Capstone Blog 3

Finally, after countless months of hard work were done. What are we done with? Capstone! Capstone is a project where you choose the main inquiry question about a topic to study and present. You need five resources and an interview to help you determine your answer to your main inquiry question.

My question was “What is the impact of sports movies on young athletes in terms of their social, emotional, and academic well-being?” How I came up with this is a big story. My topic went through many changes and eventually, I decided to open it up to sports movies. When I was asked what about sports movies I went blank. Finally, I came out with a measly answer “How does this affect the movie industry.” When my answer was searched up google had different plans that suggested how they affect youth. That’s when my question was born.

The only problem was many times my research was undercover in search results. Even though sometimes I thought of quitting I was motivated to keep looking. Some of the best websites appeared on the seventh page. When finally I interviewed Chris Connelly all the research resurfaced though we had a double header (I forgot to record the first so we decided to do it again) it was twice as much research. That proved challenging when I had to transcribe it.

All my research was transformed into an essay. This was really fun because I got to explore sports movies of all sports. I had 3 parts and within each part were 3 little parts. In each little part was a movie explaining that part. The reason we made an essay was to use the essay in making our script

I started to copy and paste parts from all my docs. Though I still had to edit it by gluing together parts by adding some transition words. But if you thought that was hard the next step was 1000000000x harder. We had to memorize 3-5 minutes’ worth of words. My strategy was to read, then repeat not looking at my script which proved well.

But when I got up in front of the class that is when I thought I could not do that. Though my feelings pushed me through delivering a great presentation.

Capstone was so fun and I am so glad I got the chance to show off my topic.

Thank You, My Mom, Chris Connelly, Mr. Casel, Mrs. Robert, and Mrs. Mcshane

Know coming along to the next step in this project is the interview. I was so excited about doing this and from the beginning and now that it came to my heart was pounding all the times of waiting were over I was doing it today.

We started with finding someone to interview and I thought this would take weeks maybe months. Then relief came over realizing that my mom had worked at ABC with people who study my topic.  She gave me a name which was Chris Connelly. He rated movies and my mom said he also did some sports movies. Him watching all those movies made me think he had a pretty big knowledge of my topic. So I would say that this was pretty easy on my side.

We got on and he was so nice we did a run-through and were on our way. But after the interview, I realized that I forgot to record it. And I was so mad but then Chris wrote wondering if he was recorded because he did not see the icon and he said I will do it again. I was so happy and we describe it as sort of a doubleheader 1-1.

Overall this interview was an easy job but the whole project might say other.

Finally, the last project of the year, the Capstone project. A Capstone project is a topic you choose make a question about this topic and then get lots of interviews leading to a presentation.

I have chosen sports movies but this changed multiple times. One time I was thinking of football movies but realized the narrowest and changed to one movie, The Blind Side, that lasted a day and then I realized to open up and that was it sports movies. But not just sports movies, how they affect youth health

Well, so when I got my topic I met with Mrs. Robert. I said I chose sports movies, but then she said what about it. I thought and said back about how it impacted the movie industry. She starts typing but then sees how it impacts youth. We shared a look and pressed the suggestion button. It turned out to be an exciting show there because my question

After the question came the sub-questions.  I really just separated the things I knew they could do and made a sub-question about each one.  The only problem was some weren’t really fitting in like there wasn’t an overall impact on academics.

So far this has been good and working for me and I hope that stays true through the next steps.

Finally, after a long Rube Goldberg project, I was aroused to see the news of a new project. At that moment I got to work did my question and then got to do the interview.

During the weekend I thought of questions. I took a lot of the questions from the things I need to know and made them more friendly so that they would say more when I would ask them. Still, I needed more so I watched some former kid’s videos and thought about what questions gave them this information.

Finally 10 minutes before the interview I called her on face time. We talked and cathed up and I told her the ground rules. Be honest, and feel free to fully open up and give it as a story. She offered to help she even got some questions from her co-worker whos a 3rd-grade teacher. I kindly refused because that would take me over my limit and at five we started. To my surprise she opened up so much, telling me everything. I even found myself asking follow-up questions. I felt very satisfied with what I got and that I could make an amazing story.

However, it was my grandmother and I have known her since the day I was born I learned so much more about her than I have ever had.

Rube Goldberg Blog Post 2

Finally, after weeks of building and filming it was done, my Rube Goldberg machine. Let me take you to the beginning. I started with a sketch of my idea right after I got to work. I worked on it for two and a half hours then after all the extra materials were put away, I looked over my project with a smile all over my face.

