“As for us, we’re quite fortunate. Luckier than millions of people. It’s quiet and safe here, and we’re using our money to buy food.” Yours Anne January 13.1943

This quote is significant because it shows that Anne knows she is very lucky she is able to hide herself from the outside world. Anne knew many people were out there being taken away every second. Even though she might think her current condition is not the best, she knows that she is very fortunate to still even be alive. This quote really stood out to me because it shows that Anne is very mature for her age because most kids her age would probably bummed they have to stay on top of a tiny office building with no contact to the outside world. Anne shows her maturity for her age when she shows the reader that she is completely aware of her surroundings and what is happening to the world.

Another quote that really stood out to me was “All we can do is wait, as calmly as possible, for it to end. Jews and Christians alike are waiting, the whole world is waiting, and many are waiting for death”. Yours Anne. January 13th 1943

This quote was significant to me because it shows the readers that Anne knows the danger of her current condition. She wasn’t going to just pretend everything was fine even though it clearly wasn’t. Anne is aware of her probability to die but this doesn’t stop Anne from hoping and believing. This quote stood out to me because many people that were aware of their current situation and dangers were just hoping that death would find them. This was not the situation for Anne. She perspired and stayed optimistic.

Diary of Anne Frank: Theme

In the diary of Anne Fran, the main character Anne, her family, and another family all hide above an office building. One theme that has been brought up to my attention is the sacrifice of one person for another. After a while, Anne and her family decide that they want to rescue another person and let them hide with them. This is the act of hiding people at the risk of your own life and giving of your food, living space, and friendship to spare the lives of people around you. “We always thought there was enough room and food for one more person…”. This illustrates that in order to welcome this man into their hiding place they must sacrifice another human that is not hiding with them.

Another theme I observed in the Diary Of Anne Frank is growing up. Most of the story is about Anne and her experience growing up Jewish during World War 2. Even during the times of her crucial circumstances, she still grapples with problems that many normal teenagers deal with now. Throughout the book Annes mind continues to shift toward a more mature mindset. As Anne starts to mature both mentally and physically she starts to recognize this shift in her mindset. For example she makes a edit in her diary embarrassed by her younger self, “I wouldn’t be able to write that kind of thing anymore,”. Not only does Anne mature throughout the book, but she also starts to dive into deeper meanings of her life. She begins to develop questions like: does she feel more Jewish or German? What sort of God does she believe in? What kind of life does she want to live? This is how Anne starts to mature from a young girl into a curious young women.

Pick a quote

In my book, the diary of Anne Frank, Anne Frank is the protagonist. She is the leading character in this book and we see the life in her hands. She expresses her feelings and attitudes towards the holocaust throughout the whole book. Anne finds herself stuck on top of an office building with her family and another family. Anne knows that she is probably going to be hiding for a while, so instead of getting into big arguments when someone is being annoying, she finds herself expressing her thoughts in her diary. She explains how she feels that people perceive her always doing something wrong and that she can never do something completely right. She is the youngest there so she is kind of expected to be more mature than she really should be. In her dairy Anne says, ”Everyone thinks I’m showing off when I talk, ridiculous when I’m silent, insolent when I answer, cunning when I have a good idea, lazy when I’m tired, selfish when I eat one bite more than I should, stupid, cowardly, calculating, etc. All day long I hear nothing but what an exasperating child I am, and although I laugh it off and pretend not to mind, I do mind. I wish I could ask God to give me another personality, one that doesn’t antagonize everyone.” This quote explains that everyone is hard on her and that no one really views Annes smarts. She has learned it is probably better to write her thoughts in her Journal, rather than say her thoughts out loud and receive hatred.

Anne Frank: The Diary of A Young Girl

The book that I am reading for my independent book is called Anne Frank: The Diary of A Young Girl. It is about a young girl who is forced into hiding for two years during World War 2. I will be discussing how this book connects to our current personal life.

Anne Frank was 13 when she went into hiding. She hide above an office building with her family, another family, and not much else. Everyday she had to live with the fact that if someone found them, they would all be dead. She couldn’t make much noise just in case someone heard her. She didn’t have baths so she had to wash herself in a washtub. She didn’t have any electronics to use or distract herself. She had other things to worry about.

As you guys might know, two or three weeks ago, we were all put in quarantine due to Coronavirus. I’m not going to speak for anyone else, but it has been kind of rough on me and my family. This is the first time we have not been able to actually leave our house for multiple weeks.

However, we have the luxury to watch the news to keep us updated, sit in our backyard, communicate with our friends and family, etc. I can’t Imagine how it would feel if I had to be hiding for my life, not even knowing if we are going to run out of food or when we will be able to stop hiding. Well, Anne Frank had to sit in hiding for two years without complaining about not being able to get their nails done or how bored she is.

“Yesterday I had a horrible fright. At eight o’ clock the doorbell suddenly rang. All I could think of was that someone was coming to get us, you know who I mean”. – Anne Frank. This quote made me switch my whole mindset. I am lucky to be able to have the resources I have during these times. I am not worried that someone will come to my house in the middle of the night and harm me and my family.

It is important we stay home and do all we can to prevent ourselves from getting Coronavirus. But, we should also keep in mind that we are lucky to have all of the things we have, especially now
