My Class Trip

Have you ever wondered who comes up with a law for Westchester county? Well if you guessed the Legislative Branch, you’re right! I went to the Westchester County Board of Legislators  and learned a lot about the role of a Legislator. In my blog post, I will tell you what I learned and what I enjoyed the most. 

Two things I legislator and how bills become laws. The roles in the legislature  are two Clerks, a Chairman and a Public speaker. The clerks take attendance  and tally down votes. The chairman calls on people that want to speak And a Public speaker is a person from the public that shares their opinion with the group of legislators.  I learned that a law starts off as an idea and then the legislators  discuss it. After they debate on it, they vote on it. If the vote goes well it  goes off to the chamber and if the chamber agrees on it, it will become a county law.

Two things I enjoyed most about taking on the role of a legislator was being a clerk, and debating on school uniforms in the conference room.  As a Clerk, I got to take attendance and tallied votes. I also got to share my  opinions which I enjoyed. We later went into the chamber room  which I found interesting. We also got to speak into a microphone and sit in the actual chairs the Legislators sit in. I enjoyed debating in the conference room because I got to listen to other people share their opinions

 

Now that you know what I learned about taking the role of a legislator and what I enjoyed about being a legislator. Maybe you’d enjoy the trip to a Board of Legislators.If you ever had an opportunity to become a legislator, would you take it? Would you enjoy it ?

First week of 5th Grade

Have you ever heard about Joey Chestnut, the hot dog champion who ate 83 hot dogs?  On my fifth grade hot dog field day, we will have hot dogs for lunch and play fun field games! In my blog post, you will be learning what I have enjoyed this past week and what I’m looking forward to this year.

Two things I enjoyed the first week of school are, the four fours challenge and each kindness book. I enjoyed the fours fours challenge. We had to use exactly four fours and use any operations to get numbers 1-50. You can also use any operation you want. At the start I struggled, but then I learned that I could find any number 1-50 and that helped me get more answers.  The other thing I enjoyed in the first week was ,” Each Kindness. The reason I enjoyed it was because it had a great life lesson, which  was, always be nice to people around you and sometimes in life you won’t get a second chance.For example… Chloe in the book was  mean to the new kid Maya and when she didn’t come back to school Chloe wanted a second chance but she did not get it so that shows that, take every opportunity to  you get be nice to people.

This year I’m looking foward to Capstone and hot dog  Field day. I’m looking forward to  Hot dog Field day because it is when classes compete in different field games like kickball, capture the flag and tug of war and you get hot dogs for lunch. For example, I love being outside and playing sports and I’m  also excited to compete with the other classes. I’m also looking forward to Capstone.  You can choose any topic you want to study  and share  it  through a presentation. I’m also looking forward to it because it is the last big project of the year!

My Expert Book: Baseball

I came up with this idea because I truly love baseball and just wanted to give some information to the curious people about baseball. The process of my book was not that hard. First I thought about something I truly love  then I thought about baseball and wanted people to learn about baseball. Then I tried to think of every single possible thing I know about baseball and just wrote it on paper and in a week when I finished that I started typing it up on a computer and then in about a month of  a lot  of work. I finished and that day I had a copy of my own story and then I knew I was done. When I started my book I got a little stressed and that got me a bit nervous but it did not stop me from making my Expert book about Baseball. I also struggled a bit coming up with a topic and it took me three days to think of one and then baseball came to my mind and I knew I had to write about it. Only a few parts I needed help with.had a lot of favorite parts of my book. But my favorite part was specifically how to play because it gave the readers a chance to get to know baseball like a chapter saying the rules. During this process I learned that I needed to be so specific with my readers to get them an Idea of what baseball is.
