Capstone: Working On My Final Project

I had all my research done. Every bit of it. It was time to start working on my final project, a TED Talk. To start, I had to draft out a script.

Since I was rather far ahead in Capstone (at the time), I had plenty of time to create my script. I complied my research into one final source, and then began.

To start, I realized that some information that I researched could be cut out. Hydrogenated BNNTs were interesting, but they had positively nothing to do with solar flares or my Capstone project (I had gone of on a tangent while reading an article about protecting astronauts in space from radiation.) Secondly, I decided to add some jokes to my script. I felt that adding a few jokes such as “Imagine vomit in zero gravity! On second thought, don’t imagine that.” and “I’m not going to lull you to sleep with boring facts.”

Within a few days, I had compiled my information into a script. Now it was time to start on the slideshow for my TED Talk. I was inspired by Harley to animate my slides (ctrl+alt+shift+b). While creating and animating my slides, I kept my script open so I could a line the slides with my script. Within a two days or so, I finished my slideshow.

I thought I was done with Capstone after that, but that was far from right. I still had to revise my script and my slideshow. To start, I needed to “de-wordinessify” my script.

Ms. Boyer said that in pats of my script I needed to get to the point. Nobody in the audience would care if my Mom sent me a PDF about Howard Singer. The audience didn’t need to know how I set the interview. The audience just needed to know what I learned. After I fixed that and a few other things in my script, it was time to revise my slide show.

My slideshow was significantly good, but Ms. Boyer recommended that it needed to be “spiced up” a bit. There two problems that took away from my slideshow. First, the font. “Arial” is a good font and all, but I was researching solar flares. I needed something that looked new and flashy. I ended up choosing the font “Lalezar” which fit the theme of my presentation much better.

The other problem with my slideshow was that I had too many white backgrounds. This problem may seem easy to solve, but it actually wasn’t. I tried to replace all the white backgrounds with images, but a few backgrounds couldn’t be sensibly replaced with images. For those remaining white backgrounds, I tried replacing them with the color green. But then Ms. Boyer noted that the color green may not fit best with the theme of solar flares. So I switched the green backgrounds to red backgrounds, added a few more things (such as a QR code link to my blog) and then I had finished my slideshow.

Now that I have everything in Capstone, there is only one big thing left. CapCon 2017, the big share of this year’s Capstone projects. I can’t wait to see how the big share turns out!
