Identity Bags and Maps

Identity bags are bags full of objects that represent you, your interests, and even your possessions. I enjoyed doing identity bags because it let us share a tiny part of ourselves with our classmates, I liked this because there are some things that don’t reveal themselves during the school year. One example is that I had no idea that Gabe Co-piloted a plane, or that Ryan did taekwondo. It was also fun being able to show people some of your talents, like a trophy or a medal, or even an object. Also you get to ask people questions and learn more about them as a person. Overall I really enjoyed this project, and definitely would like to do it more in the future.

Identity maps was really fun and interesting because we kinda got to learn about ourselves, because there is a lot of things I had to think about to fill in all of the space. So it kind of reminded us of stuff we forgot about. One example is I had to think “What color are my eyes?”. I also learned a lot about my classmates, just like in the identity bags. As fun as it was there was also a few challenges like when I had five left and I could not think of anything so I had to really think about other things that define me.

Research Projects

In reading, we have been studying how to research using the research process. My animal study group researched coyotes. Our subtopics were Pups, What is a Coyote, Hunting and howling/communication. We organized our books from easiest to hardest, then we found the topics that appeared in most of the books and those became our subtopics. The most important thing that I learned about the research process was how to put facts you found into your own words.

After this project, we took everything we learned about research and used that in our country research project. I chose to study China with my partner. We used the Heathcote databases, our own knowledge and a book called “China” by Ted Park to study the different cultural universals of China. The cultural universals are: Politics, Social Aspects, Economics, Beliefs, and Cultural Arts. Once we finished researching and putting it in whichever category it fit into. We put all of our research in a Comic Tour Guide Book titled “The Cultural Universals of China.” My favorite part of the project was coming up with lines that my character would say. The most challenging part of the project was finding the right images to fit my project.

Movie day

“Get up!” our dad shouts in our ear.

“Uhh,” we moan as we roll out of bed.

“I can’t wait to go to camp!” my brother screams like somebody clicked a button in his head to wake him up. Slowly we ate breakfast got changed, brushed our teeth and hopped in the car. when we got there we trudged to the stop hugged my brother bye. And he hopped on the bus and he was off. The bus stop was filled with hands waving rapidly and dogs tugging on their leashes trying to go with the kids in the bus. There was also parents screaming last good byes. After the bus was out of sight me and my dad hauled our sweaty feet to the car. In the car I asked him if we could go bowling.

“Maybe” he says (which usually means no)

“Can we go to the movies?”

“No!” he says until the afternoon the rest of the day was boring.

“Ved get your socks and shoes on we are going to the movies.”

“What?” I jumped I was spacing out from the blistering heat.

”Which movie?” I said.

“The one you wanted to watch ‘Captain Underpants.’”

“Cool,” we drove through the midday traffic and headed for the movies. We park in the nearest parking lot which is three blocks away. And we walk to the theater. First we go to the ticket booth and buy tickets. Then we go to the counter and ask for popcorn. We can hear the “pop” “pop” “pop” of the popcorn machine and the buttery smell of the popcorn being made. Ohh I can’t wait to eat that popcorn I think.

“Here you go,” says the cashier

“Thank you!” we say gobbling the popcorn. “When we sit down in the theater?” I ask.

“We should save the popcorn for the movie.”

“Nahh.” we say at the same time

My Expert Book – 3L

This is my Expert Book for people who have not studied  World War 2 before. I chose this topic because when I was selecting my topic I thought about the book that I read to learn more about World War 2 called “World War 2 Magic Tree House Fact Tracker.” Then I thought about how I like to talk about things I know about World War 2 at the dinner table and so I thought it would be fun to write a book about World War II. It was. The part I enjoyed most in this project was writing the chapter on D-Day and Pearl Harbor. I liked writing these chapters because when I know a lot about something and then I talk about it, it makes me feel good. It was challenging to do the photo selection because it is hard to find out what picture to pick for your writing so I made sure to pick the very best. I hope you like my book.

My book is called Learn All About World War II. Here it is…
