I wanted to do something that I am really passionate about, so I thought of what I wanted to be when I was older and right away I thought of a cardiothoracic surgeons. I decided this because their are so many things you can learn about in the medicine world.
Dear Mr. D,
For my 2020 passion project I would like my project to be about cardiothoracic surgeons and surgery. I have always been passionate about the study of medicine, and I’ve always been most interested in the heart because it is what runs the body. I love to watch TV shows about surgery, such as Grey’s Anatomy, and the good doctor. I always love watching YouTube videos about the heart and its duties. But I’m also really passionate about being a surgeon in general, and it’s really interesting to me how they can work so well under the enormous amount of pressure that they are under. Another reason why I’m very interested in cardiothoracic surgery is because my family has heart problems.
Main inquiry question: What is being a cardiothoracic surgeon like?
Sub-questions:
- What kind of education does a cardiothoracic surgeon need?
- What skills do cardiothoracic surgeons need to master?
- What is a day in the life of a cardiothoracic surgeon like?
- What qualities are important for a cardiothoracic surgeon?
- How many different types of heart surgeries are there?
- How many known heart diseases are there? How many of those need to be treated with surgery?
- What are some of the parts of the heart?
I will be gathering my research from trustworthy articles, videos, and hopefully will get an interview because my dad works with the White plains hospital. I plan to use the following resources:
Websites:
https://www.healthcareers.nhs.uk/explore-roles/doctors/roles-doctors/surgery/cardiothoracic-surgery
https://ctsurgerypatients.org/what-is-a-cardiothoracic-surgeon
Video: https://www.mountsinai.org/care/heart/about/moviehttps://www.mountsinai.org/care/heart/about/movies
I will be presenting my information by making a Google slide presentation, and a poster. Or maybe do a WeVideo I’m really excited to share my learning with the class. I am also very excited to dive deeper in the medicine world.
As far as documenting my process, I will be writing blog posts three to four times a week about my process of gathering my research. I will also be doing videos explaining my information in ways that are better for the class to understand.
Thanks,
Phoebe Tucker
