The County Board of Legislators

Have you ever wondered what you do in being a legislator? Well, then read more on my blog post. It is all about what we did on our field trip in being a legislator, and what we really enjoyed. If you want to learn more, keep reading my blog post! 

Two things I learned about the legislative branch of county government was we learned how to discuss a bill and vote on a bill. One reason why I liked discussing a bill is that first we were all debating on the same thing which was a bill so we can all share our opinions. We were discussing school uniforms for the bill with chair Lucy being our chairperson. She let us speak one by one. I said “They do not need to be wearing school uniforms because they can express what they like, not what other people like”. Sometimes it was hard to debate but most of us found a way to express what we think on what it should be. Another thing was voting on a bill we discussed on junk food. After we finished debating we all had to vote on if they should ban junk food. We could say Yes, No, Yea, and Nea most of us said nea but there is a balance to all of the junk food.

The Two things I enjoy the most of taking the role of the legislative is participating in the role of debating in the conference room and participating in being in the chamber of being a legislator. One reason why I like being a legislator and debating in the conference room was because at first we all started to discuss the school uniforms and taking turns to speak when chair Lucy called on us legislators. It was really cool seeing the conference room and fun! After chair Lucy called on all of us we all discussed and debated on it like we were actually in a real meeting with real stuff they have to debate on. I really liked being in the conference room. It was really fun! Also another thing why I really like being a legislator was because at first we got in the chamber and discussed as a real legislature. We were debating about junk food. Chair Dean called on us to speak. We spoke in these microphones to project our voices. It was really cool. We are all debating on something different like yea and nea on junk food. I think it was really cool seeing what a real legislature does. I think being a legislator is a hard job but it is also really fun being in the role of the legislator in the chamber and the conference room.

Overall, the two things I learned in the legislative branch of this county was to discuss a bill and vote on a bill. They were both fun to do. I also like sharing my opinion on two reasons why I liked taking the role of the legislative which was  debating in the conference room and being the role of the legislative in the chamber. First Week of 5th Grade

My head is down on the table and I’m waiting patiently for someone to put my finger down. At least I hope I get chosen.”Tap!” I got my finger put down. Yay! I thought to myself.”Ok class, thumbs down, heads up, let’s play seven up! If you get picked, stand up,” The teacher said. I stood up waiting and waiting until finally, it was my turn to guess who tapped me. “ Okay, who do you think chose you Lexi?” My teacher asks me. “I choose you,” I point to one of my friends. Yes!!! I got it right!! Now I get to put someone else’s finger down! In this blog post , you will learn about what I liked the first week of school, like 100 index card challenge and heads up seven up. You will also learn what I am looking forward to this school year, like hotdog field day and the ropes course. I can’t wait to tell you more about it!

Two things I enjoyed the first  week were the index card challenge and the heads up seven up. One reason why I like the index card challenge was because You had 100 index cards and you had to make yours the tallest but you only had 15 minutes. That was the challenge. We had groups and what we did for our group is we folded the index card in the middle to be still. It was hard and fun to do because you had to get your index card the highest to win and I like a challenge so it was very fun! Also I really like heads up seven up. There were seven people that stood up and the rest had their heads down. The seven people that are going around the room are going to put their heads down and the people who have their heads down. They put their heads up and the seven people when they are walking around the room will put one person’s thumb down. So not everyone will get their thumbs put down. Only seven people will get picked and then if you get picked you stand up and guess who picked you and if you got it correct the person who picked you will switch places and if you get it wrong you don’t do anything you just sit back down. That is why I really liked it a lot!

Two things that I am looking forward to is the 5th grade hot dog field day and the field trip to the rope course. One reason what I am looking forward to is  hot dog field day because there are teams and your teams are your classes and you get to play all these fun games like kickball relay races and more another reason why i am also looking forward to it is because you can only have field day as a 5th grader so i am really happy about that because now i am a 5th grader and you also get to have hotdogs for lunch and it is going to be super fun! Also another thing i am really looking forward to is the rope course because i love rope courses and challenges because i love having a challenge and going on high and fun stuff like rope courses I could not wait for this because this is also a 5th grade thing and so i have been also waiting for this so i think it is going to be very fun!

Overall, what I liked about the first week of school was heads up seven up and the 100 index card challenge. They were both fun . I also liked sharing my opinion on what I am looking forward to at the end of the year like the ropes course and hot dog field day. What do you like the most a heads up seven up or 100 index card challenge? What do you look forward to the most, rope course or hotdog field? I bet you would like all of them!

 

Messing Up Can Be Difficult

Have you ever wondered if messing up can be difficult? Well actually it happens probably every day but, you don’t know when. Sometimes messing up can get you mad and that is what causes you to mess up. Like when you are going through a hard time on that day that can cause you to mess up. Also that’s what I have experienced when I have messed up. In a  big group of audience members in gymnastics. Also at camp when getting blamed on something I did not do. Sometimes you can’t tell when you mess up. That could be difficult so I will give you 2 examples about some things that have happened in my life.

When I do gymnastics I mess up and it could get me annoyed like on the beam, floor vault, and bars all the events so let me give you an example. I remember when I was in the states last year far away. I messed up on my floor and I was devastated because I never mess up on my handstand forward roll. I thought it was for me cause it was embarrassing and I never wanted to show my face again but on top of that I saw my score and it was not the best. I really wanted to cry but I knew I was strong about it. It was still not fun because I have never done this but my mom told me “People always make mistakes.”

