Capstone Reflection #2

Hello my class is doing capstone and we are on the faze of interviewing someone to learn some more info on your subject. My subject is World war 2 was cool listening to a expert on your subject and she provided me with some important information let me tell you more about my interview.

At first when I learned about how we have to do an interview I was thinking I was going to interview a historian or a high school teacher but when I found out the challenges of getting an interview  with a historian I looked at the high school teacher page with the help of Mrs Cooper. I found a teacher that teaches social studies called Mrs Harris. She had her phone number, email and her office location. I was so happy that I found m a person to interview and I straight away emailed her and she respawned an hour later Saying that she would be happy for me to interview. This was not that challenging because I found my interview in 3 days. Once I got the interview scheduled I started working on my questions. I added three of my sub questions and questions that related to my sub questions. I think this was kind of challenging because you had to find out some things about your sub questions before you answer it. Mrs Cooper checked my questions over and made some changes and we sent it to Mrs Harris.

We scheduled a meeting for Wednesday at 4:00pm on zoom. When it was time I got my things ready and when we got on zoom I asked permission to record the interview and she said yes the thing that did not go as expected is there were some technical issues and the zoom crashed so I had to call on my phone and record with my moms phone. The interview went longer than expected because she gave me very detailed and lengthy explanations.something new I learned from the interview was that the reason why Hitler invaded Czechoslovakia, Austria and Poland was because there were a lot of ethnic Germans living there.

I hope you learned the struggles and fun things about capstone from this blog post and have a good day.

Capstone Reflection #1

We are starting capstone and I am very excited to research world war two so Jackson and Dylan are doing world war two. Capstone is where a  5th grader gets to decide a topic that they want to research and interview someone and make a main query question: What factors contributed to the major turning points in world war two? Let me tell you more about capstone!

When I heard that we were going to do capstone I was nervous about due dates and I did not know what my topic was going to be about. I was thinking about wars like world war two, world war one, the cold war, Vietnam and the war in Ukraine. But i cut it down to two topics world war two and the cold war but i chose world war two. But my friend Jackson and Dylan was also doing world war two so i was very concerned on if our capstones were going to be the same when i heard about the main query question i new our projects were going to be much different.

My main query question was going to be what happened in world war two but you had to upgrade your question so Ms Cooper helped me with my main query question to What factors contributed to the major turning points in world war two? What factors contributed to the major turning points in world war two? It sounded great and i was so happy but there was so much to cover.

My sub questions are How did Hitler start preparing to invade poland What factors made certain countries become involved in the war? What factors caused the US to invade Japan? How did Europe try to stop hitler? What were the major battles of WWII? What roles did countries play in world war 2? They are great sub questions that i am very intrigued to read about and do my project on these questions.

I hope you research would war two too and you enjoy it.

Immigration intervew project reflection

The immigration intervew was fun but it was hard and stressful when you get behind in the project. Let me show you what i mean. It was very exicting when i herd that we were going to intervew a immigrant and i thought i could intervew my dad so when i got home i made up the questions and went to my dad and intervewed him but when i checked my chromebook and saw i did it a month early so i didn’t have to worry but a month later we had to do a naritive then a script but i was not doing it at home so the week later it was due in 4 days and i went insane trying to quickly finish my script but my script was 1:35 so i was so annoyed so i asked so many questions and talk much slower so I got the answers to the questions i asked and talked much slower but it still was short it came up to 2:40 so i needed something to help me but when Mr Casal said that we have to wait for a second then record so that was a big relieve. So i started to put my pictures I had of my dad when he was in China and stared recording which both of then was easy and i complete everying and i finished just before the dedline. Over all it was a very fun experence, but you DO NOT WANT TO BE BEHIND!

Zoo debate reflection

Have you ever written a good topic that you extremely liked? Well i just did a debate about zoos and it was so fun and also it was very scary going up to the whole entire class. I’ll tell you what I mean.

For the start I had to gather research about zoos, It was a hassle reading all of these articles, websites and documentaries from home. when gathering evidence i had to make sure to also gather evidence for the other side to. I enjoyed researching and knowing all of these cool facts and I liked working with my team.

The only thing about the zoo article that i was not crazy about was when i had to do a counter if the person did a very good job and had a lot of evidence to back up there claim it was hard to make a counter. I learned to speak loud, don’t get distracted, don’t play attention to what the attendance is saying and read your script over and over.We did a very nice job because we had the right amount of word not to short not to long and we hardly stuttered.