I started to film. One try went past, then two, and three. Finally, at try 11 it worked. Yes! I yelled and danced across the room I’ve done it.

Know after a one-week break from school and a few days of not worrying about it on homework I realized it was time to start making the video.

It took me a night of grinding then finally after two hours I was done. Looking at my video I was so happy. Finally, I thought, I don’t have to bite my nails and worry about doing this. If I need to be totally honest I love it but, my only change would be there are no due dates.

Cell phone debates

I had so much fun doing debates mostly because we could argue which I was never asked to do but, I would definitely take an offer to. We started no counter but, just developing our starting evidence I remember that I would look through countless amounts of magazines to see if I could find quotes and stats. eventually after having pages full of reason, and evidence we started to build up. I remember looking down at the doc and looking at how our paragraphs were bigger which gave me a shock of relief. And then came the counter-argument and I shined I made my counter painful destroying all their evidence they’ve built up. after countless days of change and revision, I was ready to practice. we practice for over 3 days. Know finally we were ready for the presentation When it was my turn I talked loud and clear finally we finished but, in a way while walking back I’m going to miss standing up there arguing what should be the law mostly I felt like a lawyer and my defendant was my claim and I was telling the audience ho’s the jury what they should vote for. Overall I had  an amazing time and would love to do this again

Rube Goldberg Blog Post 1

So far in my Rube Goldberg journey, I had countless amounts of fun but, I also had encountered problems. Some of the mine taking up my attempts multiple attempts till I realized it others were very obvious but still taking up time for me to fix but, they both were indefinitely frustrating.

My first problem was aerodynamics on my inclined plane where the car would hit the tennis ball.  It did but enough force to make it move so the third time it happened I thought what if I added a plank to the top of my ramp. Seeing it took a few more tries to work I think that helped. Another problem was when I started thinking big but, maybe a little too large. I wanted this tube that would go down the stairs but, the only problem is that the car was the least bit accurate anything I were to put on the track it would miss eventually I thought that maybe I should stick to the sketch.

I never really had a test run but, what I did do was I would test after every new step to see if it incorporated into my design. Personally, what helped me the most was the videos I watched they gave me ideas of what I should incorporate in my Rube Goldberg and what are some ways to make things work.

Malcolm X

In this blog post I will be reflecting on my constitution project. My question was why is Malcolm X not As well known as Martin Luther King, Jr.?

Why I chose this because this is because he was not discuss often because  people thought of him as violent, but I thought he shouldn’t be left in the dust when he did so much for his cause never mind the country.

I had a lot of fun scouring for info about him, but at some parts it was was challenging like when finding websites that told me about his life not there opinions on him, but over all I had a fun time.

Looking back at my work I think i did a great job educating people on Malcolm X maybe this will help spreading awareness that you cant just leave him in history because he had a different way of dealing with this problem. If you want to learn more go watch this video.

Book Review Of Ski Spy School

Ski Spy school is a book about a normal kid Ben in rolled in a classified spy school. Ben and his friends are put on a mission to find the multi millionaire Leo Shang and what hes planning. But also there is Dane Bramage but more important Murray Hill ( Bens arch enemy ). If you you want to know if Ben and company survive this dangerous journey then read the book.

I think the author is trying to incorpet a little suspense in all parts of the story. In the story there is suspense, scariness, and most of all action

My favorite part is when they figure out what they were planning to do and they solve the problem. I think the character Ben is like me because its easy to take his mind off the mission and needs someone to remind him hes on a mission.

I loved this story so much because Was full of suspense and action with surprise around each corner. The only thing is you need to keep an eye on the story.

I recommend this book boys and girls 3rd grade and up that enjoy suspense cliffhanger and action. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I do.

Welcome to 5th Grade!

5th grade has started! I can’t believe I’m a 5th grader last thing I remember is looking to the 5th grader in kindergarten.  Imagining what it would be like to be 5th graders.  Know that I am a 5th grader I can’t wait to do all those fun things my older brother bragged about. One thing I’m especially excited about is capstone because I always wanted to interview somebody on a topic of my choice. I looked forward to that so much that I even know what I’m doing. But you’ll have to wait to find out. Before I stop I just to mention something the stood up to me int past 18 months. And that thing is the thought of us missing a regular school year. For example we are a wearing masks, we missed a year of blogs, we eating outside!!!! Isn’t that crazy? But all in all I think this will be a year to remember.
