Atoms #2

Today we were talking about what a atom is, I will explain to you what a atom is if you don’t know what it is. A atom is everything, you might be thinking “Everything that impossible!” Well let me tell yes it is possible. But atoms actually never touch each other, so if someone touched you or poked you they actually don’t. You’re whole body is made out of  atoms and so is your friends body and everyone on the universe. This lesson was very fun, I learned a lot about atoms, overall this was great!

Breakout out #1

For this lesson we had a lock that we had to open the big lock was for your team to solve, the smaller lock had a clue inside of it to help solve the big box, but you didn’t need the clue inside of it to solve the big box’s locks. There was clues around the room to help you figure out the locks. It was very fun to work together. My team got the big box open first. We started to look for clues so we could could open the small box. Finally after many tries we got it. So my team got the big box open first and the small lock. This lesson was very fun. We worked together and when we did we made a really good team, so it all worked out well. Overall this was very fun

Answering My Main Inquiry Question (Essay)

So as you know I said in my last blog post that I would share my essay I wrote about answering my main inquiry question. I really enjoyed writing my essay, and I hope you enjoy reading it.

Here is my Essay:

Have you ever wondered how LEGO has evolved over time? Well, I have, and if you have wondered too, I will answer it for you. LEGO has evolved in many different ways. Three ways include their use of bricks and sets, their connection/partnering with other companies, and how their products are produced.

Ole Kirk Christiansen started a toy shop but still didn’t have a name. He took a piece of paper and wrote “LEG GODT ” which in danish means play well, but he thought it was too long so he changed it to as we all know “LEGO” which in Latin means to put together. The name was taken very well by the people. The business was very slow but one of his sons, Godtfred Kirk Christiansen, helped out after school. Then later on a guy came to Billund to buy some wooden toys for his shops on the holidays. It was a big order they started right away. In the middle of their work they got a letter from the buyer, he had filed for bankruptcy. They had spent a lot of their companies’ money on this order so now LEGO was in big trouble. When WWII broke out they tried their best to keep the shop going. But it was not very good. So Ole heads out to sell the toys himself. He got more food than money but he got something from selling the toys. But then in 1942 on a stormy night, the workshop caught on fire. Ole had almost given up but he knew that he had to fight to make this work. So Ole built a new workshop to improve and it went well but then Ole sadly passed away. Now his son Godtfred Kirk Christiansen took over the business. But then Godfred had to experience another fire in LEGO. But he knew he had to keep his head held high just like his father did.

One way LEGO has evolved in the construction of their LEGO bricks and sets. When the LEGO brick was first created it didn’t have holes under it so it couldn’t stick together with other LEGO bricks, it could only go on top of them. Also, before they didn’t have the LEGO written on the small dots on the top, but now they do have LEGO written on the small dots on the top. So the LEGO brick has evolved a lot from when it first was created. LEGO has also evolved by how they create and create their sets. In the beginning, LEGO sets weren’t very detailed and the LEGO bricks didn’t stick together, So back then LEGO sets were way harder to build. The sets weren’t big, they were very small and there weren’t big buildings they’re small houses and there were no cities. So LEGO sets were very different from how LEGO sets are today. Today, there are sets where you can build big buildings and cars and characters, and all LEGO bricks stick. So it really has been a big change in how they have created the LEGO sets. There have been a lot of positive changes.

LEGO ventures, partnerships with other companies, are a second way LEGO has evolved. LEGO ventures is like the gaming business for LEGO. So what LEGO ventures do is that they create LEGO games and they buy games. Sometimes they create apps for LEGO, one of their most famous LEGO apps is the “LEGO Life App.” What this app is that kids can upload what they have created out of LEGO. It is like Instagram but for LEGO. But it has a special system that kids can’t bully and there can’t be any information that they have to share. So it is really safe for kids. Many parents really liked that so the Lego Life app got a lot of downloads.

One last way LEGO has evolved is how the process of buying LEGO’s has evolved. When LEGO toy bricks were first created they were really hard to get hold of and they were really expensive, so they didn’t really get a lot of money in the beginning. After a time they started to realize that they should sell LEGO products outside of Denmark, and they successfully did. At first, it was only sold to three other European countries. By around the 1990s, LEGO started to realize that they needed to sell LEGO toys to places outside Europe, too. When they did that they also lowered the prices by a lot. So, it changed from the beginning that LEGO toys were hard to get expensive and, but now they have LEGO toys all over the world and they are not very expensive.

