Welcome to 5th Grade!

My 5th grade year has begun! I am very exited to take the trip to phillidelfia. I am also exited for our rocketry unit to be over. So I woun’t have to be out in the cold watching rockets launch. I am definitly looking foward to doing our mystery reading unit because I love finding clues and predicting what is going to happen. One last thing I love about fifth grade is we are the oldest in the school and get 2nd grade buddy’s. Fifth grade is so fun!

My goals for 5th grade are that I will become a faster and better reader so I can read more books. Hopefully fifth grade will be an amazing year!

Ed Camp Talks Day: 2

Hi! Welcome back to my blog. I loved the Ed camp talk’s I heard today! They were both very educational and fun. The first talk I listened to was Jeanie Rosenthal. She talked about being an entrepreneur. I found this talk very interesting and fun. The next and final talk I listened to was by PJ’s grandfather. (PJ is a kid in my grade) He talked about climate change. I liked this talk because he helped us understand how we could improve our environment.

Ed Camp Talks Day: 1

Hi! Welcome back to my blog. The presentations were amazing! I saw Julie and Lori’s presentations. They both talked about there job’s, like how they do it, and why they like it. Julie helped me learn exactly what a prosecutor  does, by tell us who the people in a trial were and how they worked together. Also I learned the difference between prison and jail. Prison is for people who are isolated for 1 year or less. Gail is for people who are isolated for any amount of time more than 1 year. In Lori’s presentation I learned about how you become to be a doctor and more about braking human bones. For example there are 4 different ways to brake a bone. Which consist of but are not limited to, shattering the bone in many pieces, splitting it diagonally, splitting it vertically, and splitting it horizontally. Finally the last thing I learned from Lori’s presentation was I do not want to be a doctor! All in all this was a very fun and educational experience.

The Squishy Thief

Annie loved squishies.  She brought them to school, and she squished them all day. Annie had almost all of them, but one she didn’t have was the cake slice. Annie wanted it bad and her sister taylor had it. Annie wanted to take it, she found the perfect time and went into Taylor’s room and snacked it from the bin. Bonk bonk bonk. Oh no she’s going to catch me what will I do?  Annie ran into Taylor’s bathroom. Taylor walked in and opened her bathroom door. “ ANNIE GET OUT OF MY ROOM! “ Taylor screamed. Annie ran out of the room.

Still holding the squishy Annie sneaked it behind her backpack. “YOU STOLE MY SQUISHY!” said Taylor. “ NO I DIDN’T.” I said even though I did. I put it in my backpack and hopped Tayler wouldn’t find it.

At school I put the squishy in my locker. “ Can I Squish it “ said my best friend Rita. “ Maybe Later I told her. I was worried I would lose it. I felt my stomach turn like I ate something bad.

Later at recess I let Rita squish my squishy. Well not really mine but you know what I mean. Rita squished it again without asking and RIPPED IT! She said sorry like a million times but it didn’t mean anything.

When I got home I knew I had to break the news to my sister even though it would be hard. I went to my backpack and took out the squishy. I ran to my room and thought about what to do. I came up with an idea. I took the tape out from my cabinet and put it on one piece of the squishy and stuck it to the other piece of the squishy. Now all I had to do was get it in my sisters room without her noticing. “ HEY GIVE ME THAT SQUISHY YOU THIEF” said Taylor. “That’s where my squishy went, Taylor mumbled. “ What did you do with it”. “ Rita ripped it i’m sorry,”  I said softly. “ It’s ok just next time ask”. “ I will for sure.” “ But dont think im not going to tell mom.” “ I know I know”, I said. Then we hugged.

The Crazy Sprinklers

It was a Beautiful day and I was miserable so, I decided to ride my bike. I asked my mom excitedly and she said yes. So I got on my sneakers and went outside. It looked like It was summer and I could feel the breeze.

I took my bike out of the garage. My bike looked colorful and new like I had just bought it. It was tangled up with all the other bikes so it was hard to get out. I slowly pressed the button to open the garage door and walked my bike down the bumpy driveway. The handlebars felt rubbery like a tire.

After a while I found the perfect spot to start riding and went around and around my driveway. It felt cool and breezy but I didn’t care. I rode around five times and then another five. I felt ecstatic.

After I was about to stop when…. It started to rain I was like no. I almost went inside when I figured out it was coming from the ground. What could it be? Then I saw it was the sprinklers and I kept riding.

Finally, I stopped and was completely soaked. I decided to go inside and dry off. After I had hot cocoa and dried off.

Plant Experiment Reflection #2

Over the last two weeks my control plant has grown 7 more cm. My experimental is not growing. Like I thought.

Now my control is 10 cm tall. The color is green. There are 17 leaves and 12 separate plants. One quarter of the plants are drooping but most of them are upright. Most day growth was ½ cm to 1 cm. I think it changed a lot since the start in terms of growth, amount, and direction.

This is my Control quad it is 10cm tall.

I didn’t see any change since the last two weeks. Nothing grew!

This is my Experimental quad it is 0cm tall.

Plant Experiment Reflection #1

My class has been learning about plants. We came up with an experiment to test. I wanted to know if the plant would still grow with pebbles instead of soil. My hypothesis was it would not work because the soil gives nutrients and pebbles don’t give nutrients. I had two plants for this experiment one was a control one was experimental. I gave the control plant everything it  needs to grow like water, soil, air, sun, seeds and fertilizer pellets. The other one was the experimental plant, that is the one that I gave pebbles instead of soil. For my experimental plant I did not use soil instead I used pebbles. I am looking to see is replacing soil with pebbles is going to change the high of the plant.

After the first week I am noticing several things. First, my control plant is growing fast! It has 3 separate plants, each with 2 leaves. They are green and 3 cm tall already! The soil is light brown and moist from my watering it daily. Every day the plant grows about a cm. I wonder what will happen next! My manipulated plant is not growing yet. I wonder why?

Book Of The Month-Ted Talk Reflection

“One Plastic Bag” is mainly about turning plastic bags into reusable bags. My favorite part was when they were trying to sell the plastic bags and people bought them because they weren’t being teased any more. This book reminds me of the ban to end plastic bags in Bali because in the book “One Plastic Bag” they are trying to get rid of plastic bags and they are also trying to do the same thing in Bali. The message of the book is don’t give up even if people are teasing you. I think that Isatou is a brave women because even when people were mocking her she kept on going.

The Ted Talk about banning plastic bags in Bali is mostly about two girls wanting to save their home island. My favorite part was when the Governor signed a contract that said their island would be garbage free by 2018. This reminds me of the book “One Plastic Bag.” The message of the talk is that kids can do things. I think that the kids are brave because they are going for a big dream.

Both of these stories motivates me to try to make Scarsdale have less garbage and get people aware of littering. So it can stop. I learned from these that no dream is two big to follow.

Information Book – Fashion

I have been working really hard on my information book. We have been working on them for one month. It was a process of writing, editing, correcting, adding links and pictures. We learned to do a lot of the computer stuff at the computer lab we went there 3 times during the process. At the end of it all we learned a lot and got a lot out of it. It was a hard and interesting process. I hope you enjoy my book!
