Answering my Main Inquiry Question and Working on my Final Project

The final part of capstone is here the essay and how I wrote it, the script, how I came up with my slides  and then CapCon and how I presented it. In this post I will be talking about how I finished all three of them one

First for my essay I needed to answer my main inquiry question. I found the answer was Healthcare, entertainment, and education/healthcare. I found this out by searching reliable sites and after that I started on my essay working little by little and looking back into the sources to see if there was any info I missed. To see the final project check out my blog Capstone Essay

At first when I chose my script I went with an ignite script because it is a fixed time and automatic slide turning but when I started rehearsing there was a problem because I kept on slowing down and then speeding up so mrs.edwards asked me if I wanted to change to a ted talk so agreed. To see how I did you can check out my Script

The hardest part was presenting. The actual part was speaking clearly and not stammering and things like that. When I started practicing presenting I kept on stammering and I had to use a script because I didn’t have it memorized. We also had to make a slideshow which was easy enough. For the most part I liked making the slideshow because It allowed me to look for images that I usually don’t see.

Thank you for reading this because this will be my last blog as a fifth grader so let me ask you a question: if you could do a capstone what would you do it on?

Please check out my video

Capstone Interview

Video games. What comes to mind? Playing yourself, using glitches to get something or watching others? There is one thing that almost no one thinks about what caused video games to grow: Video game trends have driven the evolution of video games. We needed someone to interview so I kept on looking. I did a little digging and came up with my main inquiry question “What video game trends are having the greatest impact on the industry?”

The first step was getting someone to interview. I thought of Brian Winn, T.L Taylor and Danny Bilson. I waited for them to respond after weeks and weeks of waiting. They didn’t respond yet so we found more people to ask. Mr.Casl helped and he got his friend at Meta to interview. We had to make a letter by copying a paper packet right after I made my letter and sent it to the people I wanted Mrs.Edwards made a document that you could copy and paste the exact thing I had to hand write. After that I was set overall. I feel like it was pretty easy.

First step check on to the second step conducting the interview. The interview was set on friday May 5 I was trying to create my interview questions the week before the interview started I kept on trying to think of not only getting information out of him but also being nice so he will give us more info so instead of asking Question one, two, and three so on and so forth you wanted to keep him talking. When the interview actually started I was nervous one of my friends was interviewing the same person. We both went into the makerspace room and conducted the interview. My friend went first and I wrote down some of her info because she had some overlapping questions with me. The interview was nerve wracking but I did it to get over it because he was nice. It was over quickly. When I got back we were done with our special.

I’ve shown what I have done for my interview. It was daunting because of all the preparations we did. In the end it was fine and I suggest you do it too.

Capstone Topic and Main Question

School projects, hard, annoying, and time consuming all of these things fit the topic of Capstone. We had to go through the pain Capstone is basically making a ted talk, ignite, or a presentation we had a long process that took weeks to do.

Now let’s talk about the first step in choosing a topic. I chose my topic by being an organizer. The organizer was a document that helped us think of our topic. I narrowed it down to three topics Video games, Fantasy books, and how electricity works. Then I thought about what I am really interested in. I thought about video games and books and then I thought, what do I want to learn more about? Then I thought about video games. That’s what I thought I was going to do.

Now the second step was trying to create are our main inquiry questions my first step to create my main inquiry question was to narrow down my topic so I narrowed it down to video game trends then I asked myself what do I want to know about a video game trends then I thought “What video game trends are having the greatest impact on the industry?” that was my main inquiry question.

The third step was that the sub questions were hard because we had to find questions that were linked to the main inquiry question but didn’t answer the question too quickly. I chose questions that answered part of the main inquiry. My first was “What is the smallest trend that affected video games?”  my next was “How have video game trends influenced other video games?” My third was “How have big events like the invention of Nintendo affected trends and video games?” my 4th was “How have video games changed when the trends changed?” My fifth question was “How many things change in video games when trends change?” and that’s all my  questions

That is all of the steps I did for task definition. Now that I have introduced my capstone project, start thinking ahead. If you could do capstone what would you do it on?

The Immigration Project

This blog post will show how I made a video of the immigration story on Zheng Wang, the interview and finally the questions. Like how she got to America and what it was like for her. Another thing you will see is how I interviewed her. This is how I felt about the immigration video and what I found interesting.

I prepared the interview by thinking about the questions. For example I couldn’t ask if you were an immigrant or not because 1 we already know the answer 2 they would only say yes or no which is not a lot of information. So I had to think about questions that would give lots of info. For example, I couldn’t ask something like do you like america. It has to be something like what kind of travel did you use? So I talked to my mom about the interview and she said yes to the interview. We were gonna talk about it in person with a video recording. She said all kinds of interesting things. The most interesting thing was that she only drank water and ate bread to save money for her parents. That bring us to the video

The challenge part was the video I had a very hard time with script because I had to time each one of the slides and then I had to add photos to the slides accordingly then we had to make sure that it was six second or lower but above four seconds I kept on trying to squeeze lots of information in each slide which didn’t work then I tried spreading them out alot witch didn’t work again. In the end I was able to do it then the video for the ones I didn’t have photos for I had to look for stock photos that worked the voice over was the harder part because I kept on stumbling on my words and my sister kept on shouting in the background but in the end I got it somehow.

