too many questions about what happened with the veena. Another detail from the text is “‘Because you’re a thief?’ Amanda asked”. This shows that Amanda gets into everyone’s personal business. In this part of the chapter, Amanda was bombarding Lynne with questions about what happened to Neela’s veena and how she got involved with the whole situation. These reasons show that Amanda does not mind her own business.

So far, Jesse has had a very hard life. Since his family can’t afford much, he has really annoying sisters, and nobody cares about him, that makes it difficult to have fun with his family.

One example for this claim is that Jesse’s family cannot afford much. That means a lot of hard work needs to be done around the place. Jesse’s dad has to drive to Washington and back every day, his mom has to take care of five children, and the children don’t have that many privileges and they have to do a lot of chores.

Another example for this claim is that Jesse has really annoying sisters. At the beginning of the book, Jesse goes out to run and when he comes back, the girls say he smells and tell Momma to tell Jesse to wash.

The final reason for this claim is that nobody cares about Jesse. All his sisters leave all the work to him and go out shopping while he has to do all the hard work. Even his mother does not care about Jesse. In the book so far, all his mother does is tell him to do chores, chores, chores. And she yells at him if he is reluctant. The book says “It made Jess ache inside to watch his dad grab the little ones to his shoulder, or lean down and hug them. it seemed to him that he had been thought too big for that since the day he was born.”

All these reasons lead to the big idea/theme in this book, so far, which is that Jesse lives a hard life.
