Tech class:

I really enjoyed this quarters quarterly. I liked how we were given all the materials needed, instead of like some other classes (as a virtual student), just watching the people in class do it. The projects were pretty fun and I liked that we were doing it physically with our hands, and that it wasn’t all online. Everything we did in class was really fun, and I liked all the videos Mr. Calvert showed us. All of it was very informative. The videos that Mr. Calvert posted so we’d know how to build each thing was also really helpful. I loved the Kahoots, but sadly latest one, I lost my podium spot on the last question >: ( on the I learned a lot and especially enjoyed the battery video :.) Thank you so much mr. Calvert! Sad that I won’t be in this quarterly anymore, but I had a lot of fun.

Laptops:

Laptops are really useful. I do have a phone, but unlike phones (which I have to admit are more convenient to carry around), laptops have a much larger screen, so that they don’t damage your eyes as much. I have a 15” laptop which is pretty huge and extremely heavy, compared to the 11” one I had before, but it’s really helpful to be able to see everything you’re doing on such a big screen. They aren’t like desktops which are basically impossible to carry around, so you can stuff it in you backpack/suitcase, and go anywhere.

Circle:

if you don’t know what circle is, it’s a device/app that controls your child’s WiFi and internet usage. To be honest, I hate circle (like a lot), but my parents love it. Instead of limiting time on a certain app or something like that, circle is connected to your WiFi so that you can completely cut off the WiFi to your child’s device. It can also stop the WiFi to specific apps as well. I hate circle because it makes me late to class sometime because I need to scream “give me wifi” at my mom, but it helps with not letting me go online too much, and focus on my school work.

Smart/home cameras:

Security cameras are really useful in my opinion, and they help with a lot of things. I’ve read a lot of articles about how someone committed a crime, and a neighbors security camera caught it. Without this, who knows if the person would’ve ever been caught. But they’re not only for outside. I have a puppy, and we leave a camera right next to his crate. Same for my bunnies. There’s a security camera watching them too. This is extremely important because then we can see them and make sure that they aren’t in danger no matter where we are. This is similar to baby monitors, etc.

Earbuds:

This honestly is pretty random, but I realized that I used headphones/earbuds a lot, and that it was a type of technology. My sister an I both are in the same room for classes, which gets really annoying, but without earbuds, it would be a lot worse. Earbuds just transfer the sound directly into your ears which is really helpful in public places, or when you don’t want to be loud. Sometimes (when I wasn’t virtual), we would have to zoom in from the classroom. If we didn’t have headphones, every time someone unmuted, there would be a really loud echo that would hurt your ears. With earbuds, this wouldn’t happen.

Crank and cam projects:

I thought that the crank and cam projects were fun because we got to physically build something using our hands. On thing that a had a problem with in both, was that the hole that the crank/cam arm thing was supposed to go into, wasn’t big enough. Every time, the arm would go up, and just get stuck. A few times, I had to peel apart the glue and either make the arm smaller, or the hole wider. My paper ripped quite a bit which was annoying, but I eventually figured it out. I did crank A and B + cam A and B (just for extra credit haha). For one, I lost a piece or two, so I just had to make do with what I had, luckily it was just a small piece so the only thing was the the little horizontal thing (I probably make no sense) that spins would fall out.

Electronics:

Electronics are extremely useful, especially now. With people working from home, and doing school online, it’s crucial for there to be a way to do work, and communicate with each other. Whether it’s through calls, emails, or something else, it’s most likely going to be online. Without electronics, we wouldn’t be able to get a lot of things done. There are quite a lot of people who work with people across the country, or even across the world, and information wouldn’t be able to get delivered if it wasn’t for electronics, and the internet. I think it’s super useful and necessary for electronics to be part of our lives, as it plays a huge role in communication and getting things done easier and quicker.

I beam:

this was also a while ago, but I’ll write about it now.

my beam that I made myself consisted of a lot more layers than the original one. I made it thicker where more weight was going to go, and thinner were there was less pressure. Even with this, my I beam folded under the weight of a couple cans, while the original one held up better. Because it’s in the shape of an “I”, it held up well and didn’t fold as easily. This is because it’s in the exact shape so that when there tension, etc. it’s strong enough to still hold up.

Technology in general:

technology has greatly impacted our lives in every was possible, and without it, we’d be nowhere. Technology helps make our lives so much easier, and make things efficient. Many people think of it as electronic devices and just electronic things in general, but that’s not the case. Technology is just skills and methods used to achieve something (goals). Animals use it too. They adapt to their habitats and use what’s handy to make their lives easier for them. For example, during this pandemic, things like zoom help make things a lot easier. Without it, we wouldn’t be able to communicate as well as we do now. The recourses available are a big help in containing the virus, and that’s an example of technology.

Truss project:

I know that this was a little while ago, but I forgot to write about it so here it goes. I thought that my truss held a decent amount of books. 13 I think it was. I used potato’s instead of carrots so I’m not sure if that made a difference at all. When building my truss, I started out with cucumbers, but they were too wet and soggy, so I tried potatoes, and that worked out well. I put a toothpick on every side (diagonally), so that on each side, there were 2 triangles. Triangles are the the strongest shape, so mine held up pretty well. I think I could have put a few more books on there if I was a little more careful, and built it a little sturdier.