In the end it was a fun experience as a school project I liked it but it had major downsides to I would recommend it if you had a lot of extra time because it is time consuming I thank my mom and my brother for helping me even though my brother didn’t help a lot that is the end of my blog post.

Zoo Debate Refltion

Have you ever wanted to have a debate with people? I have wanted to since when I was five I saw my brother starting to debate. We did zoo debates on if zoos should be allowed or not. This is my debate experience.

The argument I was assigned was the side of keeping zoos even though I didn’t want to be on that side. Ishan was my partner, Steve and Troy were on the opposing side. It was hard looking for evidence when you didn’t like the side you were assigned. I didn’t like the idea of animals in cages because they are alive too. But I found evidence my reason was it helped animals stay alive and keep species from going extinct. Every year about 200-2000 species go extinct without zoos; we would be making it worse. We also did scientific research while Troy did heart disease and Steve did how animals in zoos get mental issues. That is it for the first argument about zoos.

The second debate went more smoothly than the first because it was on the side I believed in which made me say it more naturally and with more meaning. I was with Ishan again. We thought of how most zoos are profit only zoos. Ishan did how they suffer mentally and physically while Troy and Steve did how zoos are needed for research and preventing extinction. This time we were recorded by Ms Edwards and that’s how it went for our second debate.

In conclusion it was fun and it was a good experience I had with doing debate, but let me ask you something: do you want to debate if you could because I would. I hope you do it because it was a good experience I had.

Things I Love – Dylan

In school we learned about a program called Adobe Express. It was a program where we can make movies, Ms Edwards made us do a movie called Things I Love. I’m writing this blog post to share my experience making my movie. It had its pros and cons but it was a very good experience nonetheless I hope you try out Adobe Express.

The features of Adobe had its pros and cons. Before we used Adobe Express we used Wevideo which was more detailed but harder to understand than Adobe Express for example Adobe was simple with not a lot of details. Wevideo was more complicated and precise. For example adobe makes it so you have to delete all of your recording at once Wevideo allows you to cut your recording into parts making it so that you can replace the bad parts and keep the good part personally I like this feature because it allows me to cut off a bad part like if I sneeze or cough. One of the cons of adobe is that their icons are really basic. When I searched up snowboards it showed something that looks like a bandage while Wevideo’s icons were more detailed.

The actual movie creation was much harder because even though Mr Casal showed us a lot of the features there was still a lot to learn. When i started I got of to a rough start because I didn’t know exactly what to do at first I thought maybe school but then I thought no then it came to me books I liked books a lot so after that it got going fast my mind started racing, tennis, my family, video games, myths and finally mathematics all of those I made into slides look at the video below for more information about the video I liked the video games the most though.

I had a good experience with Adobe I would recommend it a lot for people who want to make a cool movie about anything really What do you love and would you do this if you could? Would you at least try it out?Hopefully you would.

Benfored Challenge Course

Why do bus rides take so long because if you know please tell me. It was so destructive that I decided to make that the first body paragraph but you know I have to include the actual rope course and how that went. Personally I think that it was not that great let us see if you feel differently about it.

The bus trip was so long. It was like half an hour before we got there. Everyone was bored so they started fooling around. They started singing songs like 100 bottles of beer on the wall. Miss Boyer told the people who were singing to change beer to something like root beer or to stop singing. They kept on singing and changed it to… milk then they changed it to root beer. Since I was in the back I could wave to the people passing by. Then the bus passed by The Cheesecake Factory. Miss Boyer was lecturing the people that were singing because they were just shouting and not singing. Then Logan shouted “can we get some fries?” Miss Boyer lectured Logan after. After that nothing exciting happened. Drew fell asleep during the bus ride. We all pretended that it was over and we were going back. Then we went to the course and some people said “were going back?” to confuse Drew. Drew actually believed us until the tour.

The ropes course was not somewhere I liked. It was fun but it was boring at the same time. I tried to have fun but one of the stations I didn’t even get to go on. It might have been my favorite course but I could not get on it. My favorite was the bridge where you climb up and try to avoid touching the other team or else you would be sent back to the line. I got to the other side three times. After I did that we had lunch. Not that exciting let us fast forward to the floor is lava and you have a plank but the plank is not long enough.

After the bus drive was over I was tired and now I have questions for you. Have you gone on a field trip yet? Have you gone to the Fox Lane rope course? Did you like my blog post? I hope you have a great day.

Halloween

Have you ever seen monsters roaming the streets at night from witches to aliens? This is normal once a year. Maybe even you were one of the monsters on that day. The day that I’m talking about is Halloween. This blog is how I spent my Halloween in school and out of school.