In summary I think me and my team did a fantastic job and i had a very fun experience.

Literary Essay Reflection Assignment

This year in fifth grade we had to do a lot of blog posts. I’m going to be talking about my literary essay experience and how much I loved writing each of my individual essays. I hope you enjoy listening to me.

I loved writing each of my essays, But if I had to choose which one I loved writing the most I am going to say it is the Panyee Football Club essay. I loved writing about their very great experience and following their story and how they built their platform on water. The hardest thing about writing Literary essays is when you don’t know how to start in your introduction, you get distracted and you get behind.

The skill I used the most effectively for my Eve Bunting essay was the quotes. They helped me Double my paragraphs in size. Another way my technique that helped me for my Panyee essay is summarizing the story, It helped a lot because it helped me use more details in the story. For my civil rights essay was my hook, That helped me get a good introduction and really hook my reader. The difference between a feature article and a  literary essay is it is groped out very differently when it is done, The similarity between them is you need to research your topic.

All of my  literary essays this year have been very exciting and fun and I can’t wait for my next literary essay!

Curling Trip

Just imagine you in a huge curling court and you play against another team you are tied 0-0 you are the first up and ready to go. You do your motion and SWOOSH goes to the stone at a high speed and watches it go in the house. Because that is what happened when we had our curling trip today.

At the curling trip first we got to pick out your teams. I chose Jackson and Elenie and Chloe joined. We each went to our spots in the court and we practiced. The instructors helped us get the hang of sliding the stones. After we practiced we were ready to play against our opponents. We were up first and I was the first person to go up on my team. I did everything the teacher told me and BAM I slid it so hard that it hit the other stones on the other side. After that I swepted for my teammates. Finally I was up again and I did the same thing with my movements but  fell and hit my hip on the ice but my stone still made it in the house.

The curling in the ice was way different then in PE. First the ground was slippery on the ice and also the stones were much heavier then the ones with wheels because we were so use to picking them up in our motion  but when i tried doing that it wouldn’t budge. We could finally slid in our motion then using the carpet mats. Also we had a stabilizer to help us glide without falling and how we can finally sweep the stones to     make it go farther.

Overall I would rate the trip a 5 out of 5. It is one of the best trips ever and i wish i can go there again and I probably will. I went there and you should too.

This is my feature article.

Thank you for reading.

I just finished my feature article and I loved the experience. I think it was the best project yet in fifth grade but it was sad researching it because I was researching about people that didn’t come back from space

`. The main reason I chose to do disasters in space was Mrs cooper wrote that as a suggestion and i made up my mind that i was going to do that instantly because i know i bit about some space missions that ended in disaster but i didn’t think it would be so sad to know what happened to the astronauts.

I am most proud of the Colombia paragraph because it was my first one that i wrote and my best one and i put a lot of effort in it plus it was pretty long. The big compareistint of writing a personal narrative and a feature article is there are a few more steps when you write an article. First you have to research your topic, then you have to put it all together and make a draft. Finally you have to put all of your writing in another document and make it look like an article. The only thing you have to do with your personal narrative is make a draft and then edit and make your final draft. The best techniques that helped me was luring the reader in with a good intro because that is the key so the character will read more if you don’t have a good intro the reader might get bored and stop reading.

This has been a very fun experience for me even though it could be challenging at times the work paid off.

The Challenge

Have you ever been to a ropes course with all these challenges and adventures?  I just did and it was amazing, but it was also my first field trip at Heathcote elementary school. It was a ropes course on a school property. We had to work as a team and help each other get to the other side for stations. Let me tell you more about it.

First the instructor told us how to do the elements and how to be safe on the course. Then we made teams, there were three groups. I was in group three. Each group did elements together. My least favorite element was a bridge made out of ropes. I felt that it was very hard and most people couldn’t even make it up the tree to get to the bridge including me. Then we climbed up in the middle of the bridge so it wouldn’t be so hard. That worked for me but people were coming from both ends of the bridge. So for people to get out of the way they had to hold on to the support rope on the side and get off the bridge. When the traffic crosses that is when you can get back on the bridge also you couldn’t touch your teammates so no one can help you.Displaying Copy of IMG_20221103_103816834.jpg My second favorite element was the one when you had three platforms and the floor was lava so you needed to use a wooden plank to get to the other platform. My group had two people stand on the plank and another person would walk across it. But the plank wasn’t long enough to reach the other platform so you had to leap to get to the other side when you got to the tip of the plank. Then when there were a lot of people on the second platform you had to toss the plank over and let people go to the third one to make room for the second platform. It got tough at the end because you had to fit your whole group on the third platform to win but if three people go into the lava you have to restart. My group restarted 1 time. It was pretty entertaining.

