Box project update

So far, I’ve finished my cardboard box plan and almost finish cutting my food.

1. How did making the cardboard help you?

Well, the cardboard actually helped me a lot because when I made my cardboard prototype, I realized that the size of my box was a lot smaller than the size I wanted it to be. But since I used cardboard first, I was able to change the size to better fit my accommodations.

2. How did you feel about using each tool?

The try square was a bit of a problem for me because the try squares with numbers were too small and the good sized try squares had no numbers. To solve this problem, I but the try square and then I put a ruler right next to it so I could get a straight line. I thought that the box saw would be really hard to use but it was actually really easy for me.

3. What challenges did you face in measuring?

As I said before, I couldn’t find a try-square that worked with my wood. So I added the ruler to increase the size. Also, after I finished my first draft of drawing on my wood, I had to make one of the lines shorter.

4. What challenges did you face in cutting wood?

Honestly, so far it’s been very easy to cut. Using the box saw, I was able to cut each line in roughly 25 seconds. I think that the band saw will be a lot like the scroll saw which was very easy for me to use.

5. What did you find particularly satisfying?

I found that cutting the wood with the box saw and taping my cardboard box together especially satisfying. I like it when I get a lot of adrenaline flowing through my body. So that’s why I like using the saws. For taping, I like it when things fit perfectly together.

6. What did you find particularly frustrating?

I thought that I began to get really impatient when drawing my sketch because I had to keep erasing and drawing because I would either wan’t to suddenly change my design or I would measure it wrong, thinking that it was right.

What will I do during the next few weeks?

Over the next few weeks, I plan to continuing cutting my wood and getting ready to glue it together. I also plan to sand down my splintered edges. I want to put felt in it because I like how it feels. I also plan to decorate the outside and also stain it a polished type of brown. Almost like wooden floors. I plan to carve letters and stamp letters onto it if I have extra time. I would also like to maybe 3-d print a white bunny to resemble my own bunny that I have at home. When I finish, I plan to use this box to store precious items of my family like photos, objects that have memorable pasts, and many other objects.

Box project progress

So far, I have completed my cardboard replica of my box. I have made it so the sides are 4 inches by 5 inches, the top is 8 inches by 5 inches and my front and back pieces are 8 inches by five inches. I have made my top with hinges and also I’ve made them a little tight so that the cap will sometimes close on it’s own and so that it won’t open too far.

Safety Rules in Tech 7

In 7th grade tech, the same safety rules that we had last year are that we cannot run in the tech room and we also should use the tools one at a time and concentrate when using it so that no one will get hurt. I think that the most important rule is just to be careful because we have many new dangerous tools. I think that the easiest rule that I will have to remember is to not run and to not use the vice.

Automata final

Today I finished my automata. This was a long complicated process because just the slightest mistake could cause your entire automata to be messed up. For me, the hardest process making it functional. After that, I got to do the most fun and easiest step, decorating. For my design, I decided to create a bunch of colors. I put pom poms in the corners of my automata. After that, I just put a bunch of colorful things together to finish. This was a really fun project overall.

Automata project

We are starting a project where we have to make a automata which is basically a complex machine that can make something turn or something go up and down or both. I am planning to make one with gears, axles, cams and followers. My two followers will have a bunny rabbit and a Buddha on top of it. This project looks really fun and I’m really looking forward to doing it.

Flashlight

I have finished my flashlight. It was a fun but hard process. Before we were even able to start building, we had to make a diagram. This was pretty hard because we had to measure and draw everything to scale. After this, I had to cut my PVC pipe. This wasn’t that hard because I already had my pipes length and all I need to do was cut it. Next I solder my cricut. I first cut my wires then soldered my cricut altogether. My circuit consisted of two black wires, one red wire, a LED light, a switch and a battery. Once I finished soldering, I just put my wires into my PVC pipe and closed it up. Finally I colored it.

Breadboards

On a breadboard, the positive side is all connected, so are the negative sides. In the middle, the holes on the number side are all connected. But, the thing in the middle is called the ravine and energy can’t pass through the ravine. We also added wires and lightbulbs to it. The battery’s two sides were on opposite sides. One was on the negative one and one was on the positive one. The lightbulb stretched across the ravine so that the power could pass from one side to another.

Solder person

This week we started a project where we have to make a miniature person out of copper. We used a long piece of copper about 4 inches long. This piece of copper would be used to make the solder person’s body. After that, we had another piece of wire about an inch long and we are going to use this as the hands. In order to connect the two, we have to solder them together. I haven’t started to solder yet but my person’s body is done. I am still waiting to solder the body to the arms.

Switch project

Last week, we learned about a new project that we were going to start which is a project where we are going to make three switches. The switches can be anyway you want it to be but after you make three, you’re going to use them for a game. The way that the game is going to work is that there is going to be two other people that each have half a deck of cards. Then, they will throw down a card each at the same time. If one of the cards is red, you will activate the switch closest to the card. If the cards are both red, you will press a middle switch. The goal of the game is to go as fast as you can. This project has to do with driverless cars.

Atoms

Last week, I learned about atoms. Two days ago, I learned about the periodic table. I learned that in an element a periodic table has the element name, how many atoms there are and it’s atomic weight. For example, above is gold. In the top left, the number 79 is how many atoms gold has. The number of atoms determine the element. The words in the middle are golds name. Au is it’s name on the periodic table of elements. Finally the number on the bottom, 196.97 is the atomic weight.
