Capstone Blog Post #3

For my capstone project, I decided to use a format that is like I’m sitting at an ESPN desk. I chose this format because I thought it would fit the whole idea of analyzing Larry Bird, like I would be a sports analyst. Some things I enjoyed most about my capstone project is coming up with my main inquiry question and sub questions because it is really interesting to start from ground zero on my capstone project. One of the challenges I encountered was finding an interview that qualified my capstone project.  I am looking forward to sharing my capstone project because I would then have ways to improve my capstone project.

We just finished the interview part of the project. My interview went really well, I got a lot of good information to research that would be really hard to find without that interview. My interviewee’s name is Tod and he is a local basketball coach that is really good at analyzing players. I thought he would be a perfect interviewee. He also plays streetball in New York City. He enjoyed the interview a lot and said it would be ok to call if I need more information. Overall this is one of the best interviews I’ve ever done. I also did reach out to former Teammates of Larry Bird or people that have watched him play in his career, but I did not hear back from the players or analysts which was disappointing.

So far we have completed a very important step in our capstone project. A capstone project is basically a topic or the main question you’re excited about and want to research. My main question is: What are the three most important athletic attributes of Larry Bird that contributed to his Hall of Fame career with the Boston Celtics? I choose this topic because of the Boston Celtics and Larry Bird is one of my favorite basketball players and I love Basketball, Boston, and the Celtics so of course, it’s about Larry Bird! I think this topic is a good topic it’s not too narrow not too broad.

Rocketry Reflection

I thought that going into this rocketry unit it would not be super fun. We first started with a challenge that Ms. Robert gave to us this challenge was hard but once we finished it gave me a big morale boost. Then we started making our inspiration board where we had to put our rocketry skills to the test, we studied Isaac Newtown and his three laws of motion. We made our rocket short and fat we chose that because then it would have more weight and if it was windy it wouldn’t blow over and move as much. The jobs for launch one were Theo – pump, Leo – video, Chloe – launcher, Katie – the countdown. We launched our first launch was 28.5 meters in the air. If I could change anything I would change the nose cone and that is what we ended up doing. Launch 2 jobs Theo – launcher, Leo – video, – Chloe – countdown, Katie – pump. Our second launch was 27.5. We went lower our change did not do a lot. Here is my video, I hope you enjoy.