Another example is when I am having drama with my friends. This is a big thing that really gets to me because when you are in it you can’t get yourself out of it.  Also everybody can blame lots of stuff on you when you did not do it so let me tell you. I remember at camp when we were deciding what to do. For our art group project, we had drama because we could not decide what to do since it was a thing they did every year. So we decided on something that everyone decided on. Then a girl changed her mind.  Then the girl cried because she did not agree with it and blamed it on me and 2 other people. That made me feel like I messed up because I didn’t do it. When she was saying I messed up everything when our counselors said that is what we are doing. I did not like that she said I messed up everything because it makes me feel bad for myself that I did not do anything.

I realize that messing can be difficult. That’s why I used you two examples. That I think will help you to know when you mess up. I think that messing up is ok and that’s why I used two examples but then felt better at the end because I learned from them. Every time and moment you mess up you learn from them and that is the best part of messing up because you get better and better every time!                                      

Persuasive writing

Essay

Each day people around the world throw trash onto the ground. You might be wondering, “yeah so? Why should I care about what other people do? Can’t others care?” The truth is, the trash is ruining our environment and one day will be the reason that the Earth no longer exists. We only have one Earth and we need to be the people to take care of it forever. People need to stop littering at once! 

 

One reason why people should not be littering is because plastic can harm the animals that live on earth. For example, plastic parts thrown into the oceans can get stuck in animals’ throats or noses. Sea turtles experience this often. They see things floating in the ocean such as plastic straws and try to eat them. These plastic straws get stuck in their throat or parts of their noses and harm them. I know what you’re probably thinking, “well I have never litered before, so this isn’t my problem,” but trust me you have probably had something blow away that you didn’t run after, or have missed the trash can and never picked it back up. If you’ve done this, then you have littered and are adding to the problem. One possible solution to stop plastic or garbage getting into our oceans is by cleaning up after yourself and making sure that you put everything in the garbage bins. 

 

Another reason why people should not be littering is because litter pollutes the air and things in the ground. For example, when we pour chemicals on the group it can evaporate and condense in the clouds before it rains down on people. Sometimes these chemicals can create acid rain. This rain is not good for us. Do not put any dangerous chemicals on the ground. It can also pollute the food we eat such as vegetables and fruits. 

 

Lastly, people should not be littering because it makes towns not clean and less safe for kids. You might be wondering, “why would it be unsafe for kids?” Well imagine your child playing outside that has garbage all over the place and while they are playing they pick up something sharp and dangerous and it cuts them, or they eat dirty food on the ground, they would get hurt or very sick. You would not want your child playing with trash.

 

This is why I think people should NOT liter ANYWHERE!

Reflection

I picked my topic People should not be littering because if we keep on littering something bad can happen so I really wanted to get out a message in the world that people should not litter. What I enjoyed about this is when we got to record it because we got to speak about it and how we imagined people would read it I also licked the pictures because we can decide what one fits out the best when people are reading it. What was difficult was writing because we needed to restart and make sure it was the best we ever did.

My Expert Book: Dogs

I came up with the idea to write about dogs for my expert book because dogs are my favorite animal. I just got a dog and I was so happy when my dog Ollie arrived at my home! The process of writing the expert book took a while. It took three months. The reason why it was hard is you might think you know alot about the topic but, you might not know as much about the topic as you thought. I needed to do some more research. One of my favorite parts about writing and organizing my expert dog was learning how to place the pictures. I realized that I had to find the pictures and make the pictures match the writing.

Personal Narrative – The Camp!

Honk, honk! 

It was time to tour camp Silver Lake and Chipinaw. We were supposed to go last month but we didn’t because we had other things to do. So we are going today! We gathered our things, got in the car and headed out. It took us about two hours to get there. 

When we finally arrived I was feeling a little scared. “Woah,” I said to myself. “What if the campers don’t like me? Would they be mean? What if I hurt myself while I’m here? Would I miss my parents? At least I have my twin….”

Just then, Sophia pulled me out of my thoughts. “Um, I’m a little scared,” Sophia muttered softly. 

“Come on Sophia, it’s not like we’re sleeping here tonight. We’re just touring. Besides, we’ll be here together. Now, let’s go, we are going to be late,” I said. 

“Ok…..” she said, unsure that she wanted to be here.

 

When we arrived at the main office, we opened the doors and headed in. “Hello!” the tour guide said, surprising us both.

“Hello,” Sophia said back. I was surprised that she said hello because I thought she was going to be a little shy at first.

 

The tour guide said that we are going to drive a golf cart. “Yay,” I said with a smile on my face. When we went in the golf cart she said that there are treats for us. I can”t wait to start this tour!!!

First we went to the Chipinaw side. They share a camp so things can be on the other side. We saw the horses, then we saw the gym. Next, we saw softball, flag football and even hockey. My favorite and Sophia’s favorite is gymnastics. “Ok, we’ve looked at Chipinaw. Now we need to look at Silver Lake,” I shouted.

 

We went inside, cool air was flowing on my face “There are the bunk’s!” I screamed.

 

When we went back in the golf cart we saw the pool and tube lake. The pool had a water slide and the lake had a bounce house. The guide told us that we are going to go to the world’s largest water park in Pennsylvania and a roller coaster park too. WOW!!!!

When It was finally time to go, we said goodbye and she said goodbye back.

“This is awesome, I love this camp,” Sophia raised her voice. 

“I told you you were going to like this camp,” I said jokingly as we got in the car. Everybody was laughing at my joke.
