Passion Project (Week 4) – Prototype/Concept

This week I was working on my prototype! I will include a picture of it below. My first attempt looks pretty good on camera but if you look close it has like dirt and is just dirty from close up. I am going to be bringing in my fake hand in and show the nails. As I continued working I noticed my nail art was getting a lot better!

Passion Project (Week #3) – Plan/Collaborate

This week is the 3rd week of doing my passion project and I have had a lot of fun so far. This week we are working on plan/collaborate. I will use YouTube to find tips and tricks on how to do nails. I have found many great channels with really helpful tips and tricks. I will reach out to one of the YouTubers that I have found and ask them what I can do to improve my nail art. To get this done I will go to where I have set up my nail stuff and practice with the tips and tricks I have found and take the tips from the YouTuber that I will reach out too.

Passion Project (Week #2) – Pitch/Cast

I am going to learn how to do nail art. I wanted to do nail art because I always get my nails done and watch tons of videos about nail art and always wanted to try to do it like the videos. I will learn this by practicing a ton watching tutorials and keep trying even if I mess up. Success for me looks like detailed blog posts and effort put into them, the transformation of my nail art and showing my nail designs to everyone!

Tech Post #3 – Jewelry and Light Switch

This week I finished my jewelry piece and had to soldered my piece and had to put flux before that. Today I will put my chain on and finish my piece! While I was waiting to put my chain on I was making light switches with aluminum foil and cardboard. I had to use the scroll saw to cut my cardboard and hot glue it. I will have to make 3 light switches to play a game! As of right now (before tech) I have 2 light switches and I will start my 3rd one today!

Here is My final Jewelry piece and my all my light switches:

Tech Post #2 – Jewelry

This Week we worked on our jewelry! Monday and Tuesday we worked on the base. It was pretty challenging especially the look part and wrapping it! But on Wednesday we worked on doing our design! This part was a little easier for me because I got to do my own thing and could use the picture for reference with helped! We had to bend and curl and tighten a lot of wires during these 2 days but I did end up with a pretty good wave! We are going to use a Slaughtering iron to blend the pieces together!

Tech Post #1:Atoms (and Jewelry)

In class for like last week we have been learning about atoms! An atom consists of a central nucleus that is usually surrounded by one or more electrons. Each electron is negatively charged. The nucleus is positively charged, and contains one or more relatively heavy particles known as protons and neutrons. A proton is positively charged. We also did a experiment with a spiral wire, aluminum foil a glass and cloth and a tube. We rubbed the cloth and tube and put it near the spiral wire and it was supposed to move the foil. But it didn’t because it was humid that day. But we realized that if you rub the cloth and tube together and put it above your head it makes your hair stick up!

Today in Tech we are making wired jewelry for someone else. I am doing for my mom and I am making a wave! Today we will make the shape of what we want this wire and get to use tool to perfect it another day!

Task Definition

I have been thinking about what my question and sub questions should be, I have finally decided what they are. My main question is, “What is DNA?” and my sub questions are,  “Why is everyone’s hair and eyes different?and “How do you get your personality traits?”

The challenging part of this was making my sub-questions. I have known what I want my main question to be I couldn’t figure out questions to get closer to my question. I had to change my sub-questions a lot either because they sounded weird or didn’t have any information.

This project is really fun already and can’t wait to do more!

Maglev Train Post #3

Based on yesterday we did not make any improvements. Me and my group just tried to make more marbles go on the train. We were able to make 36 marbles go on the train.

The train had 4 strip magnets on the track on each side there were 2 on each side of the track. The train had 2 smaller strip magnets on each side of the train. I think the train were successful because the train could go by move by itself and levitate.

I learned to have grit when something does not work. Also I learned the Engineering Design Process. Also I learned how maglev trains work. Working in a group was really fun and I learned how to work better with a group.

Maglev Train Post #2

Today with my group when we first started, we took off all of the magnets because it didn’t work last time.  We tried a different way this time. We used five strip magnets, three on the track and two on the train. For the track, we placed the three strips next to each other but left about an inch space between.

The thing that failed was when the train went to the end, it leaned backwards.  The thing I learned from it was do not put magnets that would attract at the end of the track. To fix it me and my group took out the magnets that attracted and put 2 discs magnets on the end. (We made sure that they would repel)

For my groups goals we are going to make more passengers (marbles) go on the train. Guess what? Our train can levitate and move with a little push!

Maglev Train Post #1

A maglev train is a train that includes magnets. A maglev train works by magnets, the magnets repel to hover over the tracks. Today when I was making a maglev train. I used ring magnets, strip magnets and disc magnets. With my group we used disc magnets and the strip magnets for the track. The train had the ring magnets.

When I was making the first idea with my group nothing really worked that we did. For example, the repelling did not work, The magnets kept attracting. Also it was hard to find the north pole and the south pole.

My experience with my group was good. Even though the duck tape kept coming off of the magnets. The good thing though was I had a lot of fun! I really thought the plan would work.
