Michael O’Shaunassey has just saved one of the top scientists in the world. They are gliding past snowy capped mountains and a beautiful resort in a cable car. The scene is beautiful and it seems to be peaceful. However, Michael is deathly afraid of heights and they are currently thousands of feet up in the air. Just then, a knife is stabbed through the roof of the cable car. Michael knows someone is there. It is Fritz, Michael’s ex-friend. Michael faces his fears and slowly climbs up the cable car and then, he starts falling. However, Fritz catches him. Fritz says that he should have let Michael die, but Fritz respects Michael’s bravery and courage. Fritz had planted a bomb on the roof of the cable car that would blow up the scientist, Michael, and Fritz. They had a wild fight for the bomb and Michael manages to knock it off the roof of the cable. It lands to the ground of the alps. Bam! The bomb goes off and triggers an avalanche. It heads directly for the cable car and crashes into Michael. Michael survived, but Fritz had not managed to hold on. “Once you fall, it’s over”. The avalanche symbolizes Fritz and Michael’s relationship. In the beginning, Fritz and Michael were best friends. They depended on each other and defended each other. As time went on, Fritz became more and more devoted to Hitler and started to break away from Michael. The ending is their disastrous relationship. Fritz is an example of what Nazi propaganda can do to you. Fritz was a brave and kind boy in the beginning, who cared about others. However, Fritz was indoctrinated and brainwashed by the Hitler Youth. He was so devoted to Hitler, that he would kill himself and sacrifice his friends and family for Hitler’s cause.

Blog Post 3 Projekt 1065

Today, when I read the text, I felt nervous and excited. Michael O’Shaunnasey had just found out the biggest secret in his life. He just found out the plans for the German jet plane that could turn the tide of the war. It was the blueprints for the plane and Michael wanted to know more. He had found out the plans from his only friend, Fritz, a German Nazi who had recently moved to Berlin. His father was working in a factory that produced these planes. However, the meeting was cut short as the air raid siren sounded and everyone scrambled to get into air raid shelters. However, Michael knew he needed to know more about the plans so he befriended Fritz even more. He helped him train for the SRD and get into the Gestapo. Michael was determined to help the allies succeed. However, Fritz betrayed Michael during the boxing ring and beat him up really bad. Then, Michael got back up and beat Fritz over and over again until Fritz went unconscious. Not only did Michael hate beating people up, but he had also just blown his chance of looking at the plans for project 1065.  After this, I felt sad and nervous. However, the next day, Fritz did the unexpected, he hugged Michael. He was so happy that he passed to the boxing test that he became friends with him again. He helped Michael pass his ultimate fear, heights. Michael was afraid of heights. Fritz guided Michael through the test. Micheal just couldn’t do it and in the end, Fritz pushed him and he fell. Michael and Fritz became friends and passed the test and was still in the Hitler youth. In the end, they became great friends and made it to the SRD, Michael’s final goal was finally achieved.

“Michael, it’s terrible to say so, but sometimes you have to weigh the cost of one man’s life against the value of an entire operation.”

Michael is a good person and he hates the aggressive nature of the Germans. However, he feels bad when they have to sacrifice a life to gain information. There have been many experiences in Michael’s life where he wanted to help someone. During Kristallnacht,  there was a hurt Jew who was being beaten up. However, Michael was not able to help because his family didn’t want to be exposed. Michael saved the royal air force pilot when he was shot down. Michael may have been caught. However, he got lucky and saved the pilot. He did this with a little trickery and with the help of his new friend, Fritz. Fritz becomes Michael’s new ally and friend in Germany. However, his mom and dad were furious with him. They told him this. “Michael, it’s terrible to say so, but sometimes you have to weigh the cost of one man’s life against the value of an entire operation.” Although Michael was just trying to be useful and do something great, his parents condemned him. However, his parents have a point. The job that Michael and his family have is too important. Sometimes they have to sacrifice things they believe is right and the people they love. One good thing that turned out was that the pilot had valuable information. This quote has great value. It shows us that sometimes, we need to sacrifice things we love, or care about. In Michael’s case, he may have needed to sacrifice the pilot to protect his own interests, helping spy for the allies. However, generally, it is great to do good things in the world.

It is the height of World War Two. Michael O’Shaunassey is the son of the Irish Ambassador to Germany. Although he isn’t blond-haired and blue-eyed, he appears to an average German boy. He has long brown hair and brown eyes while being able to speak flawless German. The story starts off with Michael in a party with many high ranking German government officials or generals. He has learned to hate the Germans. He hates it when they round up the Jews and beat them up, he hates when the Germans boast about themselves catching Jewish and sending them off to concentration camps or talk about all the territory the fatherland has gained. He helps the allied cause by gaining more information about German factory locations. He is a spy for the allies. However, it was not always like this. When Michael first came to Berlin from London, he loved it. The old grand buildings and the benevolent German people. At that time, the Nazis were already in power but not everyone was a Nazi supporter. People had the freedom to express their thoughts and feelings. However, everything changed one night. When Michael was still 8 years old in November 1938, on the night of the broken glass, he learned the true nature of the Germans. He felt helpless and hurt.  The Jews being rounded up and beaten, storefronts sloshed with graffiti and items destroyed. He wanted to help the poor people who were being murdered and beat up. However, he could do nothing but watch. He had to keep a low profile. It was also on a fateful night he learned of his parent’s true role in Germany. They were spying for the Irish and British and gaining intelligence on German secret factories and other secret areas. Michael has grown from his young, immature self who didn’t understand the world and the Nazi’s, to a spy working for the Irish and British government. He wants to help society defeat the Germans. Most importantly, Michael wants to be important. He wants to help the Jewish people and now, he finally has the chance. We learn another face of the German people in this story. Not all Germans supported Hitler and worshipped his ideas. There were plenty of people just like Michael who were fighting for a greater cause.
