Title: International Ice Swimming Championship In Russia Attracts 400 Athletes

Summary: Brr! I’m getting chilly just reading the title!  For 3 days, these athletes are going to be swimming in water temperatures 41 degrees f and outside will be 6.8 – 4 degrees f. That is what 400 athletes from 33 different countries will be swimming in. The event will be held in a 25 meter ice pool with 10 lanes. Lots of people will be competing for the spot of being one of the fastest men or females. They will be competing in the 200 m free, 100 m breast, 200 free relay, and the 1000 m dash. These people probably know already that this can cause hypothermia, asthma, and afterdrop. The swimmers have to stay perfectly horizontal and aren’t allowed to do flip turns.  Somebody called a second will be watching them throughout the race and will help the before and after the race. After the race, the swimmers immediately have to go to a hot tub to get warm again. I probably wouldn’t want to swim in this race even though I love swimming.
