Capstone Post#1

The capstone project is a project where you choose a topic and then learn a lot about it. I feel excited about it. I chose the topic of outer space because it was the only thing I had in mind. I wanted to do something else about nature, but I stuck with space. I really like space because it really intrigues me how it is so vast and so little is known about it. I also thought of doing natural disasters, because I am also interested in it, but for now, I chose space. The challenge was coming up with an inquiry.  I had a hard time thinking of one, but eventually settled my interest in aliens. Therefore, my inquiry question is: do aliens exist? I am still coming up with subquestions. It was easier after I created the main inquiry question. Two of my subquestions are: What do UFOs look like? And are UFOs just some random thing flying in the sky, or are they being controlled by aliens, or are there aliens inside a UFO? And, in the first place, do UFOs really exist? That is what I have come up with so far.

I contacted Jonti Horner for my interview. My teacher, Ms. Boyer, used Twitter to connect with him. He said he could interview me at 9 am, New York’s 7 pm on the previous day! It was frustrating coming up with interview questions. I was surprised that he let me interview him because he was the first person I asked. It was fun interviewing him and he gave me a lot of good information. I asked him about UFOs and Area 51 and a lot of other questions, and he gave me detailed answers! I learned so much about aliens from him! I am very happy about completing this interview and it helped me move forward in this project.

After learning all about my project and organizing my information, I felt more confident about presenting the project to my classmates. I learned a lot about aliens. I feel really good about my project. This project has been fun yet challenging, and I liked how I got to learn about my topic. I also had to use my research skills to learn more. My script is at the bottom of the page if you want to learn more about my topic. The video (if you haven’t watched it), is linked here.

Are aliens real? It is a big space mystery. The answer that many scientists believe is yes. If you want to learn more about aliens, then welcome! My name is Evan, and today you will learn all about unknown life.

So far, only microbial life has been discovered. Aliens are hypothetical, which means people only think they are real. There are only rumors that aliens exist. Although there is no proof of aliens, the universe is so big that the possibilities of aliens being real are high.

For example, if only 1 in 1 billion planets has life, hundreds of thousands of worlds will have life on them. Therefore, the chances of aliens or unknown life are high.

Scientists have started a mission to find aliens. For example,  they use radio signals to try to find them. Many scientists hope to discover aliens, while others argue that aliens might be dangerous and have much better technology than us. Hopefully, if scientists find aliens, they will be friendly and not hostile. The only evidence we have so far is that organisms on different planets exist. It is unlikely that aliens want to invade Earth because if they are trying to find a place to live, it would be much easier to go to an uninhabited planet than invade an occupied area. We cannot say if we will ever find aliens. After all, they might live millions of light-years (one light-year is about 6 trillion miles) away, but, as our technology becomes advanced, we might have an opportunity to discover something interesting in our lifetime.

For now, humans cannot explore the solar system. Humans are keeping track of robots that have gone exploring the solar system. There are a few places that can have life. Mars, the fourth planet from the sun, has the best condition for life in our solar system besides Earth. Scientists think that long ago, it contained water to support life. They have found fossils of organisms on the ground on Mars. Another place where life can exist is on one of Saturn’s moons, Titan. It used to have liquid water. The last place: Venus, might surprise you because scientists believe that microbial life has lived in the atmosphere long ago, although it is too hot now. Scientists believe that there used to be microbial life in Venus’ atmosphere when it was colder and wetter. Those are the places that we think have life.

Aliens might look like people. In many movies, aliens look like humans, and scientists agree with this theory. “We might not see aliens until we see machines made by the aliens,” says astronomer Seth Shostak. Just like humans, aliens would first send robots to explore Earth than go by themselves at first sight. The U.S. Pentagon confirmed that UFOs are real. If we are lucky, aliens might come to Earth because of the sightings of UFOs captured by Navy Jets. However, nobody knows what aliens ever looked like or if they existed, as nobody has ever seen one.

UFOs, in general, are just flying objects that people don’t know what they are. While UFOs are confirmed, there is no sign of aliens. Unfortunately, we will not know if aliens exist until they come to us or we go to them. So many people believe that Area 51 has aliens because, at the time, they were testing military U-2 fighter jets. Planes could not fly that high at the time, but the U-2 could go up to 60K feet. Since it was secret, no one knew what the plane was, so they claimed it was a UFO.

In conclusion, the universe is massive, so the likelihood of aliens being real is high.
