Tech Post #2

Last week we learned about the periodic table and how on the top right of the element there is a number and that number is how man protons are in the element. On Friday 22, it was human rights day, human rights day is were we celebrate having are human rights.  On human rights day somebody came to talk to us about it. This person created the donation company called pajama program. The pajama program donates pajamas to kids who are less fortunate then us and do not have pajamas. They also donate to kids who do not have books and give them books.

Tech post #1

So far tech has been like most classes in the first week(not the first week right now). Mr.calvert has told us about all of the tools and all of the rules the classic first week of school classroom. There are a bunch of really cool tools like the soldering iron, jig saw, and drill press. In addition to all of that we played a game called breakout edu. In. This game Mr.Calvert but the safety goggles in a box and looked it up. He then told us we had to open the box. My team had to look for clues and open the box. My team opened the box in only 29 minutes isn’t that amazing(sarcasm). The rules are:

1. Think before you act

2. Tie long hair back, no baggy clothes and dangling jewelry

3. Don’t assume you know before training

4. No talking when using machinery

5. Protect your eyes always

6.before using a machine get permission, instruction, and inspect machine

7. Use all guards when using machines

8. Power tools are dangerous

9. Soldering irons are dangerous be careful.

10. Sharp objects are dangerous be careful

11. Walk all the time never push

12. Report lol accidents burns, cuts, scratches, and splinters no matter how small

Passion projects #2

For this week we had to do the four questions my answers were,

I will learn how to make a baseball.I want to learn to make because it would be cool to be able to use my own baseball.I will learn to make by taking apart a baseball and measuring the leather. I will then make my own baseball with the measurements I have taken.Success to me will look like a baseball that is able to be thrown and hit. I am going to have to make a prototype first.

Passion Projcet #1

For my passion project #1 my idea is to try to make a baseball from scratch. I got this idea because baseball is my sport and i pretty much am going to measure the lengths and stuff of a baseball and try to make it from that. I think it will be a cool idea to build a baseball and use it.

blog post 7

Overall i thought capstone was really fun and one of the best projects i ever had and if you ever have the chance in school you should defenetly do one. This year at heatchote was one of the best years i have had.

blog post 6

When I was working on my final project it was not that hard because all I had to do was memorize it and memorizing. Memorizing is not hard for me because in fourth grade I had to memorize a toy theatre script. This is what my script looks like.

Have you ever you imagined yourself  in an alternate dimension? With Virtual Reality, otherwise known as VR, people can do almost anything. Today, I am going to talk about the many uses of VR.
VR has other uses than just gaming. The other main uses are military, sports/fitness, mental health, medical training, and education.
VR has changed fitness because it gives people an option other than going to the gym. There are games like Box VR, Knockout League and more. Going to the gym is still better but playing Virtual Reality is more fun.
Medical and dental students will be able to train while they are in VR. For example they could perform a surgery or pulling out a tooth. This is good because if they mess up it, will not harm anybody. They are also able to practice as long as they want to.
Students can be taken on virtual field trips. For example, with VR, students can take tours of the solar system and go back in time to different eras.

The subjects VR help most in are

  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • History
The military in the U.K. and the U.S. use VR in army navy and airforce. The U.K. and the U.S. have both started using virtual reality in their training as it allows them to be able to train in different situations like being attacked by other people in a war, or flying an airplane, or even throwing a bomb.
Students with special needs, such as autism, are also using VR technology. A company called Floreo has developed virtual reality scenarios that allow children to learn and practice skills such as pointing, making eye contact, and building social connections. Parents can also follow along and interact by using a linked table. This helps students with their social skills.
It has also been used to treat anxiety, phobias, and depression. Virtual reality technology can provide a safe area for patients to come into contact with things they fear, while staying in a safe environment because they can’t get hurt in VR.
VR helps the viewer’s experience because they can watch the game they want to watch on the headset. This is helpful because if you did not get a ticket to the game you want to watch you can just watch it from your headset, it is also much cheaper then buying a ticket to a game.
For my site visit I went to the Microsoft Store and there they had VR and AR headsets.
Beat Saber is another fitness game and I played it. While I was playing Beat Saber, I started to get tired. It was a really fun and I think you should give it a try.
In conclusion, VR is more than just gaming. VR is an inexpensive way to virtually travel to places that people are unable to visit. Doctors can train for surgery while using VR. Mentally ill people can use VR to calm them down. Military and educators can train soldiers and students with VR. Using VR is a great way to exercise too! I hope that many of you will use VR more often because VR has so many options!

Blog post #5 Answering my Main Inquiry Question

For capstone you have to make a essay on your research it was pretty easy because all you had to do was make it on all of your research in it. here is my essay and it is really long.

What are the Main Uses of Virtual Reality?

By Henry

What is virtual reality? According to a blog on the website “newgenapps,”Virtual reality (VR)  is a way to create a computer-generated environment that immerses the user into a virtual world.”  To use, someone needs to have a headset hooked up to a computer. How is VR used today? According to Alayna Mansell, a Digital Marketing Specialist, the five main uses of virtual reality (VR) include: military, sports/fitness, mental health, medical training, and education.