In conclusion, LEGO has really changed over time. It has changed a lot and has also added things to their company. For example, LEGO changed the production of how they make their toys and how they control their business. LEGO has also changed by adding things to their company. Another way it has evolved is by selling all of its products all around the world. They have strategies and they have plans. LEGO has made a lot of progress and will make even more progress in the future. What do you think that LEGO will do in the future?

Capstone Blog Post #3

We are on our last blog post for our Capstone project. This blog post is about our final project and answering our main inquiry question. This Capstone project has been so much fun. So we wrote an essay on answering our main inquiry question. It was a lot of fun writing the essay and you learn a lot from it. But I will add my essay in my next post. In this post, I will be talking about our final presentation and my experience.

This project was amazing because there are so many fun parts, but let’s start from the beginning. First of course we had to start by finding our topic, I chose LEGO. The next step was coming up with the main inquiry question then 5 or more sub-questions. My main inquiry question was “How has LEGO evolved over time.” So this was a big question to cover. Next, we had to do a lot of research, which I actually enjoyed a lot. But it was pretty hard. After that came the hard part, we had to start writing our script. It was fun and hard at the same time. After that, I created the slides for my presentation. I had 35 slides and photos were a big problem for me. It took me such a long time to find good, big, and clear photos but then I was finally done with my slides. But then came the memorizing. I had pretty much already remembered my script because I read it so many times.

Everything in this project was fun but there were moments I enjoyed and moments I didn’t. I am going to start with moments I didn’t enjoy. My least favorite thing was probably coming up with a sub-question. It was that bad but it wasn’t anything that I enjoyed. Another thing I did really enjoy was collating the photos. I didn’t enjoy this because it took me such a long time! But that was pretty much the only thing I didn’t enjoy.

There were many things I did enjoy a lot. Creating my script I really enjoyed. I really enjoyed this because I felt that I knew exactly what I was doing. It also just had a flow to it, last the timing I actually enjoyed doing because I could hear what I was saying so I knew if it sounded weird so I could change it. Another thing I enjoyed was practicing. I don’t know, I just thought it was so much fun practicing and making it perfect. I also really enjoyed it when I was presenting in front of the class and got feedback so I could make my presentation better.

Even though I had some ups and downs during this project I still enjoyed it so much. It was so much fun because I could work with my classmates to give me feedback and listen to my presentation and help me make it better.

I am so excited about Monday. You might be wondering why Monday is special. Well on Monday we are recording our final project. I wonder how it is going to be on Monday, but the only thing I can do to make it perfect is to practice. The memorization for me was easy. But I will see what happens on Monday.

There were 3 different options of how to present your Caostine the options were Tedtalk, Ignite WeVideo. I decided to do a TedTalk, I choose a TedTalk for many reasons. One reason why I chose a TedTalk is that I could switch the slides and there wasn’t a specific time like the Ignite. I feel less worried when I can choose.

This project was so fun and amazing for me to do. I hope I get to do something similar in the future. I loved this so much because I could choose my own topic. On many projects like this, you don’t get to choose your topic, your topic usually surrounds an area like something you want to help with or like New york. I enjoyed this project that I could choose my topic. But I wish that capstone didn’t go by so fast, it went so fast.

Capstone Blog Post #2

So we are on blog post number two for our Capstone project. So if you don’t already know what Capstone is I will explain. So Capstone is a really big project for 5th grade. Capstone is when you pick a topic to do a presentation on, the final Capstone project could either be a ignite, tedtalk, imovie, or WeVideo. But before you start the final presentation you have to gather information and research. So we have note-taking slides for our notes and information we can keep track of the websites we use. We also did an interview which I am going to be talking about in this blog post.

I interviewed Robert Lowe, you might be thinking of the famous actor but no. My Capstone is about LEGO. Robert Lowe is Senior Global Director of LEGO Ventures. So what Robert really works for is LEGO’s gaming industry. What he does is tries to find new games for LEGO to buy and he creates games for LEGO, he also creates LEGO websites but many of them are not LEGO games, but some are. I also interviewed Robert because he didn’t only work at LEGO ventures. He does work at LEGO ventures now but before he had a few different jobs at LEGO. One of his jobs was to create websites for LEGO. One of them is a website where kids could upload things they had built and things kids came up with. It was like an Instagram but for LEGO creations.

