Have you ever done a project where you do research,make slideshows, and memorize a whole slideshow? Well I have and it wasn’t easy. My project’s subject is DNA. I picked this because I was interested to learn about DNA. The project wasn’t just a two week project it was like a month project. After all, I realized that my hard work paid off. 

 

First we had to do research on five sub questions. My sub questions were, What is DNA?What do scientists use DNA for?How do scientists use DNA?What are the most recent breakthroughs in how DNA can help in the medical field, and What DNA technologies are being used to improve healthcare? We had to write in our notebooks. I thought this was easier because we could write while looking at the website. My first sub question was easy to research about because there were a lot of sites about the topic. When I was on my second sub question I also thought it was easy because there were lots of sites. My third sub question was harder because I could not find a lot of websites. The rest of my sub questions were really easy because there was so much information.

 

After the research we had to write an essay this wasn’t that hard because you already had research. When we were writing our essay the hardest parts were the introduction and the conclusion because I didn’t really know what to write. The body paragraphs were long but it was fine. We had to time our essays and at first mine was seven minutes and the time limit was six minutes so I had to shorten it. When I was shortening it I did not know which sentences I should delete but my teacher helped me and soon it was six minutes long and I was done with my essay. You can view my essay here.

 

After our essay we had to do our script. This was the easiest thing to do except for picking photos for our slideshow. The reason the script was the easiest was because we had to copy and paste our essay into small parts. After we copied and pasted the small parts of our essay we had to find photos. This was pretty hard because there were not a lot of photos because we were in creative commons. Whenever you would find a photo you would write it in a column next to your script and then add it to your slideshow. I knew my whole script. You can view my script here.

 

I chose Ted talk because I thought it would be easier and fun. At first before we started the project I wanted to do a video because I thought it would be easier and better. But then I realized that I should do ted talk because I didn’t want my voice to be quiet because when I did my immigration video it was quiet and nobody could hear it. So I did Ted talk. I thought this would be better. First we had to make a slideshow then we had to insert photos. This was hard because we had to use creative commons and some photos did not have what I wanted so I had to search for specific things but there were still great photos that matched my slideshow. After inserting photos we had to memorize this was the hardest part in the project because sometimes I messed up but after all the memorizing. 

 

After all my hard work paid off. The project was fun and at the same time hard. After lots of hard work I was happy with my work.

Have you ever made a video about an immigrant? Well, I have and I thought making the video was really fun but of course there were some problems.

After I did my interview I started with my narrative. Since I recorded on my dad’s phone it helped me write my narrative because I listened to it while I was writing it. After I finished my narrative I started working on the script I also timed as I was doing it. My script was 5 minutes long so I tried shortening it. My final video was 3 minutes long. After I finished my script I started my video. I thought that the video was fun. But I did have some problems. For example, I sometimes had trouble trying to find a picture that would match what I was saying but after a while I had something to match what I was saying. I had to find a picture of my dad when he was small. He looked through his phone and he said he didn’t think he had any. He said his mom who was in Turkey had photos. So then I asked my mom if she had any photos of my dad when he was little and she said yes she started looking through her phone and she finally found the picture. When I went into my drive I saw it I uploaded it and I went into wevideo and tried uploading it but I forgot how to get the photo so I asked my brother if he could help and I finally got the photo. I did my voice over before my pictures so I knew how long it would be instead of looking at the script and changing tabs. When I did my voice over I went into my parents closet. I found out that it was really quiet. So I started my recording as I was finishing my recording. My sister printed something out and it was making noise, then when she came in she said “Is anyone in here” because she didn’t know I was recording. She said sorry. After many attempts of trying to record I finally got one. When I was putting in the images I realized that I was going a little bit fast. So I decided to record again. After a lot more attempts I finally got the best recording I listened  through it and I thought it was good. After all my images and recordings I did the music I picked a song called Sunny Morning.