I had a pleasant time on the bus, I sat with my friend Jackson. My whole class was on a bus with half of Mrs. Edwards’ class. The bus ride was lively for me because the whole bus out of nowhere started singing baby shark and everyone started laughing but that’s not all. We sang a  frozen song from the movie, Wheels on the Bus. Finnis and Ferb theme song. It was the best but, in the middle of all of the singing I somehow fell asleep. That was another great time. It was lunchtime. All my friends and I were starving as we sat on a log to eat I heard a loud buzzing sound when I looked at the direction where the noise was coming from and I saw a huge bee and I ran away but then the bee was trying to get my sandwich but thank god I had the lid on to cover my sandwich but then the bee went all around bugging the whole grade but the bee was really after Anri’s candy because he had so much candy. Finally the bee went away. My favorite element was this one where there were ropes hooked on to trees and you had to start at one tree and walk on the rope. If you make it to the other tree you could either help your teammates get to the next tree or you can go to the next tree. I was the first one to go and I made it to the other tree and tried to help my teammates get to where I was. Then I kept on going to the next tree but Ishaan went ahead of me so he could be a tree. That is when you stand on a platform and when people come to you they can lean on you for support. I made it all around the ropes and checkpoints for the 1st time. It was really fun for me because you had to use teamwork to get all around.

I had an amazing time at the ropes course but the best thing about it is that we had to work together to succeed. I would highly recommend it. I hope I go there again soon.

Halloween blog post #4

HALLOWEEN 2022

Did you know that Halloween originated in The United Kingdom.   October 31 is my favorite day of the year, because it is Halloween. I love Halloween so much because you get a lot of candy and you go trick or treating with friends. I always look forward to Halloween. This year I was going to be a werewolf because I didn’t want to be the same old thing like a storm trooper. This year was going to be no ordinary Halloween…

it is going to be better than it’s ever been! I finally got to go trick or treating with just my friends. As I got ready and put on my custom, I was wondering if my friends would think that it was me and I was wondering what my friends were going to dress up as.

I was rushing to school so fast, my sister was so far behind me that I couldn’t even see her. I couldn’t wait to get to school. As soon as I walked in the building there were hundreds of balloons and fake spiders and spider webs everywhere. When I walked in my class I bumped into a 6 foot tall blow up T-rex. Little did I know that inside the costume was my friend Jackson waving. My whole entire classroom was filled with ghosts, goblins, sports players, Harry Potters and Squid game people. This was not a normal school day. We did  monster math, read about the history of Halloween, watched very old clips of Halloween movies and last but not least we watched the Nightmare Before Christmas. This just happened to be one of my favorite movies. Also we had to do the Halloween parade! We went outside and walked around the parking lot and after we marched around the whole lot and after my mom was finished taking a hundred pictures I thought to myself …I could not wait for it to end so we could go trick or treating.

After school I came home and dropped off everything, I got ready and rushed my mom to go. We hopped in the car and started to go to my friend Will’s house to go trick or treating! When we got to Will’s house and rang the doorbell I was greeted with a ghost face costume with blood on his face! After we begged your moms to let us go trick or treating, we set out with Will and his brother. First we trick or treating on his block but then we bumped into your friend. He gave us a tip to go to this house that had full size chocolate bars so we ran as fast as we could to the house and got ourselves the last bars. We went home with bags full of candy! I told you this wasn’t going to be a normal Halloween……. it was the BEST!!!!!!

This was my third time going trick or treating in Scarsdale and it is a lot different than trick or treating in the city. Here we get a lot more candy and you get to go to a hundred different houses but in the city you go to a lot fewer apartments. But either way I love going trick or treating!

first week of school blog post #1

trip next Did you know in 5th grade we are having capstone. People say 5th grade is hard and that is what I’m worried about. We are also going on a field month.

I’ve enjoyed the school  specials, I enjoyed P.E. the most, even though we had to sit on the floor for half of the time explaining the rules. We missed  P.E. on the first day of school. Which I was sad about and that I was really looking forward to.

I am looking forward to getting to know my teacher better this year. She seems nice. I am also looking forward to doing the small projects for example. I love doing the index card challenge. It was fun when we needed to make the tallest tower by stacking the index cards. It was fun because we worked together.

This is the best school year so far and one of my favorite teachers, this year it’s going to end up great!
