Computer for an Hour

MORE CHROMEBOOK TIME

I don’t think children get enough time on their chromebooks. I see grown-ups on computers all the time, but we only get to use them twenty minutes once a week! It’s so unfair!  If grown-ups get a lot of time, WE should, too! The more we use computers, the better we will become. If people see us how marvelous we are at computers, they will think we are more grown-up. I think kids should have computer at school for an hour each day.

Some people say that more screens will make kids’ brains melt. However, not everything on electronics are just video games. Computers teach you a lot, too. Heck, I was on a Chromebook while writing this essay! Essays are school business, right?

More chromebook time will probably make learning more fun, which will make kids look forward to learning and school. For example, sometimes I come in and see that we have Math after Morning meeting. I groan at least ten times! But sometimes I come in and realize we have Computer, and my face BEAMS at the thought of Prodigy. Don’t you want your students to adore class? Imagine how amazing you could feel if kids came in with huge, joyful, happy smiles on their faces! It will also make kids want to learn longer amounts of time. If we have more chromebook time, kids will start to login at home, on airplanes, in the car…the possibilities are endless!

Also, you are going to have to learn to work with computers because you’re going to be using them when you’re older and for the rest of your life. For example, you can memorize keys’ location on the keyboard to learn to type faster. You can also learn coding, which will help you understand what your computer is trying to tell you. What if there’s an error, and you don’t know what to do? That would be HORRIBLE! You might even have to buy a new computer! Computers help you prepare for college and jobs. You can find out which schools are good and which ones are not. Just think how important computers are for grown-ups!

Computers will help kids learn. You can find educational games like Prodigy, Math Magician, Typing Club…There are thousands of them! Plus, you can take online tests, like Star. (For your information, Star tests are WAY better than tests on a piece of paper!) You can also read online books, which, nonfiction or fiction, are educational. We will also make sure the books are appropriate for children before we read them. That’s the truth!

I think we should get computer time for an hour each day so we can almost get as much opportunities as adults. If we do that, we will get to learn the ways of computers and Chromebooks. So what are you waiting for? Get on down there and schedule an hour of Chromebooks each day!

Hobie Disaster

For winter vacation my little brother, mom and dad, and I went to Antigua and Barbuda. Our dog, Linus, was at the dog sitter. We went to a hotel in Carlisle Bay. Part of the reason we came was because there was a great kids club. On my final day of kids club, I did full day. We did zip lining through the Antigua rain forest in the morning, which was awesome. Then in the afternoon, my mom and dad brought me back. I didn’t see anyone at the beach, so I thought they might have changed the schedule because of the wind. But then I saw our counselors, Gevaughn and Jaida, walking down the sidewalk. Behind them came the other kids. I was the only boy there, which was not good. But it was better than me being the only kid my age. Gevauhn tugged two sailboats into the water. I hopped on one of them. Jaida chose two other kids to go on my boat. The rest of the kids went on the other boat. There was a counselor on each boat. I went with Gevaughn. Gevaughn steered our boat into the ocean, and then taught us how to steer and balance the boat. At one point the other boat got stuck on an island. “They’re stranded! They’re stranded! They’re stranded!” hollered one of the kids. “Stop saying ‘stranded’!” I yelled. When we got in deep, the boat lost balance. “SWITCH SIDES!” screamed Gevaughn, but it was too late. The boat had tilted so that the sail was sticking out to the side. I was holding onto the side/top. my legs were dangling in the air. Finally the boat flipped upside-down. I got stuck under for a couple seconds, but then I popped out from under the boat. I swam around and saw that blood was running down Darsey’s (one of the girls) chin. We swam around for a while, and I was worried that a shark would come. Gevaughn managed to flip the boat over again, and we got back on. Darsey had to go to the other boat. “The other boat is so lucky!” I complained, but then the other boat’s sail snapped in half and fell on a girl’s head. “Who’s lucky now?” yelled Gevaughn.
