My Capstone Experience

You’re in front of a lot of people, your hands are sweaty, public speaking is not your thing. You’re trying to remember your lines. Well this is Capstone. Have you ever done Capstone? Well I had to. It is a project that you do at the end of fifth grade. By now I think you are wondering what my topic is. It is Artificial Intelligence.I had to do so many things for example do research, write an essay, make a script template, and present the final product. You could choose a ted talk or a WeVideo. I chose TED Talk.

Ok now let’s go back to the start of capstone you have to choose a topic that you’re interested in and something you don’t know that much about as you know I chose AI. So for the first part of the research this process was long and took two weeks. As you can tell this part is really important because if you don’t have the research then what are you going to present? I had to research my sub questions that mean stuff to help me answer my big question. My sub questions were who and how was AI created, what was AI like when it first started, what are the major ways it has changed, how is AI advancing, and how is AI being used today in schools, businesses, and everyday use? I used a lot of resources such as books and websites. There wasn’t anything that was too hard but some information was hard to find.

The essay. A long writing piece is long and takes a long time. It is meant to put everything together and when I put mine together I found out that I think that AI will change so much more than it already is. For some stuff that was challenging I think it was the typing, and putting all my research together. It was nice that we had A week to do the essay. It was not that hard we already had the research we just put it in. But the one thing that made it harder was it had to be three pages and mine was not so I had to do more research and that annoyed me because research is hard. Script template. It is where I shorten my essay down. I hate this so much because we did all the hard work to do the research and that took two weeks to do. But it needed to be under six minutes because you did not want people to be staring at someone talking for ten minutes. Like I said you can do a WeVideo or a TED Talk. And I chose TED Talk but why. I wanted to do it because I did a WeVideo and it took a long time to make. I did not do a TED Talk so that is why. If you would like to see my script template click here.       

After all this work I am almost done. It is time for the final product. But there is so much more work you need to make a slideshow. It is not that hard but it might take a while. It is about twenty slides long. Memorizing it took me a while but you wrote it you should know it. But after a while I got it and I just need to practice for a little bit so I have it fully in my brain. And I need to present it. I got this. It is my end of fifth grade project so I should be great and I am great.

All and all, Capstone was a good experience to do a big project and it will help for middle school. And it is so much fun to learn facts from others and they will learn from yours.

Immigrant Video Reflection

For school we needed to do a project of Interviewing an immigrant. I did my dad. I made questions and asked him them and it went well and in this blog post you will learn how I created the video and what I learned and read on to see if it went as good as my first blog post.

Creating the video was fun but also challenging. The script was hard because you needed to time yourself reading it and put the seconds in the script. The part that was easy with the script was taking parts from your narrative and putting it into your script. In WeVideo it was easy to find the Images but Sometimes they didn’t have the images I was looking for so I went to search the web and I had to go into creative commons and I found what I was looking for. The voice over is when you record it, it wasn’t that hard. 

I learned some things about this project. One of them is that I learned to make a video which might help me a lot when I go into middle school, high school, And maybe even college. Next is Doing the interview. I will have to do an interview for capstone and maybe many more things Such as doing one as a grown up. And I didn’t really learn that much about the immigrant, my dad because he is my dad. I already know so much about him.

In conclusion, that was me making a story about how I made a story about my dad and his immigration

Immigrant Interview Reflection

Are you an Immigrant? Well I had to do a project about it and I did my dad. He came from England when he moved here with my mom. In this article it has my preparation for the interview and doing it. It was a good experience learning to do things.   

I had to do a lot of things to prepare for the Interview. One thing was I had to think about the questions I asked him because he is my dad. I already know so much about him so I did not want to ask him where you were born or when you were born. I got some questions from the Heathcote gateway on Mrs. Cooper’s page There were a lot of questions on it but I did not use all of them. I highlighted on my chrome book the first questions were red, the second were orange, and last but not least the last were blue. One of my questions was did you have a hard time immigrating if so why. With all of this information I was prepared.

The interview was easy because it was in person and I just asked him the questions and he responded and I typed them so it is not that hard. It went as expected and I had no problems but he came home from Miami, Florida so he might have been tired. I learned to take time don’t rush because if you rush you won’t have good information.  Learned more about my dads life before I came along. Doing this work I feel ready to do my capstone interview. So this helped me a lot and it was easy.

In conclusion, I had to prepare for the article and do it and it was easy. It was a great experience.

 

Nice Curling

The stone gets in the center, it’s curling, a Scottish sport where people are on ice and slide stones. The goal of the game is to get the stone in the circle. I had a field trip to go curling and I can’t wait and I want to see how different it is at school and at the field trip.  

