Feature Article Reflection

Have you ever done one of those projects where you make an article about a thing you know really well? Because I’ve done one about Greek mythology for school and here is how it I did it. My favorite part of making my feature  article was the last step because during this step my article started looking a lot cooler. One challenging part was thinking of a message for the reader because Greek mythology doesn’t have a lot of messages. I am most proud of the overall setup for my slideshow because it looks clean and professional .  Making my feature article was a long but fun process that involved making three separate sections of info and cool tricks to make it look cooler. In conclusion, my feature article was a hard and really fun project that I had a lot of fun with.If you were making a feature article, what would you make it about?

The board

We were in a huge room debating about laws speaking into microphones that made us sound like giants. You might be wondering, “Where is this?” This was the board of legislators field trip! If you thought that would be fun there is a bit more coming such as meeting the district 5 legislator Ben Boykin and being in the committee room.

The Board of Legislators trip had many fun activities and here are my top three personal favorites. The first thing we did was discuss whether schools should ban unhealthy foods from vending machines. Oh, I forgot to tell you that this was a mock meeting which means we weren’t actually discussing if it would be a law or not. My class’s main answer was no meaning that if the meeting was real, unhealthy foods would not be banned. The second was meeting district five’s legislator, Ben Boykin because he was really nice and told us a lot of cool things. Lastly number three was the committee. The committee was pretty much the same as my first favorite but smaller. Those were my top three favorite parts of the trip. In addition there was still a lot more that I learned on the trip!

People at the board told me that counties and districts can have laws that are separate from the federal government. I also learned that laws started from small ideas that could go really far. Another thing that they said is that the county executive was George Latimer who is also running for the senate which is a part of the legislative branch in Washington DC. One more thing that we were taught was that there is always an odd number of members in the committee and the board so there cannot be a tie in the voting. I honestly never knew about any of this until after the trip.

In conclusion I learned so much about the government and highly recommend it to anyone who likes politics. Have you ever gone to the board of legislators and if so, what did you learn and what were your three favorites?

Week One

I did not think that the first week of school would actually be fun but it turned out to be a 9.5/10! The surprising thing is that there is still a lot more fun stuff to come!!!

The first week of school had many memorable activities, here are some of them. One of the fun activities was the “we make a difference project”. There were also some problems though and one of them was that my sketch looked like a skibidi when it should be a self portrait. I also enjoyed the identity maps. During this project, we divided a piece of paper into sections where we drew pictures of things that make us ourselves. Another activity I liked was independent reading because I started book three of the Percy Jackson series. One of the funniest parts was when a sorceress named Circe turned him into a guinea pig through a milkshake. It was hilarious. All of that was only the start of 5th grade and there’s plenty more to come!

If you thought that was fun, then you should get ready for what’s coming up. One of them is the Halloween party where we dress up in costume and party in the multi purpose room. Fun fact: A few years ago, my mom and I helped set up for the party and there were a whole lot of fun sets, pictures and most importantly, CANDY!!! Another thing I want to do is called hot dog field day. During this event, the entire grade goes outside for pretty much the whole day, sounds fun right? One more thing that I’m super excited for is the comic unit in writing because I am super into comics and I read them all the time!

To conclude, the first week of school has been great and I’m super excited for what comes after it. Some good parts of week one were like the index card challenge! Later in the year you might like hot dog field day! Are you in 5th grade or higher? If so, what was your favorite part of the first week? If not, what are you most excited for?!

Blog Post AmRev #3

It feels very reliving to be done with my AmRev project. The part of my project that I enjoyed the most was the slideshow and the actual presenting part. I enjoyed it so much because I loved seeing my parents watch  my presentation.

The most challenging part of my project was making the script and narrative because of the organizing part which was hard.

Because this project is new, advice for the future 4th graders is  to practice a lot and don’t rush the project. Most importantly, you should enjoy too!

Passion Project Reflection

The topic for my passion project was Yu-Gi-Oh! I chose this topic for my project because I was really into it and no one knew about it and I wanted my class to learn something new.

For my final project, I chose a slideshow because i’d have control of the slides and there was too much info for an info graphic on Canva.

