First Week of School

“Beep”, “Beep”, “Beep” goes my alarm clock. “School Already?” I say both excited and annoyed. I roll out of bed dreading and anticipating the day. This year I don’t have as many friends in my class as before. Sad my summer is over, I walk to school and prepare myself for the day. It was one of my favorite school days ever.  After that first day my week became one of my favorites yet. After the week of portraits, challenges, and stacking index cards I got very excited for the year to come.

Fifth grade has been a lot of fun but out of all the things we have done in the first week, three things stand out to me. Firstly, the Index card challenge has been a lot of fun. We built a tower out of cards and saw how high it could go. We needed a lot of teamwork because if we didn’t cooperate four people would be grabbing at the tower and the whole thing would topple. Another thing I liked about it was we had to think a lot about weight distribution which also made it more challenging and fun. The next thing I liked a lot were the 20 X 9 and four fours challenges. The 20 x 9 was when we made 20 with up to six of every number 1-9 and four fours was making every number 1-50 with exactly four fours. I found these fun because they challenged me in math. I love being challenged because I have a lot of fun working with harder math and find it very rewarding. Another thing I enjoyed  about it was it was short hard work instead of being long and easy. I find long things tedious so I prefer it being shorter. The final thing I really liked was the We Make a Difference project. I loved the project because I got a good chance to improve my portraits which is something I struggle with. Another reason I enjoyed it is that drawing is relaxing and gives me a nice break from the stresses of school and dog ownership. Overall, the past week has been very enjoyable and fun and I am very excited for the next one.

The first week has been so fun that I am very excited for the next one, the one after, the one after that, and the rest of the year. The first thing I am excited for is the trip to the ropes course this year. This is because I like climbing courses as a form of exercise and they are one of my favorite activities. Plus, climbing with my friends and classmates would be an amazing bonding activity and build my relationships with them. The next thing I am very excited for is capstone. One reason is I love research projects. I found last year’s American revolution very fun. Another reason that I love learning new things and capstone lets me learn a lot. Overall I am very excited for the rest of the year. Finally, I am excited for Moving Up. I am so excited for middle school for two reasons. Firstly, I am excited to have specific teachers for different classes who specialize in their fields. Plus, if I get a teacher I don’t like, I don’t have them all day. Secondly, the schoolwork gets more challenging in sixth grade and I get more challenges which I enjoy.

In conclusion, we’ve done a lot. Between portraits, math and falling index cards. The first week has been a lot of fun. The forecast this year is for ropes courses, capstone, and moving up. A good rest of the year in my opinion. Have you ever tried to make a three foot tall tower of index cards? Table two has, try it yourself and see how high you can get.

Happy School Year!