I learned that my immigrants favorite food was pancakes. I also did not know that he went to Mississippi when he first came. I realized that conducting an interview is a little bit hard. For example, you have to come up with questions. I got stuck on my fourth question but luckily there was a paper of questions you could use. Then after you did your questions you had to do an interview and it was hard because I had to do it on a weekend because my dad goes to work and doesn’t come till night and when I did my interview I recorded which was easier so I could write my narrative. After your interview you have to do your narrative. I listened to my recording while I was writing down my narrative. When your finished with your narrative you have to do your script which was easy because all you have to do is copy and paste little pieces of your script and put them in the organizer but after you copy and pasted the parts you had to time yourself and write how much time each part would take that part was not that hard because I recorded first so I didn’t really need to worry about the timing. When you were done with everything the teachers checked your narrative I didn’t didn’t really have to make changes I only had to rewrite a sentence. When you finished with your whole script and your narrative you could start on the video. When I started my video I realized how fun it was because you just find images and insert time and get the timing correctly. But of course there were problems like how I could not find pictures that I wanted. After my images and recording I did my music which was easy because I asked my dad which song was his favorite and he picked the song he liked.

Overall the whole immigration project was really fun and sometimes hard. I enjoyed making my video and script.

 

Immigration Interview Reflection

Have you ever had a project where you had to interview an immigrant ? Our class had to pick an immigrant for this project. I enjoyed the project even though it was a little hard, it was also fun. After all, it was worth it.

The first thing we had to do for the project was pick an immigrant to interview. I would either pick my dad or my mom. Since my brother’s class started earlier than our class he picked my mom and I picked my dad. Once we picked our person to interview, we had to come up with questions to ask like Why did you come to the U.S.A,I started doing some questions but then I got stuck so I used the paper with questions on it that my teacher gave us if we did not know what to write for our questions. We had to write 15 questions after I finished my questions, my teacher had to check the questions so they made sense. After that we could do our interview. I was going to do my interview on the weekend because my dad works on the weekdays and he does not come back till night. 

I did my interview in person, I learned that my interview first immigrated to Mississippi then California and then New York. I learned how to do an interview like the questions and how to conduct an interview  and make a narrative and script and a video. I think it was hard but also fun at the same time because we never had projects that were about immigrants and also we barely had projects that were on a big topic. Sometimes it was hard, like coming up with the questions. I got stuck on a question, but there was a paper that had questions and it gave me ideas. Also, I got stuck on finding images because at first I didn’t really know what images I should use. It was fun in my opinion because there was so much to do, it wasn’t like a two day project. Also, I enjoyed the interview because I learned some new things.

After all, the immigration project was fun and hard. I really liked it because it was a really fun project and there were many steps to this project. 

 

First Week of School Reflection

For the past week I have enjoyed three things so far. The first thing is The Index Card Challenge The second thing is independent reading and finally, the identity maps. There are Four things I am looking forward to this year. The First Thing is the Bedford Ropes Trip. The Second thing is the Interpretation Book Clubs. The third thing is the Hotdog field day. And finally the Fourth Thing I am looking forward to is the Halloween Party. These are all the things that I liked so far and what I am looking forward to this year.

I enjoyed three things this past week. The first thing was The Index card challenge because we were working as a table and class and we were sharing new ideas to each other and we built as a team. Also, it was really fun building it and when we got to the top we got really excited. The second thing I liked was Independent Reading because it was really quiet and calm. Also, I like reading and we got to read books. The Third thing I really liked is The Identity Maps because I like to draw and color. Also, I liked to share what I like to do on the Identity Maps and I got to spend my time on it instead of rushing to my work and we got to work together.  

