Fantasy Reading Unit

We are about a week and a half not the fantasy reading unit. Basically it is a span of five weeks were we are only reading fantasy books. I decided to read the rest of the Heroes Of Olympus series. From book 3 to 5. I have finished book three in the series and I am about halfway through the my second book. I plan on finishing it by Saturday this week. I don’t remember exactly were I left of but I think I am around chapter 26. After we finish each of our books we have to write an analytical paragraph. It is basically just a mini essay. We also have a grade read aloud called Maximilian fly. I think it is a pretty good book. And I have come up with a lot of theories. So until next post, bye.

Struggles

I have had some struggles mainly with having enough information to fill out a decade on my slide show. But I have managed to sort it out be just milking one part of the slide or adding something extra like saying that a team won a constructors championship # amount of times.

Choosing a topic for my passion project.

For my 6th grade English class I have to do a passion project. We could do it on whatever we wanted, but somehow choosing was really hard. I spent two days just walking around trying to think of something. I tried to think of something while watching videos. And then it dawned on me just do it on the video you were watching. I was watching a Formula 1 video so that is what I choose. I ended sticking with this idea because I like F1 a lot but I don’t know much about it. Then I hade to think of questions to help guide my research this took some time,  longer than actually picking. I like history so I decided to combine those two things. I also like mechanical engineering, so I combined all of them the make the evolution of the F1 car. Now that I had that ready I just had to write a proposal to get the idea approved and we were good to go.

Here is the proposal: Continue reading

Welcome to 5th grade (5R)

My 5th grade year has begun I am looking forward to going to Philadelphia because I heard from past 5th graders that is was a very fun trip. I want to see the liberty bell and ring it if your allowed. And I am also really looking forward to doing the capstone project I think It will be the best part of the year.

By the end of the year I want to be a better and faster reader because right now I am quite slow. But hopefully my teacher can help me get better. I also want to become a better and more sophisticated writer with better vocabulary.

Colonial America Book Reflection

I liked the colonial book project. But it took to a long time here is the long process of the book. First we got plan books and set up our plan. Then we we went to library to learn how to do a citation. Then we used the websites and books that were provided to us. We had special times when we could use the books. We researched about our chapter 1 first for about 1 week then we started working on our chapter 2. It was a little stressful because when we looked through a new book we had to write the citation for the book. Then after we thought we had enough we wrote all the information on index cards. Then we wrote it all down on our yellow notepad and then we copied the text from the notepad and typed it up on the computer. Then we repeated this process until all of our text was typed up. Then our teacher checked it and after that we were allowed to paste it into our book presentation in slides. Then we went to computer lab to learn how to do a bibliography. Then we made our bibliography and glossary. Then we looked for pictures we could add. Then we added the pictures. Once we were all done with all that, we had to write a Colonial America Blog Post which is what you are reading now. So those were all the steps of the process.

The hardest part of the book was when we had to write all the citations. Because if we didn’t write the citation we could not use that information. My favorite parts of the process was writing this post. Because it was a nice change of pace from all the research and the non – fiction writing so this was my favorite. I also really liked typing and writing my chapter 3 because we got to be a little humorous with the text we wrote. I really liked creating the characters with also keeping some of the topic information.I learned that not everything is how it seems like I though colonial life was easy but I learned it’s really not. Like the colonist had to hunt for food and can’t really buy it. One thing I think I could have done differently is with taking more time to research. So I hope you enjoy my Colonial America Book.

Colonial Day

Last week my school had colonial day. My favorite activity was toys and games. Because we got to play with old fashion games. And we also didn’t have to work. I learned that colonial life was very hard but it could also be fun. Especially playing games with the toys. I want to know why they picked George Washington as the 1st president.