Military

The military in the U.K. and the U.S. use VR in army navy and airforce. The U.K. and the U.S. have both started using virtual reality in their training as it allows them to be able to train in different situations like being attacked by other people in a war, or flying an airplane, or even throwing a bomb.

Sports

VR is revolutionising the sports industry for both players and viewers. It is helpful for the players because it can get them in shape.

VR helps the viewer’s experience because they can watch the game they want to watch on the headset. This is helpful because if you did not get a ticket to the game you want to watch you can just watch it from your headset, it is also much cheaper then buying a ticket to a game.

VR changed fitness because you used to only go to the gym, but now you have another option you could play Virtual Reality. There are games like Box VR, Knockout League and more. Going to the gym is still better, but playing Virtual Reality Is more fun. The top sports that are benefiting from VR are

  • American Football
  • Nascar
  • Soccer
  • Basketball
  • Poker

Mental  Health

It has also been used to treat anxiety, phobias, and depression. Virtual reality technology can provide a safe area for patients to come into contact with things they fear, while staying in a safe environment because they can’t get hurt in VR.

VR has become a primary method for treating post-traumatic stress. Using VR exposure therapy, which is a therapy that helps people calm down with visualization, a person enters a re-enactment of a traumatic event. It has also been used to treat anxiety, phobias and depression.

Medical Training

Medical and dental students will be able to train when they are in VR. For example they could perform a surgery or pulling out a tooth. This is good because if they mess up, it will not harm anybody. They are also able to practice as long as they want to.

Education

Virtual reality has been helping in education for teaching and learning situations. Students are able to interact with each other within a three dimensional environment. This helps students with their social skills.

Students can also be taken on virtual field trips. For example, with VR, students can take tours of the solar system and go back in time to different eras.

Students with special needs, such as autism, are also using VR technology. Research has found VR can be a motivating platform to safely practice social skills for children. A company called Floreo has developed virtual reality scenarios that allow children to learn and practice skills such as pointing, making eye contact, and building social connections. Parents can also follow along and interact by using a linked table. This helps students with their social skills. The subjects VR help most in are

  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • History

In conclusion, VR is more than just gaming. VR is an inexpensive way to virtually travel to places that people are unable to visit. Doctors can train for surgery while using VR. Mentally ill people can use VR to calm them down. Military and educators can train soldiers and students with VR. Using VR is a great way to exercise too! I hope that many of you will use VR more often because VR has so many options!

Blog post #3 Interview

For my capstone I am interviewing  Aaron Stanton who is the Director of Virtual Reality Institute of Health and Exercise. I am interviewing him because he looks like he has good experience in the Virtual Reality field. The Virtual Reality Institute of Health and Exercise is in California. At the Virtual Reality Institute of Health and Exercise they have Virtual Reality games that help you with fitness some of the Virtual Reality games they have are Knockout league, Electronauts, Cricket Club, Gorn, and much much more. If you want to see my interview questions for Aaron Stanton look down below.

  1. What is your experience with virtual reality?
  2. Why did you decide to work in the V.R industry? How long have you been in it for?
  3. What do you like most about your job?  What do you find the most challenging about your job?
  4. What do you think about VR fitness in general?
  5. What do you think is the best VR fitness game? Why?
  6. What is your favorite fitness VR game? Why?
  7. What is your experience with VR goggles or other VR accessories? (There is a picture of a man wearing a SFSU t-shirt with a mask on this face. How does the mask help the VR experience?)
  8. Your website says you rate games based on MET.  I did a little research and found it stands for metabolic equivalent, but I’m a bit confused because the description sounds like calories burned. Please describe this in simple terms.
  9. Do people only use the games you have at the Institute or can they borrow them to use at home?
  10. Are all the VR games single player or can some be multiplayer? If it can be multiplayer do all the players have to be at the Institute or can some players be at a different location?
  11. How else is the value of the games you use at the Institute assessed? For example, do some games make a player want to play longer which means they get more of a workout?  Or, do some games help a player build on a skill like get better at boxing?
  12. What are the advantages of using VR for fitness?
  13. What are the disadvantages of using VR for fitness?
  14. How has the cost of VR fitness changed over time?
  15. How has VR has revolutionized fitness?
  16. ges of using VR for fitness?
  17. What are the disadvantages of using VR for fitness?
  18. How has the cost of VR fitness changed over time?
  19. How has VR has revolutionized fitness?

And yes this took a long time.

Capstone Blog Post #1 Choosing a topic

In my class my teacher assigned us project called Capstone. Capstone is a Ted Talk, Ignite, or Movie. I have not ye decided what I’m going to do out of those three topics. For a Capstone you have to have a topic.

My top two topics are baseball and World War 2. I choose baseball because I have loved it since I was 3. I choose World War 2 because it is a very important time in history and I would want to study it. I choose baseball over World War 2 because I am much more passionate about it.
