Reading Struggles

So I am probably the pickiest person I’ve ever met when it comes to books. Meaning I understand the struggles people go through when finding a book to read. Now not everybody is like me, some people grab a book and are immediately interested. You have probably been told “don’t judge a book by it’s cover” which is something I seem to do. But in my defense it’s easier for me to do so then read the first page of every book I see. I started doing this because sometimes I read the first page and fall in love with the book, but then half way into it I’m bored! So those are the reasons I am about to talk all about how I understand what people who “hate reading” go through and much, much more.

First on my list nobody and I mean nobody “hates” reading. Crazy, right. That’s exactly what I thought until I realized I am just really picky. You just haven’t found a book you love yet. So unless you start looking get ready for a life of misery. You will always not just need to be able to read but you will have to read for everything. For example, driving, tests and much more.

The second thing I need to say is something that has helped me since I learned it. How to find a book. There are three ways, the first one is my all time favorite, the second is still pretty good for me to use, and the third I would suggest you only use if you are a young reader. Number one, Look at the title and the whole cover carefully. Does it look like a book you have liked in the past, a book you might like or is it by an author whose books you enjoy reading. Number two, simply read the blurb. (words that are either on the back or the front flap) Then lastly the five finger rule. This is when you read the first page only and count how many words you don’t understand. None means too easy, two or three means just right, five or more means too hard.

Those are all my suggestions. I hope you can relate or this helps. Have fun testing my ideas out. Remember this is all my opinion and in no means is meant to be offensive. Thanks for reading my blog post especially since this is for people who think they don’t enjoy reading.

It’s so Cute!

Even though I was in a fuzzy blanket I was still freezing. “It’s so cold!” I said to my dad.

“I like it cold when I drive, that’s why I told you to bring a blanket,” my dad said said back. We were on our way to my uncle’s wedding in Virginia. Four hours away from home! I was so tired.

“How much longer?” Charlie whined.

“Thirty minutes” my mom said.

I saw something out my window. I asked my dad what it was and he said we could get out and check it out. “OMG!” Sam said. There were like twenty goats just standing behind a fence!

But then I read a big sign that said “No Trespassing!” I was so scared. But then my dad got into the car and pulled into the driveway. You could probably guess I was now terrified!

Sam asked my dad if there were ticks, he said no but my mom told her to watch out in case. I walked over to the baby goat behind the fence and reached my hand over. My heart melted just looking at it. The goat didn’t touch me but of course I still asked if we could keep it. You could probably guess the answer I got, “No way!” my mom said. I tried, I thought.

Sam looked at the time, we had to get back on the road. “Bye” I said to the goats. They didn’t answer. That was fun, I thought, now it’s time for some sleep.
