Rube Goldberg has been a spectacular unit. I have come so far and learned so much. For example, I learned to always ask for help when you need it. I learned about innovation. I think this project has been a great learning experience. So, how did I learn those lessons?
Well, I learned to ask “for help when you need it” through some gruesome experiences. My Rube Goldberg was failing, but I refused to let anyone help me. I thought stubbornly I will do this on my own! And so I did, well, for a little while. My opinion was changed when, after spending nearly three hours on Rube Goldberg, I made no progress. So I agreed to let my parents and sister do a little bit of helping and everything went much more smoothly. I think this was probably the most valuable lesson I learned this unit.
I also learned a lot about innovation. I had a design, and I thought I was sticking to it. Currently the design is filed in my desk somewhere. That’s because, after trying the design for 45 minutes, I decided to do something else. Then, my new design didn’t work so I trashed it.So I came up with a a new design. Then another new design. It took me four iterations to get to my final design. This taught me a ton about innovation.
Overall, I have loved this unit tremendously. I loved working on Imovie, putting the project together, and the fun of sketching my Rube Goldberg. I enjoyed working to the finished goal, and chatting with my friends on how our projects were progressing. I have learned so much on the path to success. All in all, I feel that Rube Goldberg was one of the best projects I’ve very done. So to all of you out there, next time you want to do something fun…
