Here’s a definition (Cambridge Dictionary) for a word that is being seen and used a lot recently. Pretty much limited to mathematicians and computer scientists at one point, then adopted more generally by the design field, “iteration” and its other forms “iterative” (adjective) and iterate (verb) are becoming heard more and more beyond technical fields.

- the repetition and iteration that goes on in designing something
- The software is on its fifth iteration.
That sense of repeating something in an effort to make it better applies to lots of things in our lives, and is relevant to this week’s thinking about wellness. Think of a doing a sport, or dance, or learning a language… For most of us, it takes a long time before it even looks like butterfly (swimming) or ballet or sounds like French. And, truth be told, it never stops, we can always find some way to get even better, learn more. Actually, after a time, that becomes the fun of it.
For me, today, it was working in the garden, which is always “iterative.” I am always tinkering in the garden, moving things around, working towards something better…