It’s F day you have P.E. that stands for physical education. It’s curling and you can’t wait, I thought to myself that this was a great time. But we needed to watch videos about curling and the fun hadn’t even started yet. It is the next P.E. day we were still bummed that we did not do any games with the stones but we got to slide around on carpet squares.The next day we learned how to use the stones and slide them around. It reminded me of kicking a soccer ball and it rolling around. They were not real stones but they were shaped and ball bearings at the bottom but they were still fun. We learned how to push off of something we used mats but at the field trip we would push off a starting block that would be in ice. Then we put it all together, it was hard at first but we got used to it. We would slip and fall so many times but we would always get back up and try again. 

The day has come it is the field trip. It was so exciting I jumped out of bed, and I got to school. It was going to be a good day. I did my first special then it was time I got on the bus. The drive was 25 minutes. It felt so long and we had to go up these squiggly hills. Then we had to walk down this big steep hill then we came in and saw the other class curling. The instructors told us to go where and made our groups, my group was Zoe, Josh, Dillon, and me. I thought that this was going to be a really good team. Our instructor made us try to push off the starting block. I went first and the stones were heavy and we needed to hold something that would not make us lose balance. We had to use brooms to sweep. We met our competitors and we lost their stone was the closest. It was okay though we lost two to one and we shook hands and said good curling. 

There, now you know all about my experiences with curling at school and at the field trip. Curling will take a while to get good at but that is why people of all ages can do it. So if you are near a curling club it is a great experience.    

 

Feature Article Reflection

Have you ever written an article? I have, it was challenging and easy at the same time. I had to choose an idea and stick with it. My idea was cars are becoming more and more advanced by the minute. 

I chose cars because my dad taught me all about them. My dad loves cars. His favorite type of car is a lotus. It is a British type of car. I had four categories, one was the modern engine, the new cars, future cars, and people who make cars. Many parts were hard and some were easy, one thing that was hard was finding photos then getting the right size. An easy part was writing it all down because I already know what I was writing.

I used a lot of techniques. For example, write whatever comes to your head you do not have to go in order and don’t spend a lot of time finding photos, spend time formatting. This feature article made me happy because I did not think it was going to be so amazing. I think that this is different from a personal narrative because my dad taught me about cars. I thought that this feature article was a success. 

In conclusion, there was so much work to go into this article each page took four days to do. This article took a month. I am so proud that I did this and I am happy it came out the way it did.

Thanksgiving

Gobble, Gobble the turkey it’s thanksgiving! You’re so happy to eat cranberry sauce you hop out of bed. It’s the best day ever. I went to my family house. My family is my grandma’s sister’s daughter. They had all the food that you could imagine. The annoying thing was I had to sit at the kids table but the oldest kid at the kids table was 16 so I did not feel that bad. My family stayed at the house for an hour. It was the best thanksgiving and I can’t wait for another one.    

Happy Halloween

Boo! you get your costume on its darkout side. It’s halloween you’re so excited you get your bucket outside for the trick or treaters. You get your bucket to trick or treat you thinking “it’s going to be a great night”. In this reflection you will see what I did over halloween in school and at home. And if you want to know what my costume is read till the end.  

This is what I did In school. In school there was a halloween party. There was a gym and cafeteria. The gym was where we played fun sports like gaga, football, soccer and basketball.the sports were fun my favorite was soccer but it was hard to play in my costume. I appreciate the decorations and Gaga was fun but the problem was the pit didn’t really close. Now to talk about the dancing in the cafeteria there were DJ’s. There was a part that was food and water and then there was another part of the room that was a bunch of candy. In my head I was thinking”  this is an unhealthy amount of candy for one person to have”. and I played like the most popular song. and then for the Halloween parade the Halloween parade was fun but it was 2 minutes and then we took 15 minutes to say hi to our family and take a lot of pictures I think the Halloween parade is pretty unnecessary because you could just see other people in the halls but it is kind of nice to see your parents on a school day. school was an amazing time  but I bet you being at home during Halloween is even better. 

Staying at home is great but staying at home during Halloween is even better. Why I like staying home during Halloween is I get to go trick or treating with my friend  and I get to trade candy with my brother. It’s a win-win. Most people don’t really understand the meaning of Halloween. It’s to scare people. I like Halloween because sometimes I make up these creepy stories. Halloween’s also amazing because my birthday is before it. Another part I love about Halloween is I get to get decorations for my house. I like decorations because it makes more people come to your house but sometimes if you have too many decorations some people might get scared of them. At my house we don’t have that many decorations. I like having a lot of decorations but the small ones I have at my house are a small Phantom, a witch, a light up pumpkin, and a ghost. Another thing we do at my house is costumes. I need to have a cool costume or else Halloween doesn’t really matter. So without further ado my costume was a hot dog. My dogs also got a costume and they were bananas. That’s what I did at home for Halloween. 

