WEEK AT A GLANCE
I hope you enjoyed yesterdays conversations as much as Sharon and I did. We wish you had the opportunity to listen in on snippets of the discussions taking place in spaces around the building. Your interactions with each other on the topics were professional, thoughtful, honest, meaningful and productive. Edgar will be sharing common threads from across the district and your ideas will influence the district’s strategic plans. Let’s continue the conversations so that the wonderful ideas that were generated from your discussions can become a part of the fabric of our school. We will carve out time at our next faculty meeting to share your ideas.
Have a great weekend!
Please join creative artist James Dargan in the Gym on Wednesday for a special treat. James has been working with our fifth graders over the past two weeks and has offered to do a presentation for all students. James will be presenting a program of spirituals and original songs that traces African American and black history from Slavery through Civil Rights. This is a variation of his recital “O Glory” that he tours to various schools and venues throughout the country.
James Dargan is a creative artist and authenticity addict from the Southeastern US; he has played the violin and sung since he was a child, and he is a composer, essayist, poet, and polyglot translator. After a brief stint as a university English professor, James decided to sing, and subsequently studied and performed in the US, Europe, the UK, and Canada. James lives and works in NYC. Recent artistic milestones include his first Schubert’s Winterreise; multiple performances (past and upcoming) of his social justice-oriented recital “Oh, Glory!”; his Manhattan solo debut as the baritone soloist for Musica Viva NY’s April 8th 2018 concert, “Infinite Hope”; four NYC premieres of songs for which James was lyricist, composer, and performer; and the in-progress writing of his first opera: “The Legend of John Henry”.