I enjoyed working on my project a lot because if I hadn’t done the project on Yu-Gi-Oh!, I wouldn’t have known  as much about it as I do now

If I could change my project a little, I would try to cut out a bit of unneeded  information so my class might not be as bored as they were. ( Not really bored just more excited.)

Here is my project.

Blog post #2 AmRev

I chose to do a TedTalk for my project. I did this because it’s easier to do when you have control of the slides. The downside is that my slides for the slideshow must be from 5-15 seconds long.

Writing the narrative was hard because I had to organize the research that I found in the order that the event in the research happened. Writing the script was also hard because I had to cut the narrative I made into smaller parts.I

The overall project was really fun. I got to learn a lot about a topic that i’d never studied before.  I had fun making the slideshow and finding funny pictures along the way.  I had fun doing research and organizing it too so overall, this was one of the most fun projects of the year.

Blog post #1-AmRev

My topic for the AmRev project is the stamp act. It was my first choice because it sounded interesting and I also knew a bit about it already.

The research phase of the project is really fun for me. It was fun because I learned a lot about the stamp act that I didn’t already know about it.

The two sources that I used were Ducksters and Factcite. The had all the information that I need on the stamp act. The research is pretty challenging, I have trouble finding enough research for my project.

If I could go back to the beginning of the research phase, I wouldn’t change a thing cause so far my project is doing great.

I’m feeling nervous and excited going into the next phase of the project because I want to begin making the Ted Talk but I need more research.

Colonial America Reflection

Here is how the project worked. First I had to choose which set of colonies. New England, Middle or Southern. I chose the Southern

Colonies because it was very warm there and I LOVE warm places.

The first step was researching the colonies that I chose. Once I was done with research I had to write the information on a slideshow, canva Infographic or paper poster. I did a slideshow because the Southern colonies had a lot of info to fit. I’d have to cut out a lot if it were on Canva. The hardest part for me was making the slideshow because there were a few misspellings and errors. It was also hard because I needed help with finding and posting the images. The Best part was researching. I got to learn so much.

I took my notes on an info organizer. It had different places for different types of information. I chose this organizer because it would be harder to find separate kinds of info in my social studies notebook.

Overall this was one of my favorite projects of the year. It was one of my favorites because I love to learn new things and the experience was amazing. I hope you enjoy the slideshow.

The Kindergarten Playground

It was pretty hard making my persuasive essay.

First we had to make lots of different kinds of persuasive essays.

Then we started typing up the persuasive essay we thought was our best  on a google doc and I chose my essay that the kindergarten playground should have an expansion.

Once we finished typing we put the parts of our essay onto a script template.

Finally we typed up our essay on an adobe slideshow and recorded it.

I Would like to thank Mr. Casal our tech teacher for helping everyone with our essays.

I hope you enjoy my essay.

literary essay – Ruby the copycat

It was hard making my essay because it was difficult  to learn how to write different types of claims and choosing what essay to post. First we read a lot of stories then we used the stories to write essays. In the process we learned different types of claims such as, character change, lesson learned and character traits.I decided I wanted to write a character change essay. Then I looked at all of my character change essays. In the end, I chose to publish my Ruby the Copycat essay. In this book you will see how the character Ruby changes throughout the story. I hope you enjoy my essay!

“Ruby the Copycat Character Change”

In the book Ruby the Copycat the character Ruby changes from being a copycat to being her own person.

In the beginning of the story Ruby copied Angela when Angala said she went to her sister’s wedding and she was the flower girl. She also copied Angela by wearing the same sweater with daisies on it as her. This shows that Ruby is jealous of Angela and wants to be like her.

Later in the story Ruby copies Mrs.Hart by wearing the same plastic fingernails as her teacher. She also copies Angela by reciting basically the exact same poem as Angela. The next morning Ruby copies Angela by saying she went to the opera. This all shows that Ruby wants to copy other people to make herself look good.

In the end instead of copying Angela Ruby said she hopped. In an instant everyone started laughing at her but Ruby wouldn’t back down instead she proved it by hopping around the table 10 times. When her classmates saw they all started hopping around the room. This shows Ruby finally figured out that trying to be someone else won’t give you any credit.

The character Ruby learns that copying won’t give you credit for anything. All this proves Rubies character change in the story.