There are Four Things I am looking forward to this year. The First thing I am looking forward to is the Bedford Ropes Trip because I think it will be great because I love trips. Also, I will be spending time with my friends and classmates.The second thing I am looking forward to is the Yearbook signing/and taking photos for it. I am really excited for it. because it will be fun to go to our old teachers and ask them to sign the yearbook and I can do it with my friends. Also, for the yearbook we will be taking photos with our grade and ourselves and it would be nice to look at the yearbook photos when we grow up. The third thing I’m looking forward to is the Hotdog Field Day because I think it will be super fun. Also, I will be spending time with my friends and I think that we’re going to play games and I can’t wait. The Last thing I’m looking forward to is the Halloween Party because I love Halloween Parties and I really think I’m going to have so much fun. Also, I know there is going to be a dance floor and there are going to be a lot of games. I can’t wait!

 

I really enjoyed three things so far this year and I am looking forward to four things this year! I can’t wait!       

 

 

Happy Halloween!

Don’t you love to trick or treat? Well I had a lot of fun trick or treating on Halloween but I also had a lot of fun at school and at home 

 

In school every year we have a Halloween parade. It’s where the whole school walks in front of the school and walks around while the parents take photos and other stuff. We were the last ones to get out because it goes by grade and we are in fifth grade. Then we finally got out. I saw my dad and he took some photos of me and my friends. I saw two people that were not in our grade and I liked their costumes. The first one was Wednesday Addams and then the other one was a banana. After we walked we came to a spot where all the parents were saying that we were going to take a yearbook photo so the whole grade clustered together. I saw my dad take some photos and then we separated to classes and took photos after that we continued. The second thing we do in school is the Halloween party but its only fifth graders it was going to be at school at night I was so excited for the Halloween party. When it was finally time to go to the Halloween Party it was pretty dark I was also going to the Halloween party with my twin brother because he’s in fifth grade to in the car my mom said that my best friend Mary will go with us and I was happy when we came we got out of the car and I was excited when we came in our other best friends came and we hanged out at the gym where all the games were being held like the gaga pit, the basketball that gives you points when you make it in and there were so much more, me and my friends went to the dance room and singed and danced then we went to the gym and I played some games with my twin brother after that the parents made everyone go to the dance room and we all danced there were two leaders one was a girl and one was a boy so we had a competition against boys and girls the first round the girls won and then the girls also won rest of the rounds I was happy we were winning our final round of the competition was that one girl and one boy would do a competition and of course we the girls won. There were three costumes I liked the first one was my best friends mary she was junior jewels from a Taylor Swift song and I liked it because it was really creative and it was from Taylor Swift the second costume I really liked was my twin brother Eymen’s he was a pirate and I really liked it because it looked cool on him and he is my twin brother. The last costume I liked was Andrews which was a chicken holding a KFC bucket and a blowup chicken and he was wearing a blowup chicken. Then after I went to the gym everyone was jumping on the gaga pit it was fun then I played basketball with my twin brother and the rest of the time we were in the dance floor while we were dancing we got ring lights, glow sticks, small boomwhackers that light up, some hats, and sunglasses and other stuff I got to bring them home. I really liked the Halloween Party because it was extremely fun and I will never forget that Halloween Party and how fun everything was. The dance floors, gym games,snacks and other stuff I had so much fun! 

 

Outside of school we trick or treat. This year I decided not to go with my friends and I went with my siblings because we wanted to be all together and my twin brother said it would be faster. I agreed and trick or treated with them. When it was time to trick or treat I went to our neighbor and she gave us a ton of candy. After our whole neighborhood my parents said to go to Fayette Road because it gives a lot of candy me and my parents know that because last year we got the most candy from there when we came to the road we got lots of candy. There was a house and the girl that gave us candy and she knew my mom because she was her friend she told us that if we came later she would give us the whole bowl of candy. We trick or treated like 5 more neighborhood’s and then we came back to the girl that said that she would give us the bowl of candy. She did not give us the whole bowl though I guess she forgot about it. I also met some of my friends when I was trick or treating I met Mary,Caroline,Lavina,Yana they said to join them but I already went there so I did not go. Then when I was trick or treating another road I met Alya but then my mom said come on so I went. When I came home it was dark. The first thing I did was count my candy I got 120 pieces but I had another full bag and I did not count so I technically have more than 100 pieces. I probably got  a lot. When I was putting my candy back in my bag, the doorbell ringed. I knew it was a trick or treater so I had to grab some of my candy and give it to them. After a while there was 2 more groups of trick or treaters and I also gave them my candy. My favorite candy is KitKats since I was little and its still my favorite candy. I like it because I like the chocolate and the wafers inside it. Well, I really enjoyed my Halloween!! How about you?    