I think doing the interview was a lot of fun. I think it was very fun because it was so interesting. I could barely talk because I was so stuck on listening. It was fascinating how much information he was giving me. It really helped me understand a lot more about LEGO. When I asked some of my questions I knew a tiny bit about the answer but Robert really expanded the answer so much and he made it so detailed. It was amazing how much he knew about it, really shocked me. I knew that he would know a lot but he gave so much I was truly truly amazed.

Here are my questions:

  1. How long have you worked for LEGO?
  2. What have been your different roles at LEGO?
  3. What was your favorite position or experience working for LEGO?  Why?
  4. What is the least favorite position or experience working for LEGO? Why?
  5. What are the major ways LEGO has evolved over time?
  6. How has LEGO’s marketing towards girls changed over the years?
  7. How has the company’s involvement with Lego Movies affected LEGO profits and popularity?
  8. What employees have helped LEGO to be successful? Why?
  9. What is one of LEGO’s most best/successful decisions? Why?
  10.  What is one of LEGO’s least successful/poorest decisions? Why?
  11. How have LEGO video games affected the company’s profits and popularity?
  12. How has Legoland affected the company’s profits and popularity?
  13. How does the internet affect LEGO?
  14. How has COVID affected LEGO?
  15. What else do you think I should know about LEGO?

I really enjoyed the interview part of Capstone. It was very fun. I hope I get to do an interview like this again. It felt very good to do this interview. My interview gave me a lot of information. It was very interesting and useful for my research. I am really excited to start my script and do my final presentation.

Rube Goldberg Blog Post #2

Today our Rube Goldberg was do. I think this project was very fun! There was one big problem in mine. So I was starting to test the whole thing, and I realized that I had to change it because it just wasn’t working. So I had this part when a ball was so posed to hit some books to create a domino effect. But the ball didn’t have enough power. So I had to change my whole ending of my Rube Goldberg. So what I did was that I made those dominos that were so posed to hit a ball instead they hit a small light notebook. The small notebook helped create the book domino effect. So in the end, it all worked out even tho there was a big struggle. My Rube Goldberg contraption was successful on the 9th try! I really enjoyed doing this project and I really like the results of my WeVideo I created. Overall this project was very fun for me!

CapStone Blog Post #1

CapStone also known as Capcon is a very big project for us. What CapStone is that you have one topic, my topic is LEGO. Then after you came up with your topic it’s time for the main inquiry question and sub-questions. Then after that, there’s research and then you make either a TedTalk, Ignite, or WeVideo with all of your information that you have gathered. Then you’re done. Right now we just finished our Main inquiry question and sub-questions. There is 1 main inquiry question and 5 or more sub-questions, but there are no fewer than 5 sub-questions. My main inquiry question is What are the key events that have contributed to Lego’s success as a company? I really hope this turns out good. But I think that going forward this project is going to be very fun.

Rube Goldberg Blog Post #1

In our Rube Goldberg project, we have to build a contraption that has a chain reaction, and it has to have over 8 steps. So far we have done the sketch of our Rube Goldberg contraption. I think that the sketch was very fun to create. But I think that it is going to be even more fun to build that actual contraption. But I am worried for my final contraption that my steps won’t work and they won’t create a chain reaction. But I think it will be really fun to build the final contraption. So far I have finished the sketch of my contraption and I got my items for the contraption. I think I will really enjoy building the contraption.

Reflection on Immigrant Video

I loved this project. My favorite part was actually making the immigrant video. I just think it was so much fun doing it. It felt like all the pieces were finally coming together. But it was also very hard I thought to make the immigration video. My pictures weren’t online so I had to scan them on an app every single photo and then I had to upload them to my drive. It might not sound complicated, but it was complicated.  But overall the video wasn’t that hard to create, to be honest. When I showed my Immigration video to my dad (the person I interviewed) he was amazed by the pictures I had found of him. It was very hard to complete this project because there were so many steps. Then with all of those steps, we created a short story about their life and their immigration story. It was really fun with this project and I really enjoyed it!

My Immigration Video

Reflection on Immigrant Interview

Right now we are doing an immigrant project, and we just finished the interview part. I thought that the interview was actually pretty interesting, I interviewed my Dad.  I asked him 15 questions and then he answered them. After we are going to create a video about their immigrant story. I noticed that I thought I knew what he was going to answer for some of the questions but I was totally wrong. He answered the opposite of what I thought. So the interview was very interesting for me to do. But I thought it was very excited to see what he was going to say. I am looking forward too to start making my video about my dad’s immigrant interview.
