answering you main inquiry question

About two months ago we started capstone. capstone is a big project where you choose a topic that you are interested in and reaserch  it. then I wrote and essay about my topic. then I  shortened my essay into a script. I used my script to make  my final TED talk. I am really happy with how my project turned out so here it is:

this is my essay

You all know what the Holocaust is, but do you know what happend to the suvivors?  Do you think about them? Well I do. That led me to my main inquiry question “what impact did the holocaust have on the survivors.”  my main inquiry question led me to five sub – questions “ what were some factors in the jews being targeted by the Nazis, what physical impacts did the Hocaust have on survivors, what mental impact did the holocaust have on the jewish survivors, how did the Holocaust influence immigration of jewish families, and what kinds of reperations were given to the jewish survivors”

What were some factors in the jews being targeted by the nazis?

Adof Hitler believed there was no room in society for jews. Adof hitler ruled germany form 1933 to when he committed sucide in 1945. Germany lost really bad in World wAr One so the jews were blamed. Germany had to pay A lot of money to other countries from world war one so the jews were also blamed for the problems in their economy. Hitler believed Jews were not “real Germans.” Jews had been viewed differently for a while.

What were some physical effects of the holocaust survivors?

Unfortunately  some people faced something known as “survivors syndrome” or “concentration camp syndrome” this basically mean they have overwhelming stress from the holocaust. Some survivors became obeese because of starvation. This seems pretty strange but it is true. Many survivors developed eating disorders which as a result made them obeese.According to  91 year old Eva Deutsch Costabel who survived the holocaust said “My friends always tease me because my refrigerator is always full. They say,You could feed ten people. I think this is definitely from starving for many years”.  Also “the average holocaust survivors lost 60 lbs in the camps.” that is a lot of weight los. For example, if you weighed 140 lbs before going in a concentration camp you could end up weighing 80 lbs if you survive. Holocaust survivors also have higher rates of osteoporsis. osteporsis is when the bones become  weak and brittle. When survivors where in the camps they looked like living skeletons because the had no fat on their body due to starvation. Alll of this showes how holocaust survivors suffered.

What were some mental effects?

Well some a lot of people suffered because they could not forget the holocaust. For example david ginsberg I interviewed said “my parents would often get depressed at times.” there were also higher rates of suciside. According to the Jerusalem Post “Women who fled to Palestine during the Holocaust were 4.6 times more likely to commit suicide than those who came before World War II.” some people became paranoid. According to David Ginsberhg who I interviewed “my parents swerve scared of authority figures.” Some people suffered from schizophrenia. Schizophrenia isn when someone view reality in a not normal way. Did you know that in 1998 there were 700 schizophrenia cases from survivors. Some survivors faced survivors guilt. Survivors guilt is when you survive a life threatening situation when others don’t. Some survivors had low self esteem. Some survivors did not want to talk about the holocaust. David ginsberg who I interviewed said “my parentas did not talk about the holocaust that much. Did you know that holocausrt survivors living in Israel have less mental problems them survivors living anywhere else.

How did the holocaust influense immigration of the jews?

Some holocaust survivors were scared of there being another holocuast. Most of the holocuast survivors moved to ZP camps. DP stands for displaced person. A Lot of the DP camps were in america. Did you know that in 1947 the DP population reached 250,000. Countries limited the number of jewish refugees. Many countries even closed their i mmigration borers. In poland in 1946 41 jewish holocaust survivors were killed and 50 were hurt. As a result made the jews leave poland. Many jews were just done with europe so they left to start a new life somewhere else. In 1948 congress passed and act allowing 200,000 D.Ps to come to America. IN 1948 the state of israel was established because the jews wanted their own country so they could freely practice their religion.

What were some reparations Given to the jews?

Did you know germany started paying reparations to the jews in the 1950s and they are still paying them back today. reparations are money given to a country or a person that another group made suffer so basically they are being paid money to help repair their lives. In 2019 400,000 holocuast survivors were alive Germany paid $567 million that year. Claims conference is a jewish organization that manages payments to holocaust survivors. Claims conference was started in 1951. Some russian jews who survived the attacks of leningrad were paid reparations. They receive an annual amount of  $5,200.If you think this is A lot of money for just one attack well then your wrong this attack lasted 2 years.one 80 year old russian jew remembers people were starving during these attacks. Raisa Khusid said of her uncle, “He was really going outside after the rain to collect the worms” For them to eat.

I learned how the holocust impacted the survivors. I learned this from my main inquiry question which is “how did the holocust impact the survivors.” my five sub-questions helped me answer this question they are “what were some factors in the jews being targeted by the nazis, what were some mental effects the holocaust had on the survivors, what were some pysical effects the holocaust had on the suvivors, what kinds of reperations were given to holocaust survivors, and how did the holocaust influence the immigration of Jews living in eorope.
