Extreme Weather Reflection

When I originally started working on my weather project, I didn’t want my topic to be on tornadoes. Like everyone else in my class, I wanted to research tsunamis. But eventually I decided that it didn’t really matter about what group I got. I had to rock-paper-scissors someone for my subtopic, which was prevention and safety. But I was nervous as I didn’t have a lot of information on it.

Researching was way more challenging than I had expected. I only found one website that mentioned safety about tornadoes. I used only one book and one website, but both of them had a lot of information to share. It was fun to research for information, but also very challenging. I found more information on the website than the book. However, they both provided a lot, so I had to be very particular with what I chose to keep. But that wasn’t a struggle for me.   All I had to do was just look at my notes and then type it down. Sure, it took a long time, and it was harder than it seemed to find pictures that supported my work, but it still was still easy.

I did however, struggle with memorizing all of the information I found, as well as finding the information on my subtopic. Tornadoes are well-known natural disasters, so you might think it was easy to find information, but since my subtopic is prevention and safety, it was super hard to do that.

Memorizing was definitely my biggest struggle! I could never seem to get it right and I thought that I would never fully memorize my slides. I felt sad because the people in my group had three and four slides, meanwhile I struggled with only having two slides. I didn’t speak loud enough when I first rehearsed in front of my class, but it was easily fixed! Rehearsing at home was a lot easier because it was way quieter there. But in the end, I persevered and did a great job!

Persuasive Writing Process

Aside

My Reflection on the process:

When I made my slideshow about how people should stop smoking, it was really easy for me even though it took more than two months. My slideshow had to be about something I was passionate about, so I chose my topic to be to stop smoking. I decided to write down all the facts I knew about smoking to help me with this project. Making a slideshow about smoking was very easy for me because since smoking is so popular, it makes it easy to gather information. Doing this project was not hard for me. It was actually very fun and exciting for me. When I reviewed my slideshow, I was proud of my work. Some of the pictures were hard to find, but if I couldn’t find any pictures, I just added words to match my speaking. For some of the pictures I couldn’t add, it was also hard to find pictures to match my speaking. I had a template to write the information about smoking stuff that I knew. Then I combined it in my slideshow and the results were amazing. Even though doing this wasn’t hard, making this was still hard work for me. I enjoyed doing this very much!

My Essay on Smoking:

Why We should Stop Smoking

Did you know that smoking one cigarette can take 11 minutes off of your life?  I know you might think ‘Smoking isn’t that bad’ but it is way worse than you think.

I know I am just a kid, but I firmly believe smoking hurts both people that smoke and people that don’t. For example, people who smoke (consumers) don’t know that the harmful air they make by smoking goes into nonsmokers’ bodies which causes them to get really sick. I remember walking around New York City and seeing a lot of people smoking near non-smokers. The nonsmokers started coughing and waving their hands in their face. The nonsmokers were quickly walking away. Also, I saw a lot of people who were coughing and sneezing because of other people smoking. This proves that seeing people smoke is common and many people have seen other people smoke. Another example is that consumers didn’t get an education, so they don’t know how harmful it is for nonsmokers and themselves. Not getting an education is also bad for nonsmokers because they can walk past a consumer many times without knowing what will happen to them.

Second of all, cigarettes are deadly. One example of why is because if you smoke for at least five months the air in your lungs could get contaminated and you could get sick and it could lead to lung cancer. Another example is that it weakens the ozone layer and the ozone layer protects us from global warming. People could die because global warming is bad for us. Also, cigarettes have a toxic mix of over 7,000 chemicals, including more than 70 that can cause cancer. Lastly, because smoking is addictive, once you start smoking you can’t stop smoking. It’s like candy for children. If children eat too much candy they will get sick and they will get a lot of cavities. For smoking, it’s bad if you do it because you’ll get sick but even worse than candy, you’ll die with too much. It’s better for children though because they are aware that it’s bad for you and children don’t feel good after eating too much so they stop so smoking is way worse. My last example for all of this is that people who are consumers forget about how dangerous it is to smoke because smoking is addictive for people so they continue.

Infographic on Burundi

I chose to study Burundi because it’s a poor country with not a lot of resources. Burundi had a lot of information I could use. It may have been a random choice, but I wanted to do something that no one else would even think of doing because I wanted my infographic to be extraordinary. Burundi is way more poor than you might think. I know I don’t have exactly a good reason why I chose Burundi for this, but it still was really fun. It may look like it was really easy to make this, but it was way harder than you think! I started this off with a bunch of words, but then I realized an infographic is where you have to explain about your country in mostly words! When I realized that, doing this seemed a lot easier. I had to do a lot of research to do this project even though it may not seem like that. I had to delete most of the words from my infographic because it has to, of course, be made up of mostly words. Doing this was challenging, but I soon got the hang of it.  I had to work on this project for a really long time but it was totally worth it! What I liked about doing this was that it was fun, but still challenging. Doing this was an amazing experience and I put my heart into making this!

My Expert Book: Going to the Zoo

I wrote this book because it was really fun to write and it was also fun for me in real life! Thinking of what to write was really hard and it was almost impossible for me to think of anything. My favorite part of making the book was adding the cover and adding the pictures on the slideshow because looking for them was fun. I enjoyed it so much. When I was looking for a picture, I noticed one that looked really cool! When I pressed the slideshow, it looked so much cooler and I loved it. I learned lots of facts while making the book which was really fun for me! I had to hurry on finishing the paper book about it because my teacher said that. All I had to do was staple the paper and add the cover until I would be finished. I finally finished my paper book when I had to do another project but that isn’t what I’m talking about! I felt really great when I finished my book because no one would tell me “ Hurry up!” anymore! I was also really happy when I finished because it was exhausting and stressful. I loved my cover of the paper book because it looked so cool and totally awesome! I was happy to make it and making the slideshow was also fun. I did the slideshow part in tech and then wrote the book in my class which I think was easier.

This is my expert book.