At school Halloween was fun.The Halloween party was amazing. There were candy drinks and even games. We started out with the gaga match. I was in an inflatable alien costume so it was hard to stay in but I managed to stay in the game. Then we did a girl VS boys gaga match. The boys won! So I was pretty happy at the time. Then we did the hula hoop contest. I couldn’t participate because they had the limited number of people. For the contest, Ishan and Troy got in through.Ishan’s team won. Ishan and Troy are my best friends. Then we did the mummy contest. Someone would be wrapped in toilet paper. I didn’t get in through. The prizes were hats. Then we danced all over the lunch room. Feel bad for the custodians. They had to clean the entire Gym and the lunch room. The grand prize was a glowing flower necklace Sara got but so many people wanted it that it got ripped into pieces Anri got most of the flower necklace remains. Some of the flowers that got ripped actually still had flashing lights on. Which is amazing because the wires got ripped out. Now that I look back at it it is pretty funny that the grand prize got completely destroyed.

At home Halloween was really fun. The best part of trick or treating was that we got lots and lots of candy that almost filled a Trader Joe’s paper bag. We are going to donate it to the school all except for nine pieces of candy all together. And our brother did not even help trick-or-treating and he still got three pieces of candy out of the 1768 pieces me and my little sister did all the trick-o- treating. I am pretty mad . Most of the candy that we got was Starburst and Twix. The least amount of candy type was peppermint. We got one peppermint and that was all peppermint that we got on Halloween night. We got it when I was trick or treating with Max, Ishan, Troy and Alisha. That is only some of the fun that I had during Hallween night. I can’t tell all the fun I had trick or treating or else it would have been really really long

I hope you liked my blog post and have a happy Halloween. I hope you gots lots of candy. Remember not to eat too much candy or you will get a tummy ache and cavities. I have a few questions for you. What costume did you wear? How much candy did you get? Did you have a good time trick or treating? Did you like my blog post? I hope all your answers to those questions were yes. I hope you had a great Halloween.

Identity Bag Reflection

Quickly I need to pack this and that. Sorry I was packing my Identity bag. The Identity bag is a bag full with stuff about you. There were some rules like if it was valuable and delicate you would have to ask your parents if you could bring it in. But if your parent says no you can still bring in a photo of it and show the class it. Another thing is that you can’t bring in food as well as you can but not share it with other people. Enough talking let me tell you about my experience with the identity bag.

There is a lot to talk about lets start with what was in my identity bag

  • My first pair of goggles ever.
  • Some yin and yang bulls carving
  • A pin from my favorite camp  (Discover Camp)
  • My first sketch book ever

That’s all that I packed for my identity bag. There are people that might be wondering why I packed these things I packed the goggles because I like swimming. I packed the yin and yang bull carving because they syllabize luck and good fortune. I packed the pin because Discover camp was my favorite camp ever. I packed my first sketch book ever because I like drawing. That is about it for my identity bag. Let’s move onto the next thing.

You might be wondering what we do while our classmates are sharing. What we do is we open up our social studies notebook and take jots about their bag. We wrote about things that you didn’t know about them like, I did not know that Lilana had a dog so I wrote that down. There were so many things I did not know about my friends. Like Jacob had a coin collection or Arron collects rocks and plays soccer I hope I learn more about them.

That’s all I am going to tell you about my identity bag. I want you to think about this: what would you put into your identity bag and what did you learn from this? But remember be ready when your in fifth grade you will have to do this as a project to learn more about your classmates so you have a few years to think about it or maybe you already did it if you did what did you put in your bag?

First Week of School

Uuuugh can you please help get me out of school. I want to get out of school right now. It’s Friday and at 2:00 pm I only have one hour and 10 minutes till I’m free. I should probably explain what I’m talking about. today is the last day of the first week. I want to get home so I can relax and lie down. I can’t wait till this school day ends. Well but I did have some fun in the first week and there’s so many things that I want to do.

This week I had so much fun. For example, we had identity bags. Identity bags are bags or boxes that have 4-6 things that are special to you.For my first item I brought one of my first pairs of goggles ever, next I brought ying and yang bulls, and my pin for Discover camp and finally for my last item my first sketch book ever. Another thing we did was an index card tower challenge which was that we had fifteen minutes and one hundred cards plus we needed to work as a team. After we made our card tower we stopped building and we made sure it didn’t fall down.

Something that I’m looking forward to is the challenge course trip. It is a parkour course and a field trip at the same time.It has zip lines, ropes, things to climb on even low courses for people that are afraid of heights, it’s got everything.Another thing I’m looking forward to is field day. Last year I saw the fifth graders doing field day. They got ice pops! so I’m really excited. I’m pretty sure they also got other snacks too. I even saw someone get chips. They were so lucky. I want it to happen right this instant. But sadly it’s at the end of the year.

In summary there’s lots of things I can’t wait to do and also I already did lots of things that were fun. Think about all the fun that I could have in the upcoming year. So there’s going to be an awesome year ahead of you and me. So I have a question for you. What fun things did you do in the first week of school? What are you looking forward to? There are so many things I had to leave out. Hopefully I can include everything next time I write a blog post. Maybe not but that is next time. Thank you for reading my blog post. Have a great day. Good bye.
