Wuhan – Coronavirus – Possible Causes

Recently there has been a Coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, China. Wuhan is the capital of Hubei Province. In 2002 there was a virus similar to this one called the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, SARS for short. This disease killed 800 people. In addition, humans got this virus from Palm Civets and bats. Furthermore, on January 23rd the Wuhan Institute of Virology tested someone who currently has the Coronavirus. They found a 96% genetic match with a bat Coronavirus. Peter Daszak, president of EcoHealth Alliance, said “Probably bats are the origin from looking at the virus itself, and it got from bats into people in the wildlife market,” he said. “This is absolutely déjà vu all over again from SARS.” Therefore, the current Coronavirus is very likely to be like the SARS disease and it will have similar effects.

Currently, the Coronavirus that started in Wuhan has infected 2,700 people and killed at least 80 people. Since this virus spreads so quickly, no one can come in or come out of Wuhan. This shows that the Chinese government is trying to keep this disease contained. They believe that the wild meat came from the Wuhan Huanan Seafood Wholesale market. This market is known for selling a big range of different meats. People are advised to avoid eating wild meat during the outbreak. In conclusion, the people of Wuhan and China are working really hard to solve this virus and they are learning more about it every day.
