Science Groups

Last Friday we were seperated into science groups and we did our first experiments in the Mixtures and Solutions unit. We learned in that experiment what materials are easily seperated and what are not. The experiment was conducted by first gathering the materials, sand, gravel and diatomaceous earth. We than had to do observations on each of the materials and write them down on a packet. We took the observations by using the seven senses except we did not taste the materials. After that we did our experiments, we combined two of the materials together and see if they were easily seperated. Other than the three materials there was also water but we didn’t need to write down our observations for water because we already know about water. Our group was the slowest to finish conducting our expierements. After each test you had to write down if it was easy to seperate or not easy to seperate the materials. We conducted a few more experiments like this. Then after that we watched a video about mixtures (A substance that has two or more different substances mixed together)  and solutions (A liquid mixture). It also talked a lot about solutes and solvents. The biggest part of this is that we learned that the solute is the substance that mixes and dissolves in the solvent to make a solution and the solvent is the substance there is more of. It was a really fun experience. Our next experiment was going to be in two weeks from that first experiment. Thanks for reading!
