Playing the switch game

In tech this week, we played a game with out switches. In this game there were different jobs. The person who played, the person who flipped the cards, and the person who counted mistakes. The way you play is you flip a deck of cards split in half, and you press the button according to the red card. If it’s on the left, you use the left switch, right is right switch, and if it’s both cards, the middle switch. I thought the game went well because I only made 2 mistakes!

Week of 6/1

In tech this week we started out electrical switches. The assignment is to create 3 switches, and then be able to use them to play a game. The switches have to be able to turn on a led light, using tinfoil as the conductor. I made 2 switches, one that was a seesaw (that counted as 2 switches) and another that was a button.

Week of 5/25

This week in tech we learned about atoms. For this blog post, I’m going to explain something from this week I found interesting. It was that since atoms are so small, if you took a ball made of all the same atoms that was the size of a grapefruit, and made it the size of the earth, the atoms inside would only be the size of blueberries. And, there would be atoms everywhere. This means that everywhere you look, you would see blueberries. This is because there are so many atoms in a ball that is only the size of the grapefruit. I think this is interesting because I didn’t know that there were so many atoms in such a small ball!

Week of 5/17

This week in tech, we worked on our mechanical switches. To do this, we had to wax our gears with crayons so they would glide correctly. Then, we used paint pens to design the different pieces. Finally, we drilled and sanded our pieces and glued them together. The hardest part for me was drilling and sanding because I messed up a few times and drilled too far, and I had trouble sanding. Overall, I enjoyed making my mechanical switch this week.
