Technology 9

Today in class we are watching a movie about a soccer team getting stuck in a cave in Thailand. The reason we are watching this is  because our flashlights need to be water proof, and at the beginning of this unit Mr.Calvert told us about the story. About how these boys were stuck in the cave for weeks. Luckily when they came out none of the team died but one of the rescuers died. Only one! It’s very sad that the rescuer died but considering what they went through and how many people were in the water/ the cave, that’s amazing!

This is my newer one that is more detailed and is what I’m measuring

This is the first general sketch.

we learned how to sketch our flashlight and how to measure. Above ⬆️ Are my two sketches we have drawn.

We now are making flashlights. Our flash light has to be smaller then around a foot. Others and I decided to make similar designs. Originally I wanted to do something where my switch can be size adjustable but then I remembered the fact that they have to be water proof and when you would adjust the size there would end up being a whole. So now we are doing a flashlight that will work, simple, and is water proof. In class we have started doing a sketch of our design. As we design we have to pretend as if we have x-ray vision, which means if we put in a connector then we have it draw the part that’s inside that connects the parts together. I cant wait to start building!

Tech post 1: Breakout!

On Thursday, September 5, the 6th grade Butler tech quarter 1, just did a game called, Breakout! Breakout is a game when the class is split in half there is one chest type of thing that you try unlocking but there’s not just one lock there’s not just two locks but there are three locks! My team and I locked on top in under around on almost everything in the tech room! Though our team was a done a few minutes after we still worked very well as a team and it was a very fun experience!!

At the beginning of the class we were asked on our ipads to make a circuit using one switch, three lights and one resistor. It was very fun because it was fun to try out different ideas to see which idea worked best! Then we had to think of several switches. I limited it down to my top three. One of my top three was this: two wooden sticks, each end has a piece of metal, when u push the wooden sticks together the light will go on. I really liked this one because it was very different from all of my other ideas. If you would like to see pictures of my project then come back!

I just found out that our next project is how to work a circuit. I am really excited for this project because we get to design our switches and I’m very creative. I have several ideas about what I am going to do but I can only do three. I’m very excited to try them out and see which one works the best! Once we finish our circuits we are attaching alligator clips to each side of the metal, touch them together, then a light will go on! I cant wait to start this new project!

I just finished my zip tie. It loos very cool and very detailed. My favorite part about this project was melting the metal together. I thought it smelled really good and it was really fun to do. One of my struggles was when I was molding the metal, it ended up not being like how I wanted it so I had to restart the entire project. Overall this project was very fun! Stay tuned!

Technology post #2

We started making designs on paper, the drawing could only have 5 lines at most. Two other friends and I decided to make a matching drawing. We choose to do waves. Later on we were informed that what we were making is going to later be jewelers. The piece can either be on a necklace or a bracelet. We are making it into a bracelet. I cant wait to see the final product of the bracelet! Ill show you what the final product looks like!

Capstone 7

Hello! I am so excited because I presented my capstone project! I presented to both my class and a kindergarten class so far. I am filming my capstone today and I am no longer nervous because I have experience from presenting to a crowd. I personally enjoy😀 presenting because I want people to know how hard I worked! I used a prop, I used a yoga ball. My favorite thing about presenting is that I teach someone something and they get to learn! I feel good and proud when I present because I feel very accomplished.

Im both very glad and sad that I have finished capstone. I am glad because I feel I have don

e very well in this project but I am sad because it was such an amazing experience and project, and because I have been looking forward to this project for 6 years and its now done! I hope in middle school we get to do a project similar to capstone.  fingers crossed 🙌!

Thanks,

Very Vanessa
