Character traits in “Pax”

In the book Pax by Sara Pennypacker, a character named Vola is a complex person, with both a caring and a tough side. She shows her caring side when she takes in a boy named Peter who broke his ankle. Vola takes care of Peter until his leg is healed. On her tough she she wants to know everything about Peter and she threatens Peter to talk. Also Vola is like a mother to Peter. Evidence to support this theory is that Vola made crutches and fed him food. I think that Vola is also really suspicious because she wants to know why Peter just wandered on to Vola’s property. Overall, I think Vola has a motherly side to her and a tough side.

Building an oil pipeline in through Native American sites

In my opinion I think that building an oil plant is a good thing and a bad thing. I think it is bad because it could ruin the tribes land. One reason I think that this is because people are building on their land so it is not only not okay it is also not fair. It is not fair because the government aren’t thinking about the Native Americans and that it is their land.

I also think that this is good because if there is a less chance of oil to spill out. One reason that it won’t be dangerous is because a train that is on train tracks, and it has oil, it could spill out any time, though it will make serious damage, but if you have an oil pipeline it is a safer way for oil to travel than a train so it is good.

I my opinion I think that Native American tribes should get the decision to have the pipeline or not because they have the right to speak up. Since they are American citizens and they are native to this country, they can have the right to protest and have freedom of speech.

Sphero SPRK+

Using a Sphero SPRK+ was so cool. It was really difficult at first but it got easy towards the end.

First what everyone did was wait for their name to be called out with a partner and get a Sphero and an ipad. After that Ms.Pavia and Ms.Edwards took us to the meeting room to test the Spheros out. We started off with drive mode which is when you use a joystick to control it. It was really hard when we tried it out for the first time. At first, I didn’t know what to do so my partner showed me and said the blue dot needs to be facing you. After that we went on to some coding programs and it was ok. Then Ms.Pavia and Ms.Edwards told us a challenge and you had to get your Sphero from one point to another. When we started we had no clue why it was going diagonal while everyone else was ahead. Ms.Pavia and Ms.Edwards got all of us into a group and showed us why only ours didn’t work and it is because the blue dot wasn’t facing us. We tried again and we got it, we did other challenges and that was to code a way for our Sphero to go in a square. Only a few groups got it so we did it until it was time to go. I really liked using the Sphero SPRK+.

2016 election

In the 2016 election, Donald Trump had been elected. I don’t like him because he has a lot of things on his mind and wants to do it all while being president. He wants to build a wall between Mexico and America and wants the Mexicans to pay for it.Trump has so many things up his mind that he won’t make any Americans happy. Trump wants to lower taxes when doesn’t pay his own. Also Trump wants to get rid of Obamacare. Obamacare is important to people and if he gets rid of it people will be in need of healthcare. I wonder how he will manage all of these things he wants to do for America on his own.

Philadelphia Trip

For the Philadelphia trip every 5th grader was at the school there by 5:30. I am taking a guess that most people woke up at 5:00. When we boarded the bus we watched a movie called Zootopia. Some kids were on their phone playing games or texting their friends.

At about 8:45 we were at the constitution center. When we got there teachers and chaperones told us once we got off the bus to put our lunch in a big bag. After that all the kids saw their tour guide for the morning.

We walked over to see the Liberty Bell, but first we needed to get through security. After we got through, there it was,the copper bell and kids were snapping pictures of the bell all over the place. After that kids headed out following their tour guides.

Then we went to Independence hall. It was nice how there was some paintings and some old looking chairs. I also liked how there was still a old design. There were elegant crown molding and columns that would cost a lot in this time.

When we were finished with Independence hall we started heading out to Ben Franklin’s post office(we didn’t get to go in the post office because another school was there and it took a long time), Franklin’s structure of the house, and his grave. While we were at his grave most people tossed a penny because of one of his famous sayings “A penny saved is a penny earned”. We walked back to the constitution center and ate lunch.

Then we went to a show called”Freedom Rising”but nothing much happened at the show but it did show how some leaders changed the world. It also showed some sentences from the constitution, like “We the people” and some other sayings.

