Gol is a cow, but Katherine Applegate (author of Home of The Brave) also uses her as a symbol. How does Gol represent Kek’s past, present, and possibly his future?  

Gol represents Kek’s past because Gol used to be happy too and Kek used to be happy too when he was in Africa not worrying about anything else happily herding the cows. And Gol represents Kek’s present life because they both lost a lot and they will never be the same after the experiences they have faced, Gol is more weary and Lou’s husband also died and Kek’s dad and brother died and Kek’s mother can’t even be found, they both lost a lot during their experiences.
