So recently, the outbreak of COVID-19 has infected a lot of people. And now it is severe enough to be a medical emergency for the entire world, which means that sadly, we have to be kept indoors in quarantine. Even though we have more freedom, we still have to attend online class meets. One strange thing that did happen was that more boys tend to be outspoken during the classes, and more girls tend to communicate through non-direct ways, such as emails.

I think that this is mainly caused because boys in general participate in more active sports compared to girls in general, so boys tend to be more active and speak more. Also, girls in general have more experience of using chat messaging or texting, so it would make sense if more girls communicated through emails.

You are one of a few people who mentioned that girls are more active in text messaging and chat messaging so that might translate to a propensity to communicate via email. And you are the first to suggest a connection to physical/active sports – such an interesting idea!

Several students have suggested that at this age girls tend to be more shy and like to think things through before they speak while boys more outgoing and like to talk — this might explain the pattern of behavior that we are observing.

I wonder how these behaviors might change from the time we are very young to now in middle school and how it might change again as you move into high school and college and beyond?