After the show we went to a room where there were statues of people who were involved with the Declaration of Independence and the constitution. Everyone one had fun by sticking their phones into the statues hand and took a selfie. It was really fun finding which statue was which but they all looked the same.

We had an exhibit called “Headed to the White House”. Some of us made our own campaign badges and pretended to be president. We walked around seeing things in cases.

After all that we headed back to Scarsdale met up with our parents and went home.

Grouping characters in Pax (Chapter 6)

So far in Sara Pennypacker’s book Pax we are up to chapter 6 and we are learning about the character’s in the story. So far in the story we’ve met Pax, Peter, Peter’s dad, Peter’s grandfather, Bristle, and Runt. If I were to put these characters into groups I would choose Pax and Peter, Peter’s dad and grandfather have a connection, and Bristle and Runt  have connection. For Pax and Peter why I chose them  to be together is that they love each other and want to be together. I also chose this because they will do anything for each other. For Peter’s dad and Grandfather I chose them to be in this group because they are in the army and they need to be tough and strong. For Bristle and Runt the reason why I think they go together is because they are born into wildlife so they know how survive.

Social Issues in book clubs

SuperfudgeWe are learning about social issues in our books. My book is Superfudge by Judy Blume. The social issue of the book is that Peter’s mom is having a baby and the social issue here is that now all the attention goes on his sister and he doesn’t want her to be like Fudge, Peter’s younger brother. The other social issue is that they are moving to Princeton, N.J. for a change. These can be called social issues because he needs to suffer through all of  the changes that has happened in his life. Another issue that Peter has to suffer through is Fudge’s new pet bird is annoying him in his sleep. Another thing that me and my group is thinking is that Fudge has a mental problems and one example is that he kicked his teacher and another thing is that when he grows up he wants to be a bird and he climbed up where they but their backpacks over the shelves. Since he started kindergarten he is thinking that he needs special attention because he is now the middle child. Once they move to Princeton Peter is upset but happy at the same time because he now has a friend named Alex. This happens in the middle of the book. Towards the end of the book Fudge is now behaving in school and at home. They kind of trick you about at first but then he talks about big words such as a privilege and unanimous. Most things that Fudge do are issues for Peter. Peter’s sister is actually not going to turn out to be a replica of Fudge. I think that Fudge is growing up now because he and Daniel  ran away to the pastry shop but they went after Alex and Peter went. At the very end they actually goes back to their normal life in the city.

Colonial Day

Colonial day was awesome! During Colonial day we learned what children and adults did in colonial times and what they did while they were bored or for work. We did  candle making, dame school, stencils, toys and games, music, dance, lunch, tinsmithing, and textiles. I like everything that was there. The cookies and pie were amazingly very good! The final dance was awkward but it was fun. What I enjoyed the most was dressing up like colonial women.

Science Experiments

Our class did some experiments about erosion and weathering. I loved all the experiments we did. They were all so fun. I just can’t make my mind up on which one was my favorite. The first one we did was about the water cycle. We had water in a container, clear wrap, and a ice pack. We put the water in the in the container and put the clear wrap on with a rubber band. Then we put the ice pack on top of the clear wrap and we had to wait about 5-6 minutes. We took our pointer fingers and tapped the wrap and water fell, like rain and it was a like creating a water cycle. We also did some soil component experiments and some water effecting experiments.

My initial thoughts…

Hi. I am Neha and this is my new blog! I need to tell the biggest truth of all and that is that I am a little scared of my blog because what if they don’t like my work that I am putting on my blog? Well I finally got that out of me but I am also so excited because I am in charge of all the things  that I put it on my very first blog but this isn’t the first blog I have had but I am not jumping into that because I am not going to make you guys bored. This blog is mostly for my work or just some things that our teacher wants us to do. I am very also nervous and all my work on this blog. What if this post is not the right one. Who knows but my teacher. I am going to post all my things till college or not. My computer teacher Mr.Casal is making us this blog because then it will be more easier to get to it. That is all I am really thinking about this blog what I am going to talk about in my blog.