In conclusion I had an amazing time at home for Halloween and at school. I can’t wait for another fun year of decoration, costumes and trick or treating and another fun year with my friends. 

Courageous course

Have you ever wondered what it is like when you go to a ropes course? I went to one for a field trip. In this reflection you will learn about my favorite challenges and you will understand what I learned about myself and my classmates and what I learned about teamwork. 

I enjoyed many challenges at the ropes course. My favorite was the rope bridge challenge I like is because it was the easiest  you had to be on a bridge and not touch the ground and not touch another person. Another one I liked was the lava island challenge because I was really good at it. It is where there are three islands and you could not touch the ground there was a plank and that would not touch the ground either and the plank is smaller than the space. Finally, the last one I liked was the rope swing challenge because you needed to get to this platform and without touching the ground I liked it but it was the hardest one out of the five and I got many tries.

Additionally, I learned a lot about myself, my classmates and teamwork. What I learned about myself is that I can be bossy. But I can also be bossy with really good ideas. Like on the lava island challenge, where the goal is to cross three pieces of wood and not touch the ground.  We had a big plank to use which could not touch the ground either.   I said to the group “I have an idea”. No one listened to me but my friend Reznor. He said “listen to Asher”.   Everyone listened to me,  My idea was to stand on the plank and some teammates would help hold people on the plank.  This idea helped us complete the challenge. What I learned about teamwork was to let people go before you. Because I would much rather everyone getting to the other side than just me getting to the other side.   

In conclusion, at the Bedford Ropes course, I learned that it is easier to work as a group.  It will help you in the future when you are older. This field trip was fantastic and I can’t wait for another fun field trip. 

 

 

Home Of The Brave Refletion

Oftentimes in literature authors have windows and mirrors. In the book called Home Of The Brave by Katherine Applegate, The main character’s name is Kek and he is a refugee who is from Sudan and moved to America his mom is missing and the rest of his family is dead. I had widows and mirrors and here I will share them. Windows and mirrors are something that shows you and a window is something that is new to you. 

I never had to realize the wealth and  privileges in America but Kek realizes the wealth and privileges. For example he went to school and he went to his class room and his teacher told him to sit at a desk but  he said “no man can afford such a nice desk like this”. Also when Dave was showing him the new technology on earth he learned what a lock a light switch was. He thought a washing machine was for cleaning dishes. And that is why kek does not realize the wealth and privileges. I never felt this way because I never stopped and thought I Just used the thing. 

Another window for me is learning a new language. Kek learned a new language. His first language was an African language but it did not state it in the story. One way this is a window is because at school he goes to a class where he learns how to speak english and everybody speaks a different language. Another example is that learning a new language is a window for me because he does not know what a lot of words are so when he hears a word like in french fries he needs to know what those words are to extend his vocabulary. He also is learning a new language so he might get confused with other words from his old home. 

And that is why in the story home of the brave the main character Kek realizes wealth and privileges and learns a new language. I can tell that doing these things were hard but Kek kept trying and that is why the book Home Of The Brave by Katherine Applegate is a great book.  

Identity Map Reflection

Have you ever thought about your identity? We all have our own identity. I made a map about my personality. An identity map shows who you are and you can make it in your own creative way. If you read this you will see what is on my identity map and my friends at my table’s identity map.

There are objects and things on my identity map. It shows who I am. I am proud of these items and  they are important to me.  I am a dog lover. I have two dogs. One is 15 and his name is Brisket, the other one is two and his name is Kugel. They have  been a part of my life for a very long time. I am also a car lover. My dad has a Lotus. My favorite car is a Rolls Royce. Zzzzzzz…  Lastly, I am a lover of  sleep.  Sleep makes your body healthy. Sleep also energizes you. 

I also learned a lot about my tablemates’ identities. My tablemates’ names are Sydney, Josh and Kayla. They have also made maps.  Sydney is a competitive xcel gymnast. She is a tennis player who plays every friday. Josh is Rubik’s cube solver. He solves three by three and has been doing it for a year. He is also a coder who started last summer. Kayla, is a Libra. She has brown hair and she is a softball player. She has been playing softball since kindergarten. 

In conclusion, I made an identity map and shared it with you. I learned that although I have some similarities to other children in the class, we all have unique qualities and enjoy different activities. What is on your identity map? If you made one I would love to read it.
