Did you know that the Westchester County Government has 17 legislative members? They make laws for Westchester. In this blog post you will learn about how the bills are passed in Westchester County. You will also learn about my favorite thing that I did in the building they work in.
Two things I learned about the legislative Branch of County government is how the laws are passed in Westchester and how Legislators discuss what to do about people’s wants and needs. They want to know everyone’s opinion because sometimes someone else’s opinion might be better. I learned that the opinion of people changes sometimes. Legislators debate so they know how they’re going to vote. I also learned that when discussing people, opinions will change mostly by words that can change people’s minds. We also learned that yay means yes and nay means no. This was confusing at first but after it made sense. We talked about it when we were at the committee table. The table that I was at, we all thought that schools should not ban reguler clothes because it is religious clothes that they need to put in. We talked about whether they should ban vending machines. I think that they should allow vending machines. Students will get hungry and sometimes don’t have snacks. We also learned about what county we are in and we are in district five. The population is 18,000 residents that live in scarsdale. We also learned that the population is 967,612 inhabited in Westchester County of all e seventeen County. We met Benjamin Boykin. We also had an assistant which I don’t remember her name so I will call her an assistant . She guided us to different places around the building. It was very fun exploring the building.
Two things that I enjoyed were being a chair and a legislator. I loved this because we never did this in the past. The chair is a position kind of like a judge. However, you get to start the meeting and you can hear other people’s opinions that most people don’t hear. It is very important to help people that live in Westchester County. This is why I loved being the chair because it was interesting how the job works. For example, you had a gavel, and then you can use it to start the meeting or end the meeting. A legislator is someone in the legislative branch who writes laws. I liked being a legislator because I felt like I was important in helping our community.
Now you learned about my legislative county government field trip. You know what I liked. In this blog post you learned about how the bills are passed in Westchester County. You learned about my favorite thing that I did in the building they work in. What would you like about the legislative county government? Would you hate it? Would you like it?
