This year I’m doing a Capstone! Capstone is a research project that 5th graders make. Capstone has been a really big part of 5th grade so I’m nervous and excited at the same time.

For the topic of my research project, I chose chocolate. I chose chocolate because I love it and I wanted to know more about it. I made a chart that displayed all the possible “branches” of chocolate that I could study. I listed everything from history to geography to popularity. I ended up choosing the category “health and chocolate”.

I decided to make my driving research question “how does chocolate affect the body?” I wasn’t interested in any products like cocoa butter shampoo benefits or other stuff so I had my question focused on the body.

My subquestions were simple to make, I listed different possibilities. Some of my subquestions are “how does chocolate affect the blood?” and “how does chocolate affect mood?” I struggled with coming up with subquestions because I couldn’t think of anything related to my main question except things that were almost the same as my inquiry question.

I’m so excited about this project and I’m learning so much. I’m even getting an interviewee! Yay!