Learning from our differences

Yes because I got to learn about our differences.

What did you like about it?

I liked learning about some peoples life and their differences.

What did you learn from the program?

I learned some differences some people had and just because they are different does not mean they should get treated differently.

Why is this topic important?

The topic is important to learn about because you need to understand that just because people have cranial facial differences does not mean they should treat them differently.

Science Unit Reflection: How does motion energy change in a collision?

How does motion energy move and change?

Motion energy moves and changes depending on how high it is  if it is on a high ramp it will go faster but if it is in a low ramp it will go slower.

How does speed effect motion energy?

Speed effects motion energy the faster an object is the more motion energy it will have. The more slower the motion energy the more the less motion energy.

What causes moving objects to slow down?

If the surface is smooth the faster it will go if the surface is rough and bumpy it will go slower.

How can we protect our brains in a collision?

We can protect our brains in a collision by helmets.  A helmet protects your head in a collision. If you fall down your helmet will protect your brain.

Did you like working in a group?

I did not like working in groups because my group was always fighting and I like working by myself.

What worked well for u?

I shared my ideas that could work to my group and we always tried them.

What did not work well for you?

My group was always fighting and it kept going on until I told them to stop.

Did you like using the materials?

Yes they were very helpful whenever I got an idea the materials would help me.

What would you change?

I would add some tissues at the last unit tissues helped a lot I would add some foil to put outside the cups.

Which lesson was your favorite why?

My favorite lesson was the egg drop because it was really fun making the helmets and scary to see if it cracked. I also would add tissues on the outside of the big cups.

What did you learn about motion energy during this unit?

I learned that motion energy slows down with different surfaces and faster with different surfaces.

 

 

3rd Grade State Test

I was so nervous for the ELA test, because  it was my first time taking the ELA state test. Another reason why I was nervous about the state test was I had never taken a test that lasts for 2 or 3 hours.  The first day of the ELA state test I was a little bit excited . After I saw the questions, I felt more comfortable. The questions were easy for me. I thought the second day would be easy too, but it was harder than I thought I hope I get good grades!! The math was harder than the reading for me I am not really good at math. The multi choice was really easy for me but when I was at the word problems I was struggling. I hope I got good grades!!!!!!!

What people need to know about is that tigers are being endangered so we should help them. Here is why we should help them: it will help the environment and it will increase the animal. Hope you enjoy it!!

Tigers are going extinct so we should help them. Tigers play an important role in maintaining the harmony of the planet’s ecosystem. By preying on herbivores. Tigers help keep the balance between the prey animals and the forest vegetation which they feed upon. Tigers have lost an estimation of 95% of historical range. This is important because by habitat loss a lot of tigers lose their homes and they need big space to live. Some of them die because they don’t have enough space to live. Tigers are important animals but some people do threaten them. Here are some threats to tigers. Their habitat has been destroyed, degraded and fragmented by human activities. Tigers need wide space to live. Another one is climate change. There is much more.

Tigers will be endangered but if we help them it will help the environment and it will increase the animals. Here are some ways to help them. You can protect their habitat since they need big space to live. Tigers are going extinct. 3 species are already extinct there are only 6 species left. There are only 4,500 tigers left and that’s all of the species added altogether! This makes me realize that each of the species are really less. Did you know that there are only 200 white tigers left in the world and all of them are in zoos and theme parks.

 

Tigers are being extinct so we should help them. It will help the environment and it will increase the number of animals. I hope you can help the tigers because they are really important animals!!!!!!
